Interferon regulatory factor 5 (IRF-5) can induce the expressions of IFN-α,IFN-β and promote the secretion of cytokines,including IL-6,IL-12 b,IL-17,IL-23,TNF etc.IRF-5 is involved in the process of immune response,cell growth,cell differentiation,cell apoptosis,tumorigenesis and cell signal transduction.For that reason,IRF-5 plays an important role in the occurrence and progress of many diseases in humans.Further studies of IRF-5 will better elucidate the pathogenesis of related diseases and provide theoretical basis for treatment of these diseases and the corresponding therapeutic targets.

Objective: To simultaneously detect five components (phillyrin, chlorogenic acid, chlorpheniramine maleate, vitamin C and acetaminophen) in compound paracetamol vitamin C Yinqiao tablets.Methods: Using a Waters Xselect C18 column(250 mm×4.6 mm, 5 μm), the mobile phase consisted of acetonitril-0.1 mol·L-1 NaH2PO4(pH 3.0) with gradient elution at a flow rate of 1.0 ml·min-1.The detection wavelength was 230 nm and the column temperature was 35℃.Results: The linear range of vitamin C, acetaminophen, chlorogenic acid, chlorphenamine maleate and phillyrin was 0.500-200.200, 0.499-199.600, 0.501-200.100, 0.502-200.900 and 0.488-195.400 μg·ml-1(r＞0.999), respectively.The average recovery was 99.3%(RSD=1.5%), 97.8%(RSD=1.7%), 98.5%(RSD=1.1%), 97.1%(RSD=1.7%)and 99.8%(RSD=1.2%)(n=9), respectively.Conclusion: The simple and sensitive method can be applied in the quality control of compound paracetamol vitamin C Yinqiao tablets.

Objective To evaluate the relevance between transthoracic echocardiography(TTE)and cardiac catheterization in measuring diameter of patent ductus arteriosus(PDA)and assessing pulmonary artery pressure.Methods The diameter of PDA and the pulmonary artery pressure in 105 patients were observed by TTE and cardiac catheterization,respectively.Results The di-ameter of the narrowest segment of the ductus and pulmonary artery pressure measurements by TTE and cardiac catheterization showed excellent correlation(r=0.782,P<0.01;r=0.810,P<0.01,respectively).Conclusion TTE and cardiac catheterization for measuring diameter of PDA and pulmonary artery pressure show excellent correlation.TTE plays an important role in evaluating pulmonary artery pressure and selecting patients efficiency of PDA occlusion.

OBJECTIVE:To observe therapeutic efficacy of Xinyi biyan pills combined with budilaide in the treatment of aller-gic rhinitis and its effects on related inflammatory factors. METHODS:A total od 120 patients with allergic rhinitis were randomly divided into observation group and control group,with 60 cases in each group. Control group was treated with Budesonide nasal spray,spraying once each nostril(64 μg/spray),2 times a day. Observation group was additionally treated with Xinyi biyan pills 3 g,3 times a day. Treatment course lasted for 4 weeks. Clinical efficacies of 2 groups were observed and compared. The changes of total score of clinical symptoms and signs were observed before and after treatment. The contents of IgE and LTE4 were deter-mined,and the occurrence of ADR was recorded. RESULTS:Three patients of observation group and 4 patients of control group fell of the study. Total response rate of observation group was significantly higher than that of control group,with statistical signifi-cance (84.21% vs. 73.21%,P<0.05). Before treatment,there was no statistical significance in total score of clinical symptoms and signs,IgE and LTE4 levels between 2 groups (P>0.05). After 2 and 4 weeks of treatment,total score of clinical symptoms and signs,IgE and LTE4 levels in 2 groups were significantly lower than before treatment,and the observation group was signifi-cantly lower than control group,with statistical significance (P<0.05). No obvious ADR was found in 2 groups. CONCLU-SIONS:Xinyi biyan pills combined with budesonide show good therapeutic efficacy for allergic rhinitis,improve clinical symp-toms and signs significantly and reduce inflammatory factors levels with good safety.

Objective To explore the adverse effects of formaldehyde(FA)on learning and memory ability of mice and the antagonistic effect of N-acetyl-cysteine(NAC),an antioxidant.Methods Thirty-four ICR mice were randomly divided into four groups,the control(NS,n=8),treated with FA(15 mg/kg,n=9),treated with NAC(100 mg/kg,n=8),treated with FA(15 mg/kg) plus NAC(100 mg/kg,n=9),the treatment was conducted by intraperitoneal injection once a day for seven consecutive days.On the eighth day,the learning and memory ability were tested by using water labyrinth task for seven consecutive days.Results The mice in FA group behaved excited,restless and then turned to repose,moveless and clustering,but this phenomena was not seen in the other groups.There was no significant difference in the body weight of mice among groups.As for learning,latent period in the FA group [(27.15?2.66)s] was significantly longer than that in the control group [(15.83?2.82)s] and the FA+ NAC group[(14.98?2.66)s],and revealed statistical significance(P

Objective To investigate the relationship between the p27~(kip1) expression and the change of radiosensitivity of esophageal cancer cells.Methods Radio-resistant cells (EC9706R) were gradually isolated by means of repeated gamma-ray irradiation (6 000 cGy in total) upon human squamous esophageal carcinoma cells (EC9706).The radiosensitivity of these two types of cells was measured by standard colony formation assays,their cell cycle distribution analyzed by flow cytometry respectively,and the p27~(kip1) expression detected by immunocytochemistry.Results As compared with their parent cells,the isolated human squamous esophageal carcinoma cells(EC9706) showed clearly greater radio-resistance(for EC9706R,SF_2=65.71%,D_0=2.20 Gy,D_q=1.61 Gy,N=2.07,and for EC9706,SF_2=46.72％,D_0=1.61 Gy,D_q=0.99 Gy,N=1.85;SF_2,D_0,Dq and N were all higher).As to the cell cycle distribution,the population of G_1 phase cells in EC9706R cells was significantly decreased,but the proportion of S phase cells was significantly increased as compared with the parent cells.Immunocytochemistry revealed that the p27~(kip1) expression of EC9706R cells was clearly lower than that of EC9706 cells.Conclusion Cell phase change due to the decrease of p27~(kip1) expression may be one of the mechanisms of the generation of radio-resistance in esophageal cancer cells.

Objective To explore the diagnosis,treatment and pathology of malignant brain tumor in children.Methods The clinical data of 61 children with malignant brain tumor were reviewed,including their age distribution,diagnosis,operation route(according to the position of the brain tumors),chemotherapy [using bischloro-nitrosourea(BCNU),teniposide(VM-26) and temozolomide]and radiotherapy (part and whole brain irradiation,three diamensions conformal therapy,gamma knife and X-kinfe).Results Of 61 cases,which including 37 boys and 24 girls whose mean age was 11.3 years,24 cases were supratentorial tumors and 37 cases were infratentorial.Forty-five tumors received total or subtotal recession,10 cases with major recession,and 6 cases with partial recession.After operation,39 cases (63.9%) received radiotherapy,and 29 cases (47.5%) with chemotherapy.Follow-up of 49 cases were achieved,in which 22 cases died and 27 cases survived.Conclusions Surgical removal is still the chief treatment for malignant brain tumor in children.The exairesis profect should be formulated according to the specificity of each case.Radiotherapy methods should be related to post-operational images(CT or MRI).And it was different from the brain tumors in adult.It is good to prolong survival duration for some chosen cases with optimal chemotherapy.

Best vitelliform macular dystrophy ( BVMD ) is an autosomal dominant disease mostly caused by mutations in BEST1 gene. These mutations change the normal physiological functions of BEST1-encoded bestrophin-1 protein, and finally lead to a reduction of visual acuity. This review is composed of the following aspects: the structure and functions of BEST1 gene, the characteristics of the mutations, clinical features of BVMD, genotype-phenotype correlations as well as possible gene therapy. Our contribution serves for further research on BVMD and BEST1 gene.
