Journal of Interventional Radiology 2014;(6):474-476
Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of combination use of diltiazem and nitroglycerin in preventing radial artery spasm in performing coronary angiography via radial artery access. Methods During the period from Dec. 2012 to June 2013 at authors’ hospital, coronary angiography via radial artery access was carried out in a total of 200 patients. The patients were randomly divided into 2 groups: nitroglycerin group (n = 100) and combination group (n = 100). After successful placement of catheter sheath 200 μg of nitroglycerin was injected through the sheath in the patients of the nitroglycerin group, while 200 μg of nitroglycerin together with 2 mg diltiazem was injected through the sheath in the patients of the combination group. The heart rate , blood pressure and electrocardiogram were recorded with an electrocardio-pressure monitor before the injection as well as at 2, 5, 15 and 30 minutes after the injection. The occurrence of radial artery spasm and patient ’s general condition were also under observation. Results Radial artery spasm occurred in 5 patients of the combination group , while it occurred in 13 patients of the nitroglycerin group, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P < 0.05). No significant difference in heart rate and electrocardiogram existed between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion For the coronary intervention via radial artery access , combination use of diltiazem and nitroglycerin can more effectively prevent the occurrence of radial artery spasm. Besides , combination use of diltiazem and nitroglycerin has no obvious effect on the heart rate , the blood pressure and the electrocardiogram.

Background and purpose:The theory of cancer stem cell offers us a new thought about tumors, more and more kinds of cancer stem cell were isolated and indentif ied from corresponding cancer tissue. Our aim was to investigate the content of side population cells in SW480 human colorectal cancer ce11 line and to enrich cancer stem- like cells in SW480 through serum-free medium (SFM) culture. Methods:The percentage of side population cells in human colorectal cancer cell line SW480 was detected with ? ow cytometry. SW480 cell line was cultivated in serum- free medium(SFM) supplemented with growth factors and the cancer stem-like cells reforming into ? oating spheres were isolated. The isolated cancer stem-like cells were identifi ed by limited-dilution assay, differentiation assay, self- renewal assay, and alternative cultivation assay. Results:The percentage of SP cells was 1.2% in SW480,In the absence of serum, a minority (0.54%-0.62%) of cancer stem-like cells in SW480 cells survived, proliferated and formed into the suspended tumor cell spheres. SW480 cancer stem-like cells possessed proliferative, self-renewal and differentiation potential, which were responsible for the ? oating tumor clone. Serum addition into SFM resulted in the proliferation of cancer stem-like cells; after several generations and alternated cultivation in SSM and SFM, cancer stem-like cells maintained their characteristics. Conclusions:SW480 cell line contains a tiny minority of SP cells with stem cell properties. The cancer stem-like cells in SW480 line can be maintained in SFM using a floating culture method.

A rapid, sensitive, label-free and separation-free analytical method for determination of melamine ( MA) was developed based on surface enhanced Raman scattering ( SERS ) effect of gold nanoparticles. Through tri-sodium citrate reduction method, gold nanoparticles with average diameter of 30 nm were obtained. The melamine detection platform was constructed after self-assembling 4-mercapto phenylboronic acid (4-MPBA) on the surface of gold nanoparticles through Au S covalent bond. When MA existed in solution, 4-MPBA functionalized gold nanoparticles would aggregate because of strong hydrogen bond interaction between MA and 4-MPBA. Moreover, following increase of the concentration of MA, gold nanoparticles would aggregate more intensively and form more hot spots. As a result, Raman signal of 4-MPBA and MA was enhanced greatly. The characteristic Raman peaks of 4-MPBA and MA respectively located at 1076 cm-1 and 715 cm-1 . Hence, the qualitative and quantitative detection for MA were realized based on the ratio value of I715 cm-1 to I1076 cm-1 . The linear range of MA detection was 0 . 1 μmol/L-1. 5 μmol/L. The limit of detection (LOD) reached 0. 02 μmol/L in terms of three times signal to noise.

Objective To examine the impact of case management on hospitalizations of the chronically and severely mentally ill patients in Zhongshan. Methods Patients with severe and chronic mental illness, aged ≥ 15 years and living in pilot area were divided into two groups naturally since the program of case management launched, 65 cases in the group of case management and 112 patients in the group of standard management. Hospitalizations of the two groups before and after case management were compared. Results Data were analysised with MIXED procedure. Length of stay in days per admission (LOS) of both groups decreased with time in years (F=11.02, P=0.001), and the decline in LOS of case management group was greater than that of standard management group (F=9.02, P=0.003). The average admissions of case management group was more than that of standard management group (F=4.98,P=0.03). There was no significant differences in average hospitalization incidents before and after case management in both groups(case management group 5.13%vs. 5.38%, standard management group 7.14%vs. 8.92%, P>0.05). Conclusions Case management was effective in reducing hospitalizations for a group of Chinese with chronic and severe mental illness, and may contribute to the balance on mental health resources between community and hospital.

Objective To study the clinical features and antifungal therapeutic effects in nonacquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS)patients with cryptococcal meningitis. Methods One hundred and fifty-four non-AIDS patients with cryptococcal meningitis admitted to Huashan Hospital, Fudan University from 1997 to 2007 were reviewed retrospectively. Clinical characteristics, initial antifungal therapies and outcome of these patients were analyzed. Continuous variables were analyzed using t test and categorical variables were compared by X~2 test or Fisher's exact test. Kaplan-Meier survival curves of different therapies were compared with log-rank test. Results Fifty-one patients (33.12%)had one or more predisposing factors. Headache, fever, meningeal irritation, vomiting and altered mental status were common clinical symptoms and signs during the course of diseases. The positive rates of cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)smear, CSF culture and detection of CSF cryptococcal capsular polysaccharide antigen were 88.44%,78.95%and 100.00%,respectively.Twelve cases were excluded because treatment durations were less than 7 days, including 9 died,2 discharged against medical advice due to illness exacerbation and 1 lost after against medical advice discharge. The remaining 142 patients were evaluated for therapeutic effects. The effective rates in amphotericin B (AmB)group, fluconazole group and AmB plus fluconazole group were 78.3%(36/46),33.3%(8/24)and 76.0%(38/50),respectively. The therapeutic effects in AmB group and AmB plus fluconazole group were superior to fluconazole group(X~2=13.6354,12.5509;P<0.01).Eleven patients were lost during 1-year follow-up. The attributable and overall mortality in the remaining 143 patients were 19.58% and 28.67%,respectively.The 1-year survival rates in AmB group and AmB plus fluconazole group were significantly higher than that in fluconazole group. Conclusions The mortality of non-AIDS cryptococcal meningitis is still high, which is closely correlated with initial antifungal therapies. AmB alone or combined with flucytosine is related to both higher successful response and higher survival rate, while the efficacy of initial fluconazole alone or combined with flucytosine is poor.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2006;23(4):814-817
The pure titanium disks were divided into three groups and etched for 30 minutes with HNO3, hot H2SO4/H2O2 or hot H2SO4/HCl respectively. The treated disks were studied and analyzed with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The disks etched with HNO3 had a smooth surface, while those etched with hot H2SO4/H2O2 or hot H2SO4/HCl had rough surfaces, and the surface etched with hot H2SO4/HCl had larger micropores. The XPS analysis demonstrated that the main elements of the surface in three groups were titanium, oxygen and carbon. The carbon concentration was the lowest on the surface etched with hot H2SO4/H2O2 and the highest on that etched with hot H2SO4/HCl. The substances were TiO2, Ti2O3, TiO and metal Ti on the surface etched with HNO3 or hot H2SO4/H2O2. Only TiO2 was detected on the surface etched with hot H2SO4/HCl.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2004;21(6):910-912
The high SNR (Signal-to-Noise) spectra from 20 cases of gastric carcinoma and normal mucosa were obtained by confocal Raman microspectroscopy. Consistent spectral features were observed at different sites of one tissue slice for both typical tissues. Raman spectra of normal gastric mucosa shows two peaks which are assigned to amide I vibration of proteins in 1640-1670(cm(-1)) spectral region. However, in gastric carcinoma, only one peak of amino I vibrational mode of proteins can be observed. The obviously different spectral characters of the two types of tissues are in accordance to clinicopathologic diagnosis. The result shows Raman spectroscopy might be a potential method in the diagnosis of gastric carcinoma.
