1.The levels of estradiol decline in the early luteal phase predictes the outcomes of in-vitro fertilization
The Journal of Practical Medicine 2015;31(14):2300-2302
Objective To explore the role of estradiol decline in the early luteal phase (the 2nd day after oocyte retrieval) in the prediction of in-vitro fertilization outcomes. Methods A total of 236 cases under in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET)/ intracytoplasmic sperm injection-embryo transfer(ICSI-ET) cycles were included in this retrospective study of their medical records. The cases were divided into three groups according to the levels of estradiol decline on the 2nd day following OPU: group A (n = 70) with the decline rate of less than 70%, group B (n=114) with the decline rate of 70%~80%and group C (n=52) at the decline rate of more than 80%. The comparisons were done among the three groups in terms of the number of oocyte retrieval, the rate of fertilization, the rate of best oocytes and the rate of miscarriage. Results There were no significant differences statistically in the number of oocyte retrieval, the rate of fertilization, the rate of best oocytes and the rate of miscarriage (P > 0.05). But the rates of clinical pregnancy rate in groups A and B were significantly higher than that in group C (68.6% and 68.4% vs. 44.2%) (P < 0.05). Conclusion The levels of estradiol declines in the early luteal phase may be important in the prediction of IVF outcomes.

Objective To establish the biostereometric system of breast volume measurement and to estimate the precision and reliability of the designed system. Methods Biostereometric system of breast volume measurement was built upon the biostereometrics based on computer stereo vision and image processing. One laser projector was used as illuminating source, two CCD cameras were mounted for photo-taken, a series of parallel points were provided through a piece of grating. The volumes of 12 female breast models were tested by water displacement (golden standard) and biostereometric analysis. Results The maximum size of marks we photographed was within 120 mm?140 mm?80 mm. The characters of the system was rapid, non-contact and noninvasive. The validity and reliability of determination of breast volume between biostereometric system and golden standard had no significant difference, compared to water displacement (P=0.473). Conclusions Biostereometric system of breast volume measurement will be suited for the clinical application. The study offers a noninvasive, non-contact, rapid and accurate morphologic method and provides a new theory foundation for morphological analysis.

Objective: To study the effects of parathyroid hormone(PTH) on the calcification characters of cultured human dental papilla mesenchymal(DPM) cells. Methods: DPM cells were cultured up to 35 days in two groups. The control group was cultured in DMEM supplemented with 15% FCS,50 ?g/ml ascorbic acid and 10 mmol/L ?-glycerophosphate. The cells in experimental group were cultured in above mentionned medium containing 33.3 nmol/L of PTH. The medium was changed every 3 or 4 days. Osteocalcin secretion of the cells was measured by radioimmunoassay. Results: Addition of TPH in medium caused a significant increase of osteocalcin secretion from 21 to 35 days culture (P

Objective To investigate the effects of pentobarbital sodium on compound muscle action potentials (CMAPs) in rats. Methods Ten adult Sprague-Dawley rats (5 males,5 females),aged 8 weeks, weighing 240-260 g,were anesthetized with intraperitoneal 1% pentobarbital sodium 40 mg/kg.The sciatic nerve was stimulated (intensity 0.50,0.55 and 0.60 V,wave length 0.05 ms,frequency 10 Hz) starting from 8 min after administration. Each intensity was repeated three times at 1 s interval. The stimulation mentioned above was repeated every 5 min.CMAPs from the gastrocnemius muscle were recorded starting from 8 min after administration (T1) and then were recorded every 5 min for 9 times (T2-10),Results The peak value of CMAP was significantly decreased at T3-5 when the intensity was 0.50,0.55 and 0.60 V,and CMAP latency was significantly prolonged at T3-6 when the intensity was 0.50 V,and at T4,5 when the intensity was 0.55 and 0.60 V as compared with those at T1 ( P < 0.05 or 0.01 ).Conclusion Pentobarbital sodium can inhibit CMAPs in rats.

Objective:To increase the understanding of neuroleptic malignant syndrome, rhabdomyolysis and acute renal injury in advanced-aged patients with Parkinson's disease after abdominal surgery. Methods:We report a case of malignant syndrome, rhabdomyolysis and acute renal injury in an 85-year-old patient with Parkinson's disease after abdominal surgery in our department. The diagnosis and successful treatment experience were summarized, and a literature review was conducted. Results:The body temperature was as high as 40.5℃ in this patient, accompanied by stiffness, sustained involuntary shaking, increased muscle tone, serum creatine kinase at 104 615 U/L, tachycardia, low blood pressure, accelerated breathing rate, disturbance of consciousness, excessive sweating and other clinical manifestations, which met the diagnostic criteria for neuroleptic malignant syndrome. The patient had complications including concurrent rhabdomyolysis, acute renal injury and shock. The emergency was resolved after an early diagnosis and proactive treatment. Conclusions:If patients with Parkinson's disease have a high fever with rigidity or sudden aggravation within a short period of time after medication, the possibility of neuroleptic malignant syndrome should be considered and the causes should be screened.

Objective To investigate the feasibility of urethral reconstruction by using stretched electrospun silk fibroin matrices. Methods Stretched electrospun silk fibroin matrix was prepared, and the structure of the material was assessed by electron microscopy.Canine urothelial cells were isolated, expanded and seeded onto the material for 1 week to obtain a tissue-engineered graft. The tissue-engineered graft was assessed using HE staining and electron microscopy scanning.A dorsal urethral mucosa defect was created in 9 female beagle dogs.In the experimental group,tissue-engineered mucosa was used to repair urethral mucosa defects in 6 dogs.No substitute was used in the 3 dogs of the control group.Retrograde urethrography was performed at 1,2 and 6 months after grafting. The urethral grafts were analyzed grossly and histologically. Results Electron microscopy scanning revealed that the material had a 3 dimensional porous structure.Urothelial cells grew on the material and showed good biocompatibility with the stretched silk fibroin matrices.Canines implanted with tissue-engineered mucosa voided without difficulty.Retrograde urethrography revealed no signs of stricture, and histological staining showed gradual epithelial cell development and stratified epithelial layers at 1,2 and 6 months. The canines in the control group showed difficulty in voiding.Retrograde urethrography showed urethral stricture, and histological staining showed that no or only one layer of epithelial cells developed.A severe inflammatory reaction was also observed in the control group. Conclusion Stretched electrospun silk fibroin matrices have good biocompatibility with urothelial cells, and could be a potential material for urethral reconstruction.

To investigate the role of ligustrazine on relaxation of the isolated rabbit corpus cavernosum tissue in vitro, the effects of ligustrazine on the corpus cavernosum were observed by using experimental method of smooth muscle strips. Concentration-responses to phenylephine (PE) and KCl were recorded. The results showed that ligustrazine concentration-dependently depressed the contraction response of smooth muscle strips induced by PE. The maximum percentage relaxation of cavernosal strips by ligustrazine was 74.1% +/- 6.2% (compared with control: 21.9% +/- 5.6%, P < 0.01). Ligustrazine concentration-dependently reduced the amplitude of the contraction induced by cumulative doses of PE or KCl, shifted the cumulative concentration response curves of PE and KCI to the right and depressed their maximal responses. It was concluded that ligustrazine could significantly relax the cavernosal muscle contraction induced by PE in vitro. The results suggested that ligustrazine inhibited calcium ion influx.
