Objective To evaluate the levels of oxidative stress in patients undergoing long-term and repetitive exposure to hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment. Methods 16 healthy volunteers and 58 patients with sub-acute sudden hearing loss (SHL) exposed to HBO were included in the study. Oxidative stress indices (malondialdehyde, MDA, advanced oxidation protein products, AOPP; superoxide dismutase, SOD) were measured in peripheral blood samples collected at the 5th,10th, 20th and 30th HBO treatments sessions (PO2 0.18 MPa, 1 session per day and 5 sessions per week) and under normal ambient pressure respectively. Results After 5th,10th, 20th and 30th sessions of HBOT, no relevant differences in these three indices were detected compared to pre-HBO exposure, between healthy volunteers (P > 0.05). Conclusions The long-term repetitive HBO treatment for 0.18 MPa of PO2 and 30 sessions could not affect in particular the response of the oxidative stress in healthy persons and patients with sub-acute SHL. The influence on three indices of patients with abnormal situation of oxidative stress undergoing lower pressure of HBO (0.18 MPa) is under investigation.

Objective:
To investigate the incidence of adolescent depressive symptoms in primary and secondary schools in Guangzhou and the effect of gestational complications on adolescent depression, so to provide scientific basis for depression prevention among adolescent.
Methods:
Stratified cluster random sampling method was used to select 808 primary and secondary schools in 11 districts of Guangzhou. A total of 96 756 parents of adolescents aged 10-20 were surveyed for adolescents depressive symptoms and maternal gestational complications.
Results:
The parental reported rates of mild, moderate and major depressive symptoms of adolescents were 5.5%, 3.5%, and 0.5%, respectively. Univariate analysis showed that the severity of adolescent depression symptoms had statistical significance with maternal gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus, cholestasis, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, gestational anemia and viral hepatitis ( χ 2=12.42~158.91, P <0.01). Multivariate Logistic regression showed that maternal gestational diabetes mellitus ( OR =1.41, 95% CI =1.18- 1.68 ), hypothyroidism during pregnancy ( OR =1.61, 95% CI = 1.15-2.26), and hyperthyroidism during pregnancy ( OR =1.40, 95% CI =1.03-1.91), anemia during pregnancy ( OR = 1.46 , 95% CI =1.35-1.59), and viral hepatitis during pregnancy ( OR =1.67, 95% CI =1.38-2.02) were positively correlated with the severity of adolescent depression symptoms reported by parents( P <0.05).
Conclusion
Gestational diabetes mellitus, gestational hypothyroidism, gestational hyperthyroidism, gestational anemia and gestational viral hepatitis are associated with adolescent depressive symptom.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the impact of obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) on cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) in patients with cerebral infarction.
METHODSConsecutive patients with acute cerebral infarction who had cerebral microbleeds shown by susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) were enrolled to undergo polysomnography (PSG). The patients were divided into two groups, namely non-OSAHS group with apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) less than 5 and OSAHS group with greater AHI, and the clinical and radiological features of cerebral microbleeds were compared between them.
RESULTSForty-nine patients were enrolled in this study, including 27 (55.1%) with both cerebral infarction and OSAHS and 22 (44.9%) with cerebral infarction but not OSAHS. A comparison of the risk factors showed that hypertension, a smoking history, and a history of stroke were more prevalent in patients with OSAHS than in those without OSAHS (P<0.05). The incidences of subclinical stroke in OSAHS and non-OSAHS patients were 37.0% (10/27) and 9.0% (2/22) (P<0.05), respectively. Neurological imaging revealed a greater number of cerebral microbleeds in OSAHS group than in non-OSAHS group (P<0.05). In OSAHS patients, 77.8% of the microbleeds were distributed in cortical-subcortical areas, 55.6% in the basal ganglia area, and 25.9% in the infratentorial area, as compared to the percentages of 50.0%, 40.9% and 50.0% in non-OSAHS patients, respectively (P<0.05). In OSAHS patients, 40.7% also had leukoaraiosis, and 48.1% had two or more causes, as compared to the percentages of 13.6% and 18.2% in non-OSAHS patients, respectively (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSOSAHS can be a risk factor for cerebral microbleeds. Patients with both cerebral infarction and OSAHS tend to have greater and more extensive lesions of cerebral microbleeds, more complicated cause of the disease, and a grater likeliness of stroke recurrence.

Journal of Clinical Hepatology 2021;37(7):1582-1588.
ObjectiveTo investigate the association between thromboelastography (TEG) parameters and bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis and whether TEG can be used to predict the risk of spontaneous bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis, and to provide a basis for its preventive treatment. MethodsA retrospective analysis was performed for the clinical data of 174 patients with liver cirrhosis who attended Huadu People’s Hospital from May 2018 to April 2020 and did not receive invasive procedure, and according to the condition of bleeding, they were divided into non-bleeding group(n=64), gastrointestinal bleeding group(n=61), and mucocutaneous/oronasal bleeding group(n=49). The medical record system and laboratory information system were used to collect related information and laboratory test results for statistical analysis. The t-test was used for comparison of normally distributed continuous data between two groups; an analysis of variance was used for comparison between multiple groups, and the least significant difference t-test was used for further comparison between two groups. The Mann-Whitney U test was used for comparison of non-normally distributed continuous data between two groups, and the Kruskal-Wallis H test was used for comparison between multiple groups. MedCalc software was used for receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, and the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was calculated for commonly used coagulation markers and TEG parameters in predicting the risk of bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis. Cut-off value, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were determined, and the Z test was used for comparison of indices in predicting mucocutaneous/oronasal bleeding. ResultsOf all 174 patients, 110 (63.2%) experienced spontaneous bleeding, among whom 61 (55.5%) had gastrointestinal bleeding and 49 (44.5%) had mucocutaneous/oronasal bleeding. There were significant differences in maximum amplitude (MA) and K between the bleeding group and the non-bleeding group (t=2.241 and -2.605, both P<0.05). There were significant differences between the mucocutaneous/oronasal bleeding group and the non-bleeding/gastrointestinal bleeding groups in platelet count (PLT) and the TEG parameters of clot formation time, a-angle, MA, and coagulation index (CI) (F=3.947, H=12.867, F=4.007, F=8.498, F=5.420, all P<0.05). Among the TEG parameters, reaction time and Lys30 were generally within the normal range, while there was a prolonged kinetics (K) time and reductions in a-angle, MA, and CI. PLT ≤40×109/L, MA ≤357 mm, K time >4.2 minutes, a-angle ≤51.6, and CI ≤-5.9 could be used to predict spontaneous mucocutaneous/oronasal bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis (all AUC >0.7), with positive predictive values of 82.4, 88.9, 81.0, 72.7, and 73.7, respectively, and negative predictive values of 68.3, 72.5, 73.0, 69.4, and 66.7, respectively. ConclusionPLT and the TEG parameters of K time, a-angle, MA, and CI can predict spontaneous bleeding caused by abnormal coagulation in liver cirrhosis, while conventional coagulation parameters prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time cannot predict such bleeding, which provides a basis for the treatment of coagulation disorder and transfusion of blood components for patients with liver cirrhosis.
