Space Medicine & Medical Engineering 2006;0(01):-
Objective To monitor state of environment control and life support system (ECLSS), and to diagnose faults and provide decision support in manned space flight. Methods According to the principle of decision support system, neural networks and the expert system, the foundational constructional structure and work flow of the ECLSS decision support system(EDSS) were designed, fault tree analyze(FTA) method was used to sort all of the faults and to form the expert knowledge framework, expert system and neural networks were integrated to adaptive learning from experience. Results In the two-men-five-days SZ-6 manned space flight, this software system worked well, and had reduced the difficulty and intensity of ground flight control and had provided good technological support for the consummation of this flight. Conclusion For the first time, the ECLSS decision support system is designed and implemented by using database and expert system technology. It can judge parameters state and diagnose faults exactly and rapidly, and the data models are designed correctly to give the rational result of parameter prediction.

Objective To investigate the effects of chondroitinase ABC injection on motor and acetylcholinestarase (AchE) expressed inthe motor end-plate of gastrocnemius in adult rats with spinal cord injury. Methods The spinal cords in T10 of 40 male Wistar rats (10 weeksold) were exposed and the right sites were semi-transected. The left sites were considered as the control (group A), the transected sites wereas the injured group (group B) and chondroitinase ABC-treated group (group C). The rats were assessed with Basso, Beattie & Bresnahan(BBB) score for ethological test, and sacrificed 3 d, 7 d, 14 d and 28 d after operation. The AchE expressed in gastrocnemius was detectedwith zymochemistry staining. Results BBB score in group C was significant higher than that in group B 14~28 d after operation, while theAchE activity in group B and C was lower than that in group A (P<0.05), and lower in group B than in group C (P<0.05). Conclusion ChondroitinaseABC injection can enhance AchE activity and promote the locomotor recovery after spinal cord injury in adult rats.

Chinese Journal of Cancer 2017;36(11):533-536
The Szent-Gy?rgyi Prize for Progress in Cancer Research is a prestigious scientific award sponsored by the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR)—a leading cancer research charitable organization in the United States that supports innovative cancer research globally with the ultimate goal to cure cancer. The coveted Szent-Gy?rgyi Prize annually honors a scientist whose seminal discovery or body of work has resulted in, or led toward, notable contribu-tions to cancer prevention, diagnosis, or treatment; and the discovery has had a high direct impact of saving people's lives. In addition, the prize promotes public awareness of the importance of basic cancer research and encourages the sustained investment needed to accelerate the translation of these research discoveries into new cancer treat-ments. In 2016, NFCR's Szent-Gy?rgyi Prize Selection Committee was unanimous in its decision to recognize an icon in human disease genetics, Dr. Mary-Claire King, for her pioneering research that demonstrated the first evidence of genetic predisposition to breast cancer. Her proof of existence of BRCA1 gene and its location has made genetic screening for breast and ovarian cancers possible, saving lives of many people who are at high risk with inherited BRCA1 mutations.

Objective To analyse the cost-effectiveness analysis of the focal injection treatment under the guidance of contrast enhanced ultrasound(CEUS) for the severe abdominal parenchymal organs trauma. Methods One hundred and twelve patients with severe abdominal parenchymal organs trauma, including 42 hepatic injuries,52 splenic injuries and 33 renal injuries, were rolled in this study. The cost-effectiveness of this group was compared with that of surgery group. Results Treatment duration of single organ trauma under the guidance of CEUS was 20 - 30 minutes. During the first 72 hours after the focal injection, blood pressure and heart rate were improved ( P <0.05). Free intraperitoneal liquid did not increase on immediate US image of post-therapy and then it disappeared gradually. Heart rate returned to normal level after injection treatment ( P <0. 001 ). Lengths of stay in hospital was 3 - 11 (5.4 ± 2.4)days, which was not different with 3 - 9(5.1± 1.9) of surgery group( P >0.05). Treatment cost was 0.32 - 0.43 (0.36 ±0. 14) ten thousand RMB, which was obviously less than 3. 1 - 4. 2 (3.6 ± 10.8) ten thousand RMB of surgery group ( P < 0.01 ). Conclusions The efficacy of the focal injection treatment of the severe abdominal parenchymal organs trauma under the guidance of CEUS was consistent with that of the operative treatment, but its cost was less. Especially it benefited for reserving organs and less pain.

Objectives To investigate the relationship between polymorphisms in the collagen type I alpha 2 (COL1A2),osteocalcin (OC) gene and serum calciotropic hormone levels.Method One hundred twenty-two healthy children aged 8-12 years old were recruited. The Pvu Ⅱ and Rsa Ⅰ polymorphisms in the COL1A2 gene and Hind Ⅲ polymorphism in the OC gene were determined using the PCR-RFLP procedure.Calcitonin(CT) and OC levels in the serum were measured using radioimmunassays. Results The calcium and CT in serum of children carrying the homozygous genotype RR were found to be significantly higher compared to children carrying the homozygous genotype rr (P

The Szent-Györgyi Prize for Progress in Cancer Research is a prestigious scientific award established by the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) -- a leading cancer research charitable organization in the United States that is committed to supporting innovative cancer research on the global scale that aims to cure cancer. Each year, the Szent-Györgyi Prize honors an outstanding researcher whose original discoveries have expanded our understanding of cancer and resulted in notable advances in cancer prevention, diagnosis, or treatment. The prize also promotes public awareness of the importance of basic cancer research and encourages the sustained investment needed to accelerate the translation of these research discoveries into new cancer treatments. This report highlights the history and mission of the Szent-Györgyi Prize, its role in promoting discovery-oriented cancer research, and the pioneering work led by the 2014 prize winner, Dr. James Allison. Dr. Allison's work in the area of cancer immunotherapy led to the successful development of immune checkpoint therapy, and the first drug approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of metastatic melanoma.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2011;17(3):219-222
ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of methylprednisolone (MP) on the proliferation and expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in astrocytes after spinal cord injury in rats. MethodsThe spinal cords in T8~T10 in 48 male Wistar rats (10 weeks old) were exposed and the right site were semi-transected. 24 rats were administrated MP through tail vein as experiment group, and the other rats were injected equal volumes of normal saline as the control group. They were assessed with Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan (BBB) score for ethological test every 4 d, and were sacrificed, perfused 3 d, 7 d, 14 d and 28 d after operation. The spinal cords were removed and postfixed, The expression of GFAP was observed with immunohistochemical staining and gray values determination. The GFAP positive cells were also counted. ResultsThere was no significant difference in BBB score between these groups until 21 d after operation; but the MP group rats showed significantly better functional recovery than the control group 25 d after operation. The number of positive astrocytes was less in the MP group than in the control group 3 and 7 d after operation, but there was no significant difference 14 d after operation. The GFAP expression in glial scar was significantly lower in the MP group than in the control in the first 21 d after operation, but no significant difference 28 d after operation. ConclusionThe large dose methylprednisolone administration can decrease the number of active AS, attenuate the formation of glial scars, and improve the functional recovery of the hind limbs after acute spinal cord injury.
