[Objective]To investigate the effects of the seed extract of Clausena lansium,N-methyl-N-cis-styryl-cinnamamide,on the penicillin-induced epilepsy in rats.[Methods]Thirty-two Sprague-Dawely rata were randomly divided into four groups with 8 rats in each group:normal control(20 mL/L Tween 80+Normal Saline),model control(20 mL/L Tween 80+Penicillin),low dose treatment(Cinnamamide 75 mg/kg+Penicillin),hish dose treatment(Cinnamamide 150 mg/kg+Penicillin).The epilepsy rat model was established by localized intracortical injections of penicillin. The effects of pretreatments of the rats with N-methyl-N-cis-styryl-cinnamamide(intraperitoneal injection,ip)on the penicillin-induced seizure activities and the epileptiform discharges recorded by electrocorticogram(ECoG)were observed.[Results]The penicillin-induced seizure was significantly lightened in both the pretreatment groups(75 and 150 mg/kg N-methyl-N-cis-styryl-cinnamamide),compared with the model group.N-methyl-N-cis-styryl-cinnamamide(75 and 150 mg/kg)could significantly prolonged the latency of epileptiform activities, shorten the duration of epileptiform discharges and decreased the mean spike frequency in the late stage(P<0.05 or P<0.01).However,there was no significant difference in the highest value or the lowest value of the epileptiform waves between the model and cinnamamide treatment groups.[Conclusion]The seed extract of Clansena lansium,N-methyl-N-cis-styryl-cinnamamide,can significantly inhibit the seizure and epileptiform discharges caused by penicillin-localized injections in the cortex of rats, suggesting that the natural substance has an anticonvulsive function.

The Third Military Medical University promotes the scientific research ability of the eight-year clinical medicine students through accurately fixing cultivation objectives, reasonably arranging teaching, implementing supervisor group for many-to-one teaching, carrying out plentiful innovative re-search projects, establishing reading system of scientific research papers, setting up scientific research innovation courses and setting up the credit system for innovative education. Eight-year program is signifi-cantly better than the five-year program in cultivating abilities of problem-discovering,researching and thesis writing.

Rapid development in medical technology has posed new challenges to higher medical education, especially to education of eight-year program students. How to survive the challenges has thus become a question for medical institutions.By analyzing the features of medical development and the new demand of medical education,we proposed the following innovations for education in eight-year program. It should emphasize combination of different disciplines and construction of integrated medical course system.Research on translational medicine should be conducted, and cooperation between institutions should be promoted.

Objective The present study was designed to investigate whether pulsing DCs with tumor-derived extracts is an ef- fective way to induce CTL. and antitumor immunity, Methods DCs were propagated from bone marrow (BM)of C57BL/6J(H-2Kb. I- Ab)mice in vitro with GM-CSF + IL-4tumor associated antigen (TAA) extracted from actively growing Hepa 1-6 cells was used to activate DCs. The phenotypes of DCs were detected by FACS, the cytotoxicity of CTL was as- sayed by 3H-TdR labbel assay. Result and Conclusion The TAA extract pulsed DCs exhibited much more and longer cell processes and increased expression of MHC- Ⅰ, MHC-Ⅱ, CD80 (B7-1 ) 、 CD86 (B7-2 ). This experiment has shown that DCs pulsed with TAA extracts of C57B/6J cells could stimulate effectively the responsiveness of syngenic splenic T cells to induce specific CTL against C57BL/6J cells.

Objective To summarize our experience in endovascular repair of 83 cases with type B aortic dissection. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed in 83 cases of type B aortic dissections who were treated in our hospital. Results The surgical procedure was successful for all the patients. Two patients died peri-operatively.One case encountered a coma, but no post-operative paraplegia occurred. Conclusion Endovascular repair for type B aortic dissection is a micro-invasive,safe and effective technique.Long-term follow-up is required to give a comprehensive evaluation.

Objective To investigate the short-term outcome of laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) for morbid obesity complicated with type 2 diabetes. Methods Eight morbidly obese patients with type 2 diabetes underwent LAGB from October 2006 to August 2007. The weight parameters, fasting (FBG) and 2-hour blood glucose (2hBG), medication for diabetes were assessed 1,3, 6 and 9 months after surgery. Results All of the patients lost weight, with a mean body mass index decreased from (38.7±7.5) kg/m2 before LAGB to (30.5±4.3) kg/m2 9 months after LAGB. The FBG and 2hBG were decreased significantly at month 6 and 9 after LAGB, with normal FBG and 2hBG in 4 patients. At month 9 after LAGB, 3 of 5 patients with insulin treatment before LAGB were changed to oral hypoglycemics, 1 was continuously administered with a reduced dose of insulin, and 4 patients stopped any medication. Conclusion LAGB is an effective procedure in the treatment of morbid obesity complicated with type 2 diabetes with a favorable short-term outcome.
