1.Detection of receptors of Streptococcus mutants in human whole salivary components
Journal of Xi'an Jiaotong University(Medical Sciences) 2010;31(2):236-238
Objective To select the acceptor ingredients of Streptococcus mutans protein in the whole saliva through the interaction between adhesion and saliva protein of Streptococcus mutans. Methods After activation and liquid culture of Streptococcus mutans strains of international standards, we took Su-bonding from liquid culture of bacteria secretion in the process of liquid culture by using chilled ethanol extraction. Then su-bonded components underwent electrophoresis analysis, content determination and antigen detection. We collected 15 with high carries and 15 with no carries. Two hours after eating, the whole non-irritating saliva was collected, electrophoresis samples were prepared after freeze-drying, and then stains were separated with SDSPAGE. Western blot detection was used for adhesive protein and Streptococcus mutans' antibody composition. Results The ingredients of Su-bonding secreted on the surface of Streptococcus mutans were obtained in the cultured saliva. There were at least six kinds of components in the extraction of Western blot detection, not limited to the three known kinds of proline-rich protein. Conclusion The adhesion of Streptococcus mutants can be bound with the proteins of saliva. It may be the material basis in Streptococcus mutants adhered to tooth surface.

Objective To study the effect of fluoride varnish on microconsistency of enamel after under irradiation in vitro. Methods Normal enamel samples were randomly divided into four groups: control group, irradiation group, fluoride varnish group and fluoride varnish-irradiation group. The microconsistency of enamel surface before and after treatment, after anti-caries test was measured by type MH-5 durometer. Results Fluoride varnish had an inhibitory effect on the decrease of enamel microconsistency etched with lactate buffer. The microconsistency in irradiation group was obviously lower than that in control group(P

Objective:To examine the changes of matrix metalloprotein as e-2 (MMP-2) and tissue inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinase-2(TIMP-2) in g ingival crevicular fluid(GCF) after periodontal initial treatment of adult perio dontitis pateins. Methods:42 teeth of 42 adult periodontitis pat eins and 42 teeth of 42 periodontal healthy subjects were included.GCF was samp led with filter paper strips by intra-pocket methed. Assays for MMP-2 and TIM P-2 in GCF were performd by ELISA.Results:Levels of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 were higher in patients than that in the controls(P

Objective To study whether specific IL-1B+3954/Taq Ⅰ genotype alleles are associated with chronic periodontitis (CP) in Chinese of the Han nationality. Methods CP group consisted of 66 patients while healthy controls group consisted of 50 subjects. Anti-coagulated peripheral blood sample was obtained from each subject and genomic DNA was extracted from each sample. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) at IL-1B+3954/Taq Ⅰ were analyzed by standard polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphisms (PCR-RFLP) assay. Results In the control group, higher numerical values of the A1/A1 genotype were observed for the IL-1B+3954/Taq Ⅰ SNPs (84.0%),and the A2+ genotype was present in 16% of this sample. Statistical analysis revealed no significant difference between the two groups. Conlusion There is no evidence in our study supporting the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the IL-1B+3954/Taq Ⅰ gene and prevalence and/or severity of chronic periodontitis.

Objective To examine the changes of matrix metalloproteinase-2,9 (MMP-2,9) in gingival crevicular fluid(GCF) after phase 1 periodontal treatment of adult patients with periodontitis. Methods GCF was sampled with filter paper strips by intra-pocket method to determine MMP-2,9 levels. Forty teeth of forty adult patients with periodontitis and forty teeth of forty periodontally healthy persons were included in this study. Assays for MMP-2,9 in GCF were performd by ELISA. Results Contents of MMP-2,9 were higher in AT group than those in controls(P

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the accuracy of cone-beam CT (CBCT) for detection of bone defects in chronic periodontitis and its consistency with periapical film, panoramic radiograph and clinical examination.
METHODSSeventy-five patients with periodontitis were selected in the study. Each patient received clinical examination, periapical film, panoramic radiograph and CBCT examination one week after supragingival scaling. The distance from the alveolar ridge crest to enamelo-cemental junction was measured. The data were statistically analyzed.
RESULTSA total of 1 494 teeth and 8 964 sites were included in the study. Among the three kinds of imaging methods only CBCT could detect the lip (buccal) or tongue (palatine) side of alveolar bone destruction. Compared with panoramic radiographs[mesial: (4.9±0.4) mm, distal: (4.9±0.8) mm] and periapical film [mesial: (5.1±0.6) mm, distal: (5.1±0.8) mm], CBCT [mesial: (5.5±0.4) mm, distal: (5.6±0.8) mm] showed significant differences (P < 0.01) in alveolar bone defect measurements in detecting mesial and distal alveolar bone defect. There was no significant difference between clinical probing [mesial: (5.5±0.6) mm, distal: (5.5±0.6) mm] and CBCT.
CONCLUSIONSCBCT have the highest consistency with clinical probing in detecting the alveolar bone loss in chronic periodontitis.

Objective:To explore the effect of 3D printing periodontal bone defect model of anterior teeth combined with case-based learning (CBL) teaching mode in the standardized residency training of loose teeth fixation. Methods:Sixty general practitioner of stomatology students were equally divided into two groups, with one group receiving CBL teaching (CBL group) and the other group receiving 3D printing model combined CBL teaching (3D+CBL group). After the teaching, the teacher evaluated the overall practice effects, tested the residents' theory and practice scores, and designed a questionnaire to evaluate the teaching effect. SPSS 16.0 software was used for statistical analysis, and t test was used for comparison between the two groups. Results:The theoretical score (89.0±3.2) and the practical score (90.0±2.5) in the 3D+CBL group were significantly higher than the theoretical score (83.3±3.6) and the practical score (84.2±3.5) in the CBL group ( P<0.05). The questionnaire showed that the students of the 3D+CBL group performed significantly better than those in CBL group in the following eight aspects, including mastery of basic periodontal knowledge, professional knowledge of loose teeth fixation, ability to diagnose cases and formulate treatment plans, clinical operation ability, interesting teaching content, willingness to communicate with teachers, awareness of actively receiving patients, and satisfaction of standardized residency training ( P<0.05). Conclusion:The 3D printing periodontal bone defect model of anterior teeth combined with the CBL teaching mode has achieved good results in the teaching of loose teeth fixation, and it provides a reference for the application of 3D printing in clinical teaching for periodontology.
