Neovascularization is the basis of tumor growth and metastasis. Angiogenesis depends mainly on the regulation of vascular endothelial growth factor and angiogenesis inhibiting factor. The vascular endothelial growth factor and its receptor are the most important and are studied most. The expression of them increased significantly in gastric cancer tissue and serum.. They promote angiogenesis of tumor. They are closely related to the prognosis of patient. The vascular endothelial growth factor and its receptor in the gastric cancer are reviewed in this article.

Objective To investigate whether mTOR/p70S6K signal was activated in peripheral T lymphocytes of the coronary heart disease (CHD) patients and to investigate its possible role in the pathogenesis of coronary atherosclerosis. Methods The mRNA expressions of mTOR andp70S6K were detected by RT-PCR and protein expressions of mTOR, p70S6K and phosphorylated-p70S6K (p-p70S6K) were detected by Western blot assay in T cells isolated from peripheral blood of the CHD patients (including AMI, UAP, SAP) and the CPS patients. Results Levels of mTOR and p-p70S6K were significantly enhanced in the AMI and UAP groups as compared with those in the SAP and CPS groups (P < 0.05, respectively). The mRNA expressions of mTOR and p70S6K were significantly increased in the AMI and UAP groups as compared with those in the SAP and CPS groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion The mTOR/p70S6K pathway is activated in the peripheral T lymphocytes of CHD patients with AMI and UAP , which may participate in the pathological process of coronary atherosclerosis.

Our experiment aims to compare the effects of "energy-containing lactated Ringer's solution"(EL-RS) with those of "lactated Ringer's solution" (LRS) as an initial resuscitation fluid for the treatment of traumatic shock in rabbits. Deep shock animal models were produced in 74 adult rabbits using the method of pincers pressure and Wiggers' hemorrhagic shock method to produce crush injury of the soft tissue on the thigh and comminuted fracture of the femur. Results showed that blood pressure of the experimental group rose more rapidly than control group and the survival time of the former were longer than the later. The lowering of serum lactate and blood pH etc. showed a similar difference. It is suggested that ELRS is more efficient than LRS for the treatment of traumatic shock in rabbits.

In order to elucidate the ultrastructural changes of human spermatozoa afteradministration of gossypol acetate 40 mg/day for 50 days,freeze-replica techniqueswere employed. In addition to the ordinary changes of spermatozoa, such as swelling, wasting, atrophy, tortuosity, nodulation in the head and/or tail region and fracture betweenhead and tail, the internal structure, biomembrane and intramembranous particles ofsperm also showed relatively more sensitive changes. The changes of biomembranerevealed certain shift in regard to the firmness of reciprocating attachment of inner-and outer-leaflets of the unit membrane. On the other hand, the changes of intra-membranous particles revealed a specialized arrangement, this is,on the plasmamembrane of head and tail they were concentrated into lattice work, whereas,in thehind-head region they accumulated as clusters. In the hind-acrosomal membranetwo types of particles, large and small, may be distinguished, the smaller ones werearranged orderly in lines of all directions. As for the nuclear pores,no changewas found in this study. It is considered that the influences of gossypol upon human spermatozoa, firstof all, were shown in the biomembrane and intramembranous particles, and theordinary changes in appearance were the secondary result. In the discussion,it'ssuggested that a special agent, gossypol receptor, responsible for the gossypol effectsto the sperm, may be present in the plasma membrane of the spermatozoa.

Pulmonary ventilation function of 22 patients with idiopathic scoliosis was assessed. The results showed that there were significantly lower in Vital Capacity, Vita! Capacity % in predicted, Inspiratory Capacity, Forced Vital Capacity, Forced Expiratory Volume in Is, Maximal Voluntary Ventilation, and Maximal Voluntary Ventilation % in predicted of patients than those of age and sex matched normal controls. And there was no any statistical difference of Tidal Volume, Forced Expiratory Volume in Is % in predicted, Maximal Middle Flow, and Maximal Middle Flow % in predicted between two groups. Furthermore, the reduction of Vital Capacity % in patients with idiopathic scoliosis was correlated with the Cobb Angle, Wedge Index and rotation degree of the top vertebral body and not with the scoliosis direction and the patients' age.

Acta Anatomica Sinica 1953;0(01):-
The epithelial cells of normal human epididymis were studied by ultrathin section and freeze-etching replica techniques. It was found that the pseudostratified epithelium is composed mainly of dark-columnar, clear-columnar, ciliated, basal and few narrow-columnar cells. The ultrastructure of the epithelia from the head region to the tail of the epdidymis reveals no distinctive segmental demarcation, but transits gradually. The ciliated cells distributed chiefly in the initial segment of epididymis, fibril-like elements were found frequently in the supranuclear region of its cytoplasm, yet their function remains unknown. The dark-columnar cells as well as the clearcolumnar and the cillated cells of the head region of the epididymis exhibit the cytological ultrastructural characteristic features of absorption as is often the case with endocytotic vesicles and lysosomes, etc. These morphologycal findings confirm the view that these cells, particularly the dark-columnar cell, appear to be responsible to the absorption of testicular secretion in the epididymis. The clear-columnar and the dark-columnar cells, especially the former, in the distal portion of the epididymis possesses the secretory cytological characterestics. It is suggested that these cells were concerned with the production of the epididymis semen. In the discussion, the authors pointed out that the scientific basis for the detailed functions of the epididymis remains to be investigated further.

Sciatic neurectomy was performed on the right limb in 30 rats divided into three groups. On the first postoperative days, stainless steel capacitor plates were applied parallel to each other over the midtibial region of the right, neurectomized limb m each animal in the latter two groups, which were stimulated continuously with a 60kHz sinawave signal delivering 5-10V from peak to peak. The first group was served as controls and received no electrical stimulation. At the completion of 12d of electrical stimulation, all rats were sacrificed. A statistically significant enhancement of wet weight, dry weight, ashed weight, ultimate strength and bone density occurred in the stimulated, denervated tibiae of the experimental animals compared with the nonstimulated, denervated tibiae of the control animals. The results show that a sciatic neurectomized osteoporosis was prevented in the tibiae by a capacitively coupled electrical field.
