1.EFFECT OF ZINC ON THE FUNCTION OF IMMUNE CELLS IN VITRO
Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(03):-
The spleno-and thyme-lymphocytes of mice were cultured in the media with various concentrations of zinc. The results showed that zinc acted as a weak mitogen and stimulating lymphocyte proliferation at 0.12-0.5? 10-4 mol/L. It also enhanced the lymphocyte proliferation to Con A and LPS. The optimal concentration was 0.12?10-4mol/L. It enhanced the MLR of spleno-lym-phocyte and increased the responsive ability of thymocyte to IL-1. Zinc was poisonous to cells at concentrations higher than 1.0 ?10-4mol/L.

Objective The vertical mammaplasty improves the breast morphology, and reduces the operative scar. However, the nipple-and-areola complex (NAC) has the risk of necrosis on those severe patients. In this report,we performed the vertical incision scar reduction mammaplasty based on Würinger's horizontal septum to reduce the NAC necrosis possibility. Methods Typical Lejour mosque-dome design was performed. The inferior part of glandular tissue and skin were excised. The NAC was elevated to normal position with medial-superior pedicle based on the horizontal septum. The breast morphology was modified with lateral and medial glandular pillar suturing using nonabsorbent thread. For reducing the vertical scar, the lower breast flap was thinned to induce the skin contraction. Results 27 patients with breast hypertrophy were operated from May 2009 to October 2012.1 patient had unilateral breast reduction, and 6 patients with 8 breasts had partial wound dehiscence. They were treated conservatively with topical dressings. No complete NAC necrosis occurred. Conclusions The vertical reduction mammaplasty based on Würinger's horizontal septum is a safe and effective approach, and the NAC necrosis possibility is reduced with this procedure.

The nutritional survey was made in 184 anorexia children aged 3-7, 123 of them were treated with various measures for three months. The results indicated that the children with anorexia had low intake and deficiency in energy, protein, minerals and vitamins. Most of them had zinc deficiency, but they simultaneously had two to three nutrients deficiency. The zinc treatment could improve most patient's syndrome and nutritional status. The effect of zinc treatment with vitamines and iron preparations was better than zinc treatment only. The effect of treatment with Chinese medicine also was able to cure the children with anorexia to certain extent.

Objective To study the expressions of S100A4 and urokinase plasminogen activator(uPA) in pancreatic cancer cells and their correlation with patients prognosis. Methods The expressions of S100A4 and uPA were examined in 63 surgical specimens of primary pancreatic carcinoma by suing immunohistochemistry PV methods, and correlation of their expressions and prognosis of pancreatic cancer was analyzed. Results ( 1 ) Positive immunostaining for S100A4 and uPA was observed in 74.6% (47 cases) and 65.1% (44 cases) of 63 pancreatic cancer samples respectively.(2) The positive expressions of S100A4 and uPA were significantly correlated in pancreatic cancer( P =0.000,r =0.567 ).( 3 ) The expression of S100A4 significantly correlated with TNM stages( P =0.002 ),lymph node metastasis ( P =0.002 ) and distant metastasis ( P =0.007 ).The expression of uPA had a significant correlation with TNM stages ( P =0.002),lymph node metastasis ( P =0.001 )and differentiation(P =0.003).(4) Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that the median survival (21 months) of patients with S100A4 ( - ) was significantly longer than the median survival ( 9 months) of the patients with S100A4( + )(P=0.000) ;the median survival(9 months) of patients with uPA( + ) was significantly shorter than the median survival ( 18 months) of the patients with uPA ( - ) ( P =0.000) ; the median survival(23 months)of 13 patients with S100A4( - )/uPA( - )was significantly longer than the median survival of other cases ( Log-rank test,x2 =54.444,P =0.000).( 5 ) Cox regression model ( x2 =53.974,P =0.000 )analysis suggested:the differentiation(P =0.004),lymph node metastasis(P =0.017) 、S100A4( + ) expression ( P =0.000) and uPA ( + ) expression ( P =0.001 ) were independent prognostic factors for pancreatic cancer. Conclusion S100A4 and uPA are highly expressed in pancreatic cancer cells, and S100A4 expression has positive correlation with uPA expression, which indicates that the overexpression of S100A4 and uPA maybe poor prognosis factors for pancreatic cancer patients.S100A4 maybe promote extracellular matrix and basement membrane degradation by up-regulation of uPA protein expression, and ultimately promote tumor invasion and metastasis, which is not favorable to prognosis. They may be potential indicators of metastasis and predictors for prognosis of pancreatic cancer.

Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 2011;31(3):318-320
Objective To compare extravascular lung water index (EVLWI) and oxygenation index (PaO2/FiO2) in estimation of acute lung injury(ALI) .Methods Sixteen patients with post traumatic ALI (within 48 h) of both sexes, aged 18-80 yr, were studied. The patients were mechanically ventilated. Right internal jugular vein and femoral artery were catheterized and connected to PiCCO monitor (IntelliVue MP50, Philips, Netherlands).EVLWI was monitored with the PiCCO system. PaO2 was determined every 24 h. ALI was diagnosed based on the following criteria:(1)PaO2/FiO2≤300 mm Hg; (2)X-ray chest film-patchy shadows in the bilateral lungs and (3) CVP≤12 mm Hg.Lung injury score(LIS) was recorded. The patients were divided into PaO2/FiO2≤ 300 group and ≤200 group and EVLWI ≥ 10 group and < 10 group. Results There was no significant difference in LIS between PaO2/FiO2 ≤300 group and PaO2/FiO2 ≤200 group at 24 and 48 h of PiCCO monitoring. At 72 h of PiCCO monitoring LIS was significantly increased in PaO2/FiO2 ≤200 group as compared with PaO2/FiO2 ≤300 group, LIS was significantly higher in EVLWI≥ 10 group than in EVLWI < 10 group at 24, 48 and 72 h of PiCCO monitoring. Conclusion EVLWI is more accurate than PaO2 /FiO2 in estimation of severity of ALI.
