4 mm in diameter, re-operations of ESWL were required until no stones were detected. Results All the patients presented a good tolerability to the treatment and left for home by themselves. With exception of 1 case of failed lithotripsy, the ESWL was successfully accomplished in the rest of 17 cases after receiving 3~9 times of treatment. One or two times of hematuria occurred in 66 times of treatment (66/77, 85.7%). A “stone terrace”, 1.9~5.2 cm in length, was found in 5 cases, 4 of which were cured by re-operation of ESWL and 1 of which underwent ureteroscopic removal of stones. Conclusions Low-energy extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is a safe and effective option for patients with renal staghorn calculi.

A total of 183 patients of ectopic pregnancy due to tubal factors were divided into the methotrexate (MTX),conservative surgery and salpingectomy groups. The dose of gonadotropin, counts of harvested oocytes and high-quality embryos and pregnancy rate were compared among three groups to analyze the differences of in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET).And the above parameters showed no significant differences (P >0.05 ).The clinical pregnancy rate of the conservative group was higher than the other two groups. And the difference was statistically significant compared with salpingectomy ( P < 0.05 ).It suggested that the treatments of ectopic pregnancy had some effects on the outcome of IVF-ET.The pregnancy rate was slightly higher in the conservative surgery group.

Objective To investigate the effects of silencing of the human cerebral 21 .5 kDa myelin basic protein (MBP) gene on the proliferation and apoptosis of the glioma U251 cells .Methods The 21 .5 kDa MBP sequence‐specific short hair‐pin RNA (shR‐NA) recombinant plasmids pGenesil‐1‐MBP‐3 were transfected into the human glioma cell line(U251) ,the cells of U251 was used as MBP silencing group ,the cells transfected with negative control plasmids used as negative control group ,and the cells transfected with liposomes used as blank control group .Real‐time PCR and Westernblot were used to detect the expression levels of the 21 .5 kDa MBP mRNA and protein in each group ,and the cell proliferation curve was measured by CCK‐8 assay ,the apoptosis rate was a‐nalysised by Flow cytometry .Results Both the mRNA and the protein expression levels of the 21 .5 kDa MBP of MBP silencing group were significantly lower than those in the control groups (P<0 .05);the cellular proliferation activity of the MBP silencing group decreased significantly (P<0 .05)while the cellular apoptotic rate increased significantly (P<0 .05) .Conclusion Silencing of the human cerebral 21 .5 kDa MBP gene may playa dual role in the inhibition of proliferation and the promotion of apoptosis of the glioma U251 cells .

To explore the relationship and possible mechanism of reproductive function of bisphenol A (BPA) with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).Serum specimens were collected from 43 PCOS patients and 37 healthy women. And the level of BPA was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).The serum level of BPA in PCOS were significantly higher than that in the control group. And the inter-group difference was significant (P < 0.05).The patient level of BPA was positively related with obesity and basic luteinizing hormone (LH) (P < 0.05).In the PCOS group,no significant correlation existed between hyperandrogenemia and non-hyperandrogenemia (P > 0.05).Although no difference existed between insulin and non-insulin resistance, the level of BPA in insulin resistance group was lower than in non-insulin resistance group.A higher level of BPA may be associated with obesity and basic LH in PCOS.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the surgical management and its result of the cervical esophageal cancer.METHODS Forty six patients with cervical esophageal carcinoma who received surgical treatment in our hospital were included in this retrospective study. The removed hypopharynx and cervical esophagus were repaired with laryngotracheal flap in 5 cases, free myocutaneous flap in 4 patients and free jejunum in 2 patients. The inversion stripping esophagectomy without thoracotomy were performed in 35 patients.RESULTS During the early postoperative period, complications included recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis in 2 cases, anastomotic fistula in 3 cases, anastomotic stenosis in 5 cases,Long-term postoperative gastro-esophageal reflux occurred in 19 cases. The 5-year survival rate was 28.7%. CONCLUSION The surgical treatment for cervical esophageal carcinoma should be decided by the location of the tumor, the extent of the cancer involved and lymph node metastasis.

Secalonic acid D (SAD) could inhibit cell growth in not only sensitive cells but also multidrug resistant (MDR) cells. However, the molecular mechanisms need to be elucidated. Here, we identified that SAD possessed potent cytotoxicity in 3 pairs of MDR and their parental sensitive cells including S1-MI-80 and S1, H460/MX20 and H460, MCF-7/ADR and MCF-7 cells. Furthermore, SAD induced cell G2/M phase arrest the downregulation of cyclin B1 and the increase of CDC2 phosphorylation. Importantly, JNK pathway upregulated the expression of c-Jun in protein level and increased c-Jun phosphorylation induced by SAD, which was linked to cell apoptosis c-Jun/Src/STAT3 pathway. To investigate the mechanisms of upregulation of c-Jun protein by SAD, the mRNA expression level and degradation of c-Jun were examined. We found that SAD did not alter the mRNA level of c-Jun but inhibited its proteasome-dependent degradation. Taken together, these results implicate that SAD induces cancer cell death through c-Jun/Src/STAT3 signaling axis by inhibiting the proteasome-dependent degradation of c-Jun in both sensitive cells and ATP-binding cassette transporter sub-family G member 2 (ABCG2)-mediated MDR cells.

BACKGROUNDOveractive bladder (OAB) is a series of symptoms with high prevalence in elderly people. This study was conducted using the overactive bladder symptom score (OABSS) to evaluate the efficacy of solifenacin succinate for the treatment of OAB.
METHODSThis was a prospective, multicenter, single-arm, 12-week study that enrolled 241 OAB patients. The patients received 5-10 mg/day solifenacin. Changes in OABSS, symptoms from voiding diary, perception of bladder condition (PPBC) score, international prostate symptom score (IPSS) and quality of life (QOL) were evaluated at weeks 0, 4, and 12. The relationship between OABSS and PPBC score or parameters of voiding diary was also evaluated.
RESULTSAt baseline, the mean OABSS for all patients was 9.41 ± 2.40, and was reduced significantly at week 12 (-3.76 points; 61.21%, P < 0.0001). The OABSS subscore, PPBC score, IPSS, and QOL were also significantly reduced during the study (P < 0.0001). The overall incidence of adverse events was 19.91% (44 cases). The gastrointestinal system was the most commonly affected (11.31%). Around 5.88% of the cases had adverse events related to the genitourinary system. There was a strong correlation between OABSS and urinary symptoms that was recorded in the 3-day voiding dairy.
CONCLUSIONSWe showed that solifenacin was clinically effective for relieving OAB symptoms, considering the balance between efficacy, patients' well-being, and tolerability. OABSS integrates four OAB symptoms into a single score and can be a useful tool for research and clinical practice.
