Objective To analysis the flash electroretinogram (FERG) of diabeic retionpatby patients. Method 90 cases of DR patients were selected. According to the partial signs and the overall symptoms, the patients can be divided into three syndromes - dry heat by yin deficiency, deficiency of both qi and yin, deficiency of yin and yang. FERG were detected. Result There was close relation between the occurrence and development of DR and the evolution of the syndrome from yin deficiency to yang involved by deficient yin. Retina actional potential will change along with the change of syndrome. Conclusion The retina actional potential which recorded by FERG can be used as an objective criterion of syndrome differentiation, thus we can establish a diagnosis and treatment system of DR.

BACKGROUND:Bone marrow is the main source of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)at present, but its application has been limited, because of some reasons such as inconvenience of isolation, and the quantity of cells decreases with human increased age.Umbilical cord as a new source of MSCs has been widespread concerned recently.OBJECTIVE:To explore the approach of isolating and culturing MSCs from Wharton's jelly of human umbilical cord, and the methods of identifying the surface antigens and the differentiation potential.METHODS:MSCs were isolated and amplified via tissue-cultivation,and cultured by FasGrow medium.Morphology of MSCs from Wharton's jelly of human umbilical cord was observed under the optical microscope. Its immunophenotypes were detected using immunohistochemistry. The differentiation of MSCs into the osteoblasts was determined utilizing Gomori calcium-cobalt alkaline phosphatase staining, von Kossa calcium node staining, and tetracyclinefluorescence labeling. The differentiation of MSCs into the adipocytes was detected using oil red O staining.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:MSCs were easily obtained from Wharton's jelly of human umbilical cord via the proposed approach. The primary cells grew up to 70%-80% confluence after 12-16 days of culture, and meanwhile the undifferentiated state was maintained and proliferation was stabilized after passage. The cell cycle of double increase was about 2 days, and proliferation in vitro reached twenty generation above.Surface antigen analysis showed that CD44,CD105,CD133,MHC-I were positively expressed, while CD34,CD45 were negatively expressed.Experiments of differentiation in vitro indicated that the obtained cells were capable of differentiating into fat, osteoblast and nerve-like cells.

OBJECTIVE To explore the clinical effect of tonsil temperature-controlled bipolar radiofrequency ablation technology in the treatment of snoring and mild-moderate-obstructive sleep apnea hyponea syndrome(OSAHS). METHODS Forty-six patients were selected,of which 17 were snoring and 29 were mild-moderate-obstructive sleep apnea-hyponea syndrome cases. Tonsil temperature-controlled bipolar radiofrequency with varying probes was used for all patients. RESULTS A follow-up of 6~18 months was carried out. 9 of 17 snoring cases resulted in recovery. The procedure was effective in 6 cases and not effective in 2 cases. 15 of 29 OSAHS cases resulted in recovery. The procedure was effective in 10 cases and not effective in 4 cases. Overall successful rate was 86.9 %(40/46). The size of tonsils, apnea hyponea index(AHI),snoring scale and Epworth sleepiness score(ESS)were significantly decrease dafter operation(P

ObjectiveTo investigate the feasibility and optimal condition of isolation, purification and expansion of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) derived from human umbilical cord blood in vtro.MethodsHuman umbilical cord blood(HUCB) was collected from full term deliveries scheduled, all samples were obtained sterilely with 20 U/ml preservative free heparin. The cord mononuclear cells were isolated with lymphocyte separation medium(density 1.077 g/ml),purified and expanded with MesencultTM medium and acidic environment to produce adherent layer. The surface antigen expression of MSCs was detected with flow cytometry.ResultsThe HUCB-derived mononuclear cells, when seeded in specific medium, gave rise to adherent cells, which exhibited either an osteoclast or mesenchymal-like phenotype. After passage 3,these cells were able to be purified and expanded.6.6×105 primary MSCs reached a number of 9.9×10<>sup8 after 10 expanded passage.Flow cytometry showed that MSCs did not express antigens CD34,CD11a and CD11b,but express strongly CD29 and weakly CD71,which was identical to human bone marrow-derived MSCs.ConclusionMSCs in HUCB can be cultured and expanded in vitro, and could be a source of stem cells for experimental and clinical application.

ObjectiveThis clinical study is aimed to investigate whether levetiracetam (LEV) can improve electrocorticogram (EEG) in epileptic children epilepsy patients with better clinical manifestation but abnormal EEG findings.MethodsTotally 39 children from our neurological clinic with partial or complex partial epilepsy seizure were included in present study and assigned equally into three groups receiving different treatment:control group, sodium valproate (VPA) group, and LEV group.Their clinical symptoms had been controlled for over one year by carbamazepine ( CBZ),but EEG results showed clearly abnormal.Epileptiform discharges were observed in routine EEG exams half a month before recruiting. After recruiting, they continued to receive CBZ alone (control group) or co-treated with VPA ( VPA group) or LEV (LEVgroup),respectively.Six months later,EEG was taken again and results were analyzed.ResultsImprovement rate were 9.1% ( control group),23.1% ( VPA group),and 66.7% (LEV group),respectively;Overall statistical difference was reached among three groups ( P<0.01 ) and between control group and LEV group( P<0.012 5 ),but no statistical difference between control group and VPA group was reached ( P>0.0125).ConclusionCo-treatment of LEV in child epilepsy patients receiving CBZ can significantly decrease abnormal EEG discharge frequency during interictal period.

Objective To apply Nutritional Risk Screening-2002(NRS-2002) to perform primary screening for nutritional risk in patients with esophageal cancer who undergo radiotherapy, and assess their nutritional status, and to investigate the value of NRS-2002 in such patients. Methods A total of 97 patients who were diagnosed with esophageal cancer and underwent radiotherapy in Zhejiang Cancer Hospital from January 2010 to April 2014 were analyzed retrospectively. The Kaplan-Meier method was applied to analyze the difference in survival, and the chi-square test and the Pearson correlation analysis were applied to analyze the correlation between NRS-2002 score and blood parameters. Results Of all patients, 26.8%had nutritional risk before radiotherapy, which gradually increased with the progress of radiotherapy. The 1-year overall survival rates of the patients with NRS-2002scores of ≤3 and ≥4 on admission were 91.1%and 61.9%, respectively (P=0.010).As for the patients with the highest NRS-2002 scores of ≤2 and ≥3 during treatment, the 1-year overall survival rates were 94.2% and 77.5%, respectively (P=0.012).As for the patients with the lowest NRS-2002 scores of ≤3 and ≥4 during treatment, the 1-year overall survival rates were 91.3% and 54.5%, respectively ( P=0.018).The NRS-2002 score was correlated with prealbumin on admission and at week 1 of radiotherapy (P=0.000 and 0.002), and the NRS-2002 score was correlated with albumin at week 3 of radiotherapy (P=0.036).The multivariate analysis showed that the TNM stage of esophageal cancer and the highest NRS-2002 score during treatment were the independent prognostic factors in esophageal cancer (P=0.001 and 0.005).Conclusions The patients with esophageal cancer undergoing radiotherapy have high nutritional risk, and NRS-2002 score is the independent prognostic factor in these patients and can be used as a tool for primary screening for nutritional risk.
