Objective To investigate the hypoglycemic effects of the ethanol extracts of Plantago asiatica in different diabetes animal models. Methods The different diabetes animal models (adrenaline -induced hyperglyce-mic models, glucose -induced hyperglycemic models, alloxan -induced hyperglycemic models)have been applied. Results Compared with model groups, the ethanol extracts of Plantago asiatica at high dose[(10.26 ±1.76)mmol/L] possessed obviously hypoglycemic effects on adrenaline -induced hyperglycemic mice[(14.74 ±2.47)mmol/L](t =2.558,P <0.01)and the middle dose[(11.74 ±2.35)mmol/L]possessed hypoglycemic effects on adrenaline -induced hyperglycemic mice[(14.74 ±2.47)mmol/L](t =1.524,P <0.05 );Compared with model groups, the ethanol extracts of Plantago asiatica at high dose[(11.38 ±1.76)mmol/L]possessed obviously hypoglycemic effects on glucose -induced hyperglycemic mice[(16.15 ±2.49)mmol/L](t =2.710,P <0.01 )and the middle dose [(13.01 ±3.23)mmol/L]possessed hypoglycemic effects on glucose -induced hyperglycemic mice(t =1.334,P <0.05);In addition, the ethanol extracts of Plantago asiatica could significantly inhibit the rise of blood glucose level and had certain hypoglycemic effect on halloxan -induced diabetic mice. Conclusion The ethanol extracts of Planta-go asiatica have a significant role in lowering blood glucose at a certain extent.

Objective To investigate the immunomodulatory effects of lyophilized royal jelly ( LRJ) on immunoglobulin IgG,IgA,IgM and complement C3 and C4 in patients with low immunity ,and to evaluate the clinical efficacy of LRJ.Methods A self-controlled clinical study of immunomodulatory efficacy of LRJ was performed in 32 patients with low immunity.Every patient took orally LRJ,two times a day.The hepatic function AST,ALT,and immunoglobulin IgG,IgA,IgM and complement C3,C4 were assayed after treatment for 28 days, and then the efficacy and safety of LRJ were evaluated. Results After took orally LRJ,the levels of IgG,IgA,and IgM [(10.31 ±2.03)g/L, (1.69 ±0.55)g/L,(1.51 ±0.55)g/L] were significantly higher than those before treatment [(8.52 ±1.94)g/L, (1.38 ±0.57)g/L,(1.36 ±0.55)g/L](t=5.21,2.25,1.56,all P<0.05),and the levels of C3 and C4 after treatment were significantly higher than before treatment [(0.93 ±0.15) g/L,(0.30 ±0.07) g/L vs (0.83 ± 0.12)g/L,(0.26 ±0.08)g/L] (t=1.94,1.78,all P<0.05).However,there were no significant differences in the levels of AST and ALT before[(38.17 ±12.84)U/L,(32.63 ±12.81)U/L] and after [(36.13 ±11.47)U/L, (31.83 ±12.36)U/L] treatment (t=0.82,0.44,all P>0.05).Conclusion LRJ can increase the levels of immu-noglobulin IgG,IgA and IgM,thus to improve the symptoms of patients with low immunity .

BACKGROUND:Gastric cancer stem cels involved in the neoadjuvant chemotherapy and conventional treatment are closely associated with relapse of gastric cancer. However, this conclusion has not yet been confirmed.
OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of gastric cancer stem cels in tumor invasion and metastasis and its effect on angiogenesis ability.
METHODS:We prepared nude mouse models of gastric cancer to isolate and culture gastric cancer stem cels. Harvested gastric cancer stem cels were detected in cel scratch test, ring test, inhibition rate test, cel migration test and tumorigenicity test.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:After 7 days of culture, the cels exhibited adherent growth but a lack of regularity that most cels were in a tadpole shape. In the cel scratch test, the scratch width was significantly different at 0 and 24 hours (P < 0.05). Under an inverted microscope, the cels were found to form a ring in the ring test. The 50% inhibiting concentration of gastric cancer stem cels induced by oxaliplatin was significantly lower than that induced by 5-fluorouracil (P < 0.05). The number of cels passing through the basilar membrane was significantly increased after cel migration (P < 0.05). After implantation of gastric cancer stem cels, the gastric tissue quality was significantly higher than that in normal nude mice of gastric cancer (P < 0.05). These findings indicate that gastric cancer stem cels responsible for tumor invasion and migration have stronger angiogenesis ability.
