Objective:To evaluate the effect of electroacupuncture on the heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1)/PTEN-induced putative kinase 1 (PINK1)/Parkin signaling pathway during acute kidney injury in endotoxemic rats.Methods:Twenty-four SPF healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats, aged 6-8 weeks, weighing 180-220 g, were divided into 4 groups ( n=6 each) by a random number table method: control group(group C), endotoxemia group(group E), acupoint electroacupuncture+ endotoxemia group(group EE), and non-acupoint electroacupuncture+ endotoxemia group(group NE). The endotoxemia model was developed by intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide 10 mg/kg. The equal volume of normal salinewas injected in group C. LPS 10 mg/kg was intraperitoneally injected in group E. In group EE, 30-min electroacupuncture was performed at bilateral Zusanli and Shenshu acupoints using disperse-dense waves with a frequency of 2/15 Hz to induce slight muscle tremor once a day starting from 5 days before developing the model, and the needle was retained until 6 h after injection. Electroacupuncture was performed at the points 0.5 cm lateral to the acupoints of Zusanli and Shenshu in group NE. The rats were anesthetized at 6 h after lipopolysaccharide injection, and blood samples from the femoral vein were obtained for determination of the serum creatinine (Cr) and urea nitrogen (BUN) concentrations(with a biochemical analyzer) and concentrations of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipid transport protein (NGAL), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) and kidney injury molecule-1(KIM-1) in serum (by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). Then the rats were sacrificed and kidney tissues were taken for determination of histological score of kidneys (HSK, using HE staining) and expression of HO-1, PINK1, Parkin, mitochondrial fusion protein 2(Mfn2), optic atrophy protein 1(OPA1) and mitochondrial dynamic-related protein 1 (Drp1) (by Western blot). Results:Compared with group C, serum concentrations of Cr, BUN, KIM-1, NGAL, IL-6 and TNF-α and HSK score of renal tissues were significantly increased, the expression of HO-1, PINK1, Parkin and Drp1 was up-regulated, and the expression of Mfn2 and OPA1 was down-regulated in E, EE and NE groups ( P<0.05). Compared with group E, serum concentrations of Cr, BUN, KIM-1, NGAL, IL-6 and TNF-α and HSK score of renal tissues were significantly decreased, and the expression of HO-1, PINK1, Parkin, Mfn2 and OPA1 was up-regulated, and Drp1 expression was down-regulated in group EE( P<0.05), and no significant change was found in the parameters mentioned above in group NE ( P>0.05). Conclusions:The mechanism by which electroacupuncture alleviates acute kidney injury is associated with activation of HO-1/PINK1/Parkin signaling pathway in endotoxemic rats.

Objective To examine whether Tim-3 plays a protective role in paraquat poisoning induced excessive immune response and tissue damage based on the critical roles of Tim-3 controlling inflammatory response. Methods A paraquat poisoning model was established in wild type and in Tim-3 transgenic C57BL/6 mice by intraperitoneal injection of paraquat (40 mg/kg) .In addition, C57BL/6 mice with paraquat poisoning were injected with Tim-3 soluble protein( sTim-3) or control protein to see the effect of Tim-3 blocking on the progression of paraquat poisoning.Samples were collected at 6 and 24 h after paraquat injection respectively and were examined for tissue damage, cytokine expression and paraquat metabolism. Results After paraquat poisoning, there was significantly attenuated tissue damage in the lungs and kidneys and decreased TNF-α,IL-6 and IL-1 beta expression in the PBMCs or in the serum from Tim-3 transgenic mice compared to wild type mice. The serum concentration of paraquat in Tim-3 transgenic mice was also significantly decreased. However, in sTim-3 treated paraquat poisoning mice, there was significantly increased cytokine expression and tissue damage compared to control protein treated mice. The in vitro data showed that Tim-3 signaling negatively regulated macrophages mediated inflammatory response. Conclusion Tim-3 plays a critical role in maintaining the homeostasis after paraquat poisoning. Further investigation on the regulatory roles of Tim-3 in inflammation will shed new light on the pathogenesis of paraquat poisoning and provide new therapeutic strategies.

Objective:The epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 18 cases of Japanese spotted fever (JSF) in Zigui County were analyzed in order to improve the prevention and treatment of JSF.Methods:This is a case series analysis. The epidemiological and clinical data, laboratory tests and imaging characteristics of 18 JSF cases with median age of 60 years (54, 68) identified by The People′s Hospital of Zigui from April 2021 to August 2022 were collected and analyzed retrospectively. Results:Most (17/18) of the patients were farmers and all had a field exposure history. The patient′s onset was from April to October. Spring and autumn were the seasons with the highest incidence of JSF. The first symptoms of patients were high fever, headache, and fatigue. Of the 18 cases, 15 had a rash and 12 presented an eschar and 3 had neither rash nor eschar. In addition, 10 of 18 cases experienced edema of both lower extremities, and 3 got disturbance of consciousness. Laboratory tests found that 15 patients had abnormal white blood cells and 11 patients had decreased platelets. C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, D-dimer, lactate dehydrogenase, and alpha-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase were elevated in all patients; 13 patients with elevated alanine aminotransferase, 14 patients with elevated aspartate transamination. Kidney damage caused by Rickettsia japonica infection showed by abnormal proteinuria in 11 of the patients. Conclusions:The most common clinical manifestations of JSF are non-specific indications such as high fever, chills, fatigue, headache. The eschar and rash, which are the main features of Rickettsia infection, are not present in all patients, resulting delay of diagnosis or misdiagnosis. Medical workers should be more alert to rickettsial infections in patients with fever of unknown origin, especially in seasons of high incidence of spotted fever. Early diagnosis and correct antibiotic treatment shall be given according to the patient′s clinical manifestations, laboratory results and imaging test to control disease progression.

Objective:To summarize the clinical manifestations, electrophysiological, muscle magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), pathological, and genetic characteristics of 8 patients with Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD) to improve the recognition and diagnosis of EDMD.Methods:Eight patients with EDMD confirmed by gene analysis admitted to Hebei Medical University Third Hospital from 2011 to 2022 were enrolled. The detailed clinical symptoms, neurophysiological examination, electrophysiological changes (electromyography and electrocardiography), skeletal muscle MRI characters, skeletal muscle pathological features and gene mutations were analyzed retrospectively. Results:The age of onset ranged from 2.0 to 6.0 (3.6±1.2) years. All patients had insidious onset and progressive development. Muscle weakness was the first symptom for 7 cases that manifested as difficulty in squatting and walking up stairs. Later, spinal ankylosis and joint contracture occurred. One patient had scoliosis as the first symptoms. Abnormal electrocardiogram was found in 4 cases. The electromyography of all patients showed myogenic damage. Muscle biopsy demonstrated dystrophic features in 1 patient, and other myopathic features, including a variation in muscle fiber size, a marked increase in internal nuclei, and, smaller diameter of typeⅠfibers. Next-generation sequencing result showed that 6/8 cases carried 4 LMNA heterozygous mutations (c.1583C>G, c.1357C>T, c.148C>T, c.1336A>G); 1/8 case carried EMD hemizygous mutation (c.501C>G); 1/8 carried SYNE1 heterozygous mutation (c.4364G>A). Conclusions:EDMD has highly clinical and genetical heterogeneity. The onset age is usually in childhood. The first symptom is characterized by weakness of lower limbs and abnormal walking posture. Electromyography shows myogenic lesion. Skeletal muscle MRI shows selective fat infiltrations. Muscle biopsy pathology lacks characteristic pathological findings. It is difficult to make diagnosis and differential diagnosis by clinical manifestations and auxiliary examination in the early stage of the disease. The second generation sequencing technology can improve the early diagnosis rate of EDMD.

AIM:To investigate the effect of small incision lenticule extraction(SMILE)on the treatment of myopia patients, and the impact on corneal biomechanics.METHODS:Retrospective study. A total of 120 myopic patients(240 eyes)who were scheduled to undergo corneal refractive surgery in Anyang Eye Hospital from January 2020 to December 2021 were selected. The patients were divided into SMILE group(64 patients, 128 eyes)and transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy(TransPRK)group(56 patients, 112 eyes)according to the surgical treatment method. The two groups were compared in terms of uncorrected visual acuity, corneal biomechanics, corneal endothelial cell count, posterior corneal surface height and corneal surface regularity index at 1, 7 d, 1, 3, 6 mo and 1 a after surgery, and surgical complications.RESULTS:The uncorrected visual acuity of the SMILE group at 1, 7 d and 1 mo after surgery was better than that of the TransPRK group(all P<0.001), but there was no statistically significant difference between the groups at 3, 6 mo and 1 a after surgery(all P>0.05). Compared with preoperative values, corneal-compensated intraocular pressure, Goldmann-correlated intraocular pressure, corneal resistance factor, and corneal hysteresis in both groups showed a first decreasing and then increasing trend after surgery. The corneal-compensated intraocular pressure, Goldmann-correlated intraocular pressure, corneal resistance factor, and corneal hysteresis in the SMILE group at 1, 7 d and 1 mo after surgery were higher than those in the TransPRK group(all P<0.05), but there was no statistically significant difference between the groups at 3, 6 mo and 1 a after surgery(all P>0.05). There were no significant changes of corneal endothelial cell count and corneal posterior surface height in the two groups after surgery(all P>0.05). Furthermore, corneal surface regularity index of the two groups showed a first increasing and then decreasing trend after surgery, with no statistically significant difference between the groups(P>0.05), and there was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of postoperative complications between the groups(P>0.05).CONCLUSION:Compared with TransPRK, SMILE has less influence on corneal biomechanics, and better visual recovery in the early stage. There is no difference in long-term visual acuity between the two surgeries, and both have good safety and effectiveness.

Focused on the world-wide issue of improving the accuracy of emotion recognition, this paper proposes an electroencephalogram (EEG) signal feature extraction algorithm based on wavelet packet energy entropy and auto-regressive (AR) model. The auto-regressive process can be approached to EEG signal as much as possible, and provide a wealth of spectral information with few parameters. The wavelet packet entropy reflects the spectral energy distribution of the signal in each frequency band. Combination of them gives a better reflect of the energy characteristics of EEG signals. Feature extraction and fusion are implemented based on kernel principal component analysis. Six emotional states from a public multimodal database for emotion analysis using physiological signals (DEAP) are recognized. The results show that the recognition accuracy of the proposed algorithm is more than 90%, and the highest recognition accuracy is 99.33%. It indicates that this algorithm can extract the feature of EEG emotion well, and it is a kind of effective emotion feature extraction algorithm, providing support to emotion recognition.

In this paper, a feature extraction algorithm of weighted multiple multiscale entropy is proposed to solve the problem of information loss which is caused in the multiscale process of traditional multiscale entropy. Algorithm constructs the multiple data sequences from large to small on each scale. Then, considering the different contribution degrees of multiple data sequences to the entropy of the scale, the proportion of each sequence in the scale sequence is calculated by combining the correlation between the data sequences, so as to reconstruct the sample entropy of each scale. Compared with the traditional multiscale entropy the feature extraction algorithm based on weighted multiple multiscale entropy not only overcomes the problem of information loss, but also fully considers the correlation of sequences and the contribution to total entropy. It reduces the fluctuation between scales, and digs out the details of electroencephalography (EEG). Based on this algorithm, the EEG characteristics of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children are analyzed, and the classification accuracy of the algorithm is increased by 23.0%, 10.4% and 6.4% as compared with the EEG extraction algorithm of sample entropy, traditional multiscale entropy and multiple multiscale entropy based on the delay value method, respectively. Based on this algorithm, the 19 channel EEG signals of ASD children and healthy children were analyzed. The results showed that the entropy of healthy children was slightly higher than that of the ASD children except the FP2 channel, and the numerical differences of F3, F7, F8, C3 and P3 channels were statistically significant ( <0.05). By classifying the weighted multiple multiscale entropy of each brain region, we found that the accuracy of the anterior temporal lobe (F7, F8) was the highest. It indicated that the anterior temporal lobe can be used as a sensitive brain area for assessing the brain function of ASD children.
