Objective To determine the mechanism underlying the mandibular angle enlargement and to provide a morphological basis for correcting the enlarged mandibular angle. Methods By axial computed tomography, it is possible to measure the width and length of the masseter and the medial pterygoid, the gonial angle, and the vertical height of the posterior mandible. The date were initially analysed by using a simple correctionials and indpendent sample T test. Results The distance between two Go points and gonial angle were significantly related with the thickness of masseter muscle, but the thickness of the medial pterygoid was on the contrary. There was significant differences between the group of prominence and the normal control in the gonial angle, the distance between two Go points and thickness of masseter . But there was no difference between the the two groups in the thickness of medial pterygoid. Conclusion The thickness of the masseter muscle is an important factor that affects the lower facial morphology. The hypertrophy of masserter muscle may cause the mandibular angle enlargement.

BACKGROUND: Whether a combination of the nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) scaffolds with bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) is superimposed to promote or inhibit the bone marrow stromal stem cells, as well as its biocompatibility, remain unclear.OBJECTIVE: To observe the biocompatibility and bone formation activity of nHA/BMP-2 co-cultured with rabbit bone marrow stem cells in vitro.METHODS: Bone marrow stem cells obtained from rabbits were cultured and proliferated in DMEM medium in vitro. The cells at the third passage were inoculated into four mediums and according divided into four groups: control group, BMP-2 group, nHa group, and nHa/BMP-2 group. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The cell diplo-proliferation time of control group and nHa group was longer than that in BMP-2 group and nHa/BMP-2 group. The cells proliferative activity calculated by MTT assay and bone formation activity based on the alkaline phosphatase method demonstrated statistical significant difference in BMP-2 group and nHa/BMP-2 group compared with control and nHa group (P < 0.01). Experimental findings indicate that, the tissue formation of nHA/BMP-2 not only has good biocompatibility with Bone marrow stem cells, but also could bring into full play the effect of BMP-2 for promoting the proliferation, differentiation, and bone formation activity of bone marrow stem cells.

Objective To investigate the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) and vascular cognitive impairment-no dementia (VCI-ND) subjects. Methods Sixteen normal elders, 10 patients of aMCI, 12 patients of VCI-ND who were aged from 50 to 80 years old and received an education of middle school or higher. All participants finished cranial CT or MRI. Xe-CT was used to evaluate rCBF of different cerebral regions of all participants. Results The distribution of rCBF of basal ganglia, the cortex and white matter was (76. 4 ± 8. 6), (48.0 ± 7. 1) and (20. 5 ± 1.7) ml· 100 g-1 ·min-1, respectively. When compared in 3 groups, the temporal and parietal lobe rCBF had a decreasing tendency in aMCI group, while in VCI-ND group, the most dominant decreasing parts were mainly concentrated in white matter region ((17. 7±2. 3) ml·100 g-1·min-1, F = 5. 740, P = 0. 002). Whatever the depth or the width was, beth periventricular and subeortical deep white matter, anterior and posterior ventricular regions were all involved. There are no dominant difference of rCBF in caudate nucleus, lentiform nucleus and thalamus. Conclusion The difference in rCBF reflects the pathological difference between aMCI and VCI-ND.

Objective To investigate the characters of morphology change and protein expres-sion in progressed renal cell carcinoma after the treatment of sorafinib. Methods Clinical data of 2 cases with progressed renal cell carcinoma treated with sorafenib were collected. The HE slices were reviewed. Immunochemistry was used to detect the expression of Vimentin, AE1/AE3, CK7, CK8, CK18, CD10, VEGF, VEGFR2, p53 and Ki-67 levels. Results There was no difference in patho-logic type between before and after the therapy of sorafenib. Both of the 2 cases were showed degener-ation in tumor cell in different degree with fibrosis and necrosis. The expression of renal cell carcinoma related antigens (Vimentin, AE1/AE3, CK7, CK8, CK18 and CD10) had no difference before and af-ter the treatment of sorafinib. The expressions of VEGF, VEGFR2, p53 and Ki-67 were increased, and the expression of Bcl-2 was decreased after the therapy of sorafinib. Conclusions There may be some morphologie differences between the metastatic tumor or the recurrent tumor and primary tumor because of the treatment of sorafenib. However the pathologic type is the same before and after the treatment of sorafenib. The main differences are the degeneration of the tumor cell and fibrosis after the treatment of sorafenib. The expression changes of VEGF and VEGFR2 may be related to the sor-afenib application.

Chinese Medical Equipment Journal 2004;0(07):-
As an emerging tumor therapy, high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy has difficulty in controlling its dosage due to the complex human tissues. The dosage is related to the tumor such as its depth, size, characteristics and the tissue performances of its growth site. The existing cases are applied to establishing a repository with the above-mentioned parameters of the tumor analyzed. Then reasoning and self-learning are performed. So, the therapeutic dosage can be provided to the clinician when a new case occurs.
