Objective To explore the correlation between cognitive ability and motor ability in stroke patients. Methods 30 stroke patients were assessed with the 3 m Timed Up and Go Test (TUG). The anticipated time by patients and the actual time were recorded, and their difference was caculated, named as the cognitive error. They were also assessed with Trail Making Test-Part A (TMT-A). The actual time of TUG, cognitive error and the time of TMT-A was compared among different groups of Brunnstrom stage of lower limb, and their correlation was analyzed. Results There was a significant difference between the actual time of TUG between Brunnstrom stage Ⅲ and Ⅴ (F=4.600, P<0.05). There was positive correlation between actual time of TUG and cognitive error(r=0.844, P<0.01), time of TMT-A and cognitive error(r=0.508, P<0.01), time of TMT-A and actual time of TUG (r=0.414, P<0.05). Conclusion Motor ability of stroke patients can be influenced by deficient attention and motor cognition.

miRNAs are a group of 22 ~25 nucleotides endogenous non-coding RNAs,which regulate gene expression at the post-transcription level by cause the degradation or translational suppression of target mR-NAs.In recent years, studies have demonstrated that miRNAs widely participate in cell differentiation,prolifera-tion,organ development and lipid metabolism, and are closely related to the formation of many kinds of diseases. The biological function of miRNAs and their effects on regulating prenatal and postnatal lung development are reviewed in this paper.

ObjectiveTo evaluate clinical-pathological features, diagnosis and therapy of gestational trophoblastic tumor (GTT) misdiagnosed as ectopic pregnancy. MethodsFrom 1999 to 2003, a total of 13 patients with GTT misdiagnosed as ectopic pregnancy were retrospectively analyzed. ResultsThe main symptoms were amenorrhea, abdominal pain, irregular vaginal bleeding. Serum beta-human chorionic gonadotrop in(hCG) was measured in 10 patients. Eight had hCG values above 10 000 IU/L; 3 had hCG values above 50 000 IU/L. The lesions of GTT misdiagnosed as ectopic pregnancy were fallopian tube, horn of uterus, peritoneal cavity, greater omentum, recto-uterine pouch. According to standards of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics(FIGO) the 13 patients were categorized as 6 of stage Ⅰ, 2 of stage Ⅱ, 3 of stage Ⅲ and 5 of stage Ⅳ. Histologically they included 10 cases of choriocarcinoma and 3 of invasise mole. All patients were treated by complete surgical resection combined with subsequent adjuvant chemotherapy. ConclusionsMisdiagnosis leads to delay in therapy with resultant increased morbidity of GTT.Analysis on serial hCG is helpful to differential diagnosis between ectopic pregnancy and GTT.

Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of vitrectomy combined with tissue plasminogen activator(r-tPA) and fraxiparine on bacterial endophthalmitis. Methods Forty pigmented rabbits were randomly divided into experimental and control group with 20 rabbits in each. The left eyes underwent intra-vitreous injection with 105/ml bacteria of staphylococcus epidermidis 0.1 ml. After 8-14 hours, vitrectomy was performed on all of the animals. Fraxiparine with the final concentration of 6 IU/ml was only added to balanced salt solution in the experimental group during the operation, and the extend of intraocular fibrin exudation was observed by slit lamp and indirect ophthalmoscope after the operation. If the exudation occurred on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th and 21st day postoperatively, 125 mg/ml r-tPA 0.1 ml should be injected into vitreous from the 1st day after operation on. Results Fibrin exudation in the pupil area and vitreous body was much less in experimental group than that in the control group after the surgery. Conclusion vitrectomy combined with r-tPA and fraxiparine may alleviate the extent of fibrosis in bacterial endophthalmitis and improve the prognosis.

Southern blotting with a labeled and linearized pUC 19 DNA containing a specific fragment of 0. 24 kb DNA of Plasmodium vivax asexual blood stages (kindly offered by Dr. C. Kidson )was used for further identification of blood samples showing positive reaction by dot-blot hybridization. The results showed that those with positive reaction from patients with P. vivax, with P. falciparum or with fever but with negative microscopic findings were also positive by Southern blotting. It was confirmed that some of those positive with P. falciparum were likely to infect P. vivax at the same time. So did a part of those with fever but negative in the blood films (Figs. 1,2).
