At present,medicinal plant extract industry in China develops rapidly.As a modern industry,it does not only use the traditional Chinese medicinal materials as raw materials in conception and content,but also use medicinal plant extract as a core,including worldwide medicinal plant extract.China is an important country of extract production in the world.The present status accompanied with the existed questions and induced factors,countermeasure for development,and suggestion for medicinal plant extract industry in China are discussed in this article.It lays the emphasis on present status of industry for medicinal plant extract which involves the production,application,technology,standard and policy of present status influenced on development stage of plant extract enterprise itself in domestic and international.The development countermeasure and suggestion are put forward from seven aspects.

The best harvest period and the best collected part are determined by the research on accumulating process of secondary metabolism for objective component in herbal plants;The pre-processing method of fresh herbs is obtained by the research on microorganisms and enzymes which have the impact and degradation for secondary metabolite,and processing technology of Chinese materia medica is exploratively proposed by using metabolism theory based on fresh herbs.

In pursuit of the industrialization of Chinese herbal extracts on international market, its traditional background, status of production, modernization of extraction process, governmental administration and policies, future prospects and significance of maintenance public health were discussed

OBJECTIVE:To prepare compound alendronate sodium sustained-release tablet and to investigate its drug release profile in vitro. METHODS: Hydroxy propyl methylcellulose (HPMC), ethylcellulose (EC), and lactis anhydrous were used to prepare sustained-release tablets by wet granule compression technique with release rate in vitro as index. Orthogonal experiment was conducted to optimize the formula. The release rate of the tablets in vitro was investigated. RESULTS: The optimized formula was as follows: HPMC 80 mg, EC 20 mg, and lactis anhydrous 20 mg. 12 h drug release of the preparation was achieved, and the drug release behavior in vitro fitted Higuchi equation. CONCLUSION: The sustained-release tablet is reasonable in formula and satisfactory in slow release efficacy.

BACKGROUND: The disorder of energy metabolism and cerebral edema after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion are the important factors to inducecerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. The Chinese herb, breviscapine, whose effective component is scutellarin, can prevent the activation of protein kinase C evoked by ischemia-reperfusion, relieve calcic overload and reduce the volume of ischemia infarcted focus volume, and then alleviate cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. But what are the influences of breviscapine on energy metabolism and cerebral edema after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion?OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of breviscapine parenteral solution on energy metabolism and cerebral edema after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion in gerbils.DESIGN: A randomized control trial.SETTING: Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical College, Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Anesthesiology, Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical College.MATERIALS: The experiment was carried out in the Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Anesthesiology Between February and August 1999. Seventy-two male gerbils were used.METHODS: The gerbils were randomly divided into sham-operated group (n=8), normothermia control group (n=32) and breviscapine group (n=32).According to the reperfused time, the normothermia control group and breviscapine group were divided into 4 subgroups with 8 gerbils in each subgroup: 0, 10, 30 and 60-minute reperfusion groups. The gerbils in the normothermia control group and breviscapine group were made into models of forebrain ischemia reperfusion, treated with ischemia for 10 minutes. In the sham-operated group, only bilateral common carotid arteries were freed but not occluded. In the breviscapine group, the gerbils were given intraperitoneal injection of breviscapine psrenteral solution (90 mg/kg) at 15 minutes before ischemia. The gerbils in the sham-operated group and normothermia control group were treated with saline of the same volume. The brain water was determined by drying electrothermostat. The contents of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and adenosine phosphate (AMP) in hippocampus were determined with high performance liquid chromatography and ultraviolet detector.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① ATP, ADP and AMP contents in hippocampus; ② Water contents in cerebral cortex.RESULTS: All the 72 gerbils were involved in the analysis of results without deletion. ① ATP, ADP and AMP contents in hippocampus: At 0, 10, 30 and 60 minutes after reperfusion, ATP and adenine nucleotide pool contents in hippocampal tissue in the normothermia control group were obviously decreased, the ATP contents were 68%, 56%, 49% and 50% of those in the sham-operated group respectively (P ＜ 0.01), and adenine nucleotide pool contents were 62%, 50%, 51% and 52% of those in the sham-operated group respectively (P ＜ 0.01). The ATP contents at each time point in the breviscapine group were 84%, 69%, 64% and 63% of those in the sham-operated group respectively, and the adenine nucleotide pool contents were 86%, 72%, 68% and 69% of those in the sham-operated group respectively, which were all obviously higher than those in the normothermia control group (P ＜ 0.05). ②Water contents in cerebral cortex: The water content after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion in the normothermia control group was obviously higher than that in the sham-operated group, and gradually aggravated with the prolongation of reperfusion. The water content in the breviscapine group was obviously higher than that in the sham-operated group, but markedly lower than that in the normothermia control group (P ＜ 0.05).CONCLUSION: Breviscapine can play a role in protecting brain through inhibiting disorder of energy metabolism and relieving cerebral edema.

Objective To evaluate toxicity and safety of trans-resveratrol (t-RSV). Methods For assays of acute toxicity,genetic toxicity, and sub-chronic toxicity, Ames test, mice bone marrow erythrocyte micronucleus, and mice sperm abnormality were performed. Results In the acute oral toxicity tests, maximum tolerable dose (15 g/kg) in male and female Kunming mice showed no toxicological signs. For 90-d feeding of t-RSV at dosage range of 167-500 mg/(kg·d) in both male and female Sprague-Dawley rats, no noticeable toxicological effects were observed.Conclusion T-RSV has no acute toxicity and no genotoxicity, no harmful effects on the human body at the tested dosage range and thus resveratrol is safe for human consumption.

Objective To provide the data of mandible and zygomatic arch, including the space distance of mandible angles, depth and length of zygomatic arch, by direct measurement and related analysis at home position of corpse in Chinese Han for medical aesthetics. Methods The vernier callipers were used to directly measure the every indexes of mandible and zygomatic arch in the formalin-fixed male and female adult corpses (50 each) and to proceed the related analysis. Results The results showed that male mandible thickness was (12.60?1.26) mm, mandible height (33.60?3.35) mm, mandible length (77.60?7.80) mm , width of mandible ramus (34.80?3.50) mm, height of mandible ramus (67.20?6.70) mm, depth of zygomatic arch (9.54?1.19) mm, length of zygomatic arch (40.60?4.97)mm, and thickness of mandible angle (12.20?0.67) mm in male; Mandible thickness was (10.70?0.98) mm, mandible height (29.40?2.64) mm, ramus of mandible height (74.00?7.07) mm, width of mandible (31.10?3.04) mm, height of mandible ramus (64.00?5.53) mm, depth of zygomatic arch (8.67?1.09) mm, l ength of zygomatic arch (36.50?4.59) mm, and thickness of mandible angle (13.80?1.28) mm in female. Conclusions The breadth between bilateral angle of mandible could come to reckoning the depth of zygomatic arch, the length of zygomatic arch and other indexes of mandibles. Those data are useful in aesthetics and preparation of the compound.

Aim To investigate the effects of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) on activation and proliferation of murine CD3+ T lymphocytes,and to study the mechanisms of its immunomodulative effects. Methods Lymphocytes suspension was isolated and prepared sterilely from murine lymph nodes, and was incubated with different concentrations of CAPE for 2 h, then polyclonal activator Con A was added to activate the lymphocytes; double-fluorescence staining and flow cytometry were used to detect CD69 and CD25 expressions to evaluate activation level of CD3+ T lymphocyte, and CFDA-SE staining plus flow cytometry were used to analyze CD3+ T lymphocyte proliferation. Results CAPE (0.5, 1, 5, 10 mg?L-1) could inhibit the expression of CD69 and CD25 of CD3+ T lymphocytes in a dose-dependent manner, and it also could inhibit T lymphocyte proliferation stimulated by Con A in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion In vitro, CAPE could exert notably inhibition on activation and proliferation of murine CD3+ T lymphocytes,and its immunomodulative effects might result from affecting PLC-? signaling and MAPK-signaling pathways. So CAPE was a potentially effective immunoinhibitory agent.

Objective To establish HPLC characteristic chromatogram ofKanglao Qingfei Granules.Methods HPLC analysis of samples was performed on Kromasil C18 column (4.6 mm × 250 mm, 5μm), with acetonitrile-1% glacial acetic acid as the mobile phase of gradient elution (0-50 min, 5%→15% acetonitrile;50-70 min, 15%→25% acetonitrile;70-80 min, 25%→40% acetonitrile;80-90 min, 40%→65% acetonitrile, 90-120 min, 65%→95% acetonitrile);the volume flow rate was 1.0 mL/min;detection wavelength was set at 290 nm;column temperature was 30℃. Chromatographic peaks were identified by HPLC-MS/MS method.Results The similarity degrees of 10 batches of samples were all greater than 0.995, and 13 chromatographic peaks were determined as common characteristic peaks, of which 10 peaks were confirmed in the source attribution and 8 peaks were identified in chemical component.Conclusion The established HPLC characteristic chromatogram can be used for the quality control ofKanglao Qingfei Granules.
