Objective To evaluate the use of the kite flap (als o known as subcutaneous pedicled V-Y advancement flap)for the repair of moderate -sized anterior lamellar skin defects of eyelid. Methods Since 1994, kite flaps have been used to repair anterior lamellar skin defects of eyelids in 14 patients. Six patients were male and eight female, with a mean age of 43 years (range 15-64 years). The diameter of the largest defect reache d 1/3 length of the eyelid. The flaps were designed adjacent to the defects and the incision line corresponding to natural winkle lines on the eyelid. We underm ined the flap under the orbicular muscle, and advanced the flap to cover the def ect. The incisions were closed with 7-0 suture. Results After operation, all flaps survived with primary healing. Follow-up for 3 to 12 months showed that all cases had achieved satisfactory cosmetic effects without secondary deformity. Conclusions It is a simple, safe, an d reliable method to use kite flap for the repair of moderate-sized anterior la mellar eyelid skin defects that are too large to achieve primary approximation. Because kite-flap covers the defect through a direct advancement way without ro tation and twist, there are no dog-ear deformitys present at the pedical area a nd the repaired area looks smoothly. Because of its widely based muscle pedicle which incorporates venous and lymphatic drainage over most of its length, the un desirable pigment deposition is avoided.

Objective To study epicanthus anatomy in cadavers in order to explore a more ideal technique for the correction of epicanthus. Methods On the basis of epicanthus anatomic dissection in 6 adult cadavers, canthoplasty and a new fixation technique for correcting epicanthus was performed clinically in the following procedures: incising the epicanthal fold and partial inner canthus ligament, pulling the new canthus medially and fixing it on the lateral nasal aponeurosis. Results Anatomic dissection showed that the epicanthus was caused by malposition of the orbicularis oculi muscule. More than 200 patients with epicanthus had been operated on by this technique and 165 of them were available for postoperative follow up for 6 months to 4 years with better cosmetic results. Conclusions This technique has less tissue damage and more favorable postoperative scar. It is a simple and reliable surgical approach for correction of epicanthus.

BACKGROUND: Chinese herb digan oral liquid promotes manufacture of hematopoietic cells. During irradiative injury, how are the therapeutic effects of intervention with Chinese herbal compound on expressions of stromal cellular adherent molecule (SCAM) and cyclin gene that are closely related to hematopoietic cells?OBJECTIVE: Mouse model with irradiative injury was established to assay the effects of Chinese herbal compound-digan oral lipid on the expression of medullary cyclinD1mRNA and the expressions of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), stromal cellular adherent molecular CD45 (SCAMCD45) and vascular cellular adherent moldecular-1 (VCAM-1).DESIGN: Randomized controlled experiment was designed.SETTING: Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Area Command of Chinese PLA; Institute of Hematology of Tongji Medical College and Institute of Hepatology of Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.MATERIALS: The experiment was performed in Institute of Hematology of Tongji Medical College and Institute of Hepatology of Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2001 to June 2002, in which,48 outbred Kunming mice were employed, aged varied from 8 to 12weeks, mass-weighted varied from 18 to 22 g, of either sex. Drugs: 100% digan oral lipid is composed of shudihuang (radix rehmanniae preparata) and zhigancao (radix glycyrrhizae preparata). At ratio of 2/1, water decoction was prepared and concentrated as 100% oral liquid (containing raw herb 1 g/mL). METHODS: Totally 48 mice were randomized into 4 groups, 12 mice in each one. Normal group: no any management. Oral lipid group: Digan oral lipid was applied for gastric perfusion in model with irradiative injury,0.02 ml/g, twice a day. Model group: After modeling, physiological saline was used for gastric perfusion with the same dosage as the above. Batilol group: After modeling, batilol suspension was used for gastric perfusion (0.1 g/kg). Gastric perfusion was done continuously for 9 days in each group. On the 10th day, hybridization in situ was used to assay cyclinD1 mRNA expression of medullary mononuclear cell (MNC), Immuniohisto chemical SABC method was used to assay medullary VCAM-1 expression and flow cytometry (FCM) was used to assay CD45 content.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: CyclinD1 mRNA expression of medullary mononuclear cell (MNC) and expression of medullary stromal cellular VCAM-1 and CD45 antigenRESULTS: After modeling, there were 12 mice in normal group and 10 mice in rest groups. In result analysis, 5 mice were randomized in each group. ① In oral liquid group, the expression of medullary cellular cyclinD1 mRNA and VCAM-1 were higher significantly than model group[oralliquid group: (27.34±4.49), (53.94±8.67)% and model group: (16.06±4.57),(31.92±5.01)%, P＜ 0.01]. ② Expression of CD45 antigen iroral liquid group was higher significantly than model group [(41.38±5.76), (19.24±4.98)%, P ＜ 0.01]. Both digan oral liquid and batilol improved the expressions of cyclinD1,VCAM-1 and CD45 antigen.CONCLUSION: Chinese herbal compound-digan oral liquid enhances the expression of adherent molecule of hematopoietic stem cells, promotes the expression of stroma] cellular adherent molecule and improves the transcription of medullary cellular cyclinD1, which induces hematopoietic cells to be differentiated more maturely and to be transported peripherally so as to supplement blood.

Objective To investigate the effect of metformin ( MET) on learning and memory behavior in HFD-induced insulin-resistant rats.Methods Thirty male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into three groups to receive either a normal diet (Control group) or a high-fat diet (two HFD groups) for four weeks(HFD+MET).From two HFD groups, one received vehicle ( HFD group ) alone and other MET administration ( HFD+MET group ) .MET was dissolved in drinking water at a concentration of 2 mg/ml.All rats were subjected to the glucose tolerance test ( GTT) and behavioral tests using the elevated plus maze ( EPM ) , open field test ( OFT ) , Morris water maze ( MWM ) test and the step-through passive avoidance test ( PA) after four-week consecutive MET treatment .Blood samples were collected for determination of glucose. Results MET attenuated the glucose resistant condition and improved cognitive behavior in MWM and PA, vs the HFD group. Conclusion MET can improve the impaired learning and memory behavior in HFD-induced insulin-resistant rats.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of chest X-ray film of pulmonary emphysema (PE)signs for infantile bronchitis.Methods Clinical data of 60 infants with bronchitis (case group)in a hospital between Janu-ary 2010 and December 2014 were analyzed retrospectively,and compared with data of 30 infants with non-respira-tory diseases (control group).Results Of 60 infants with bronchitis in case group,95.00%(57/60)showed mani-festations of PE on X-ray,and 18.33% (11/60)of whom were with mild PE(apical or intercostal pneumocele), 76.67%(46/60)were with typical PE (diaphragm descent);one case (3.33%)in control group showed intercostal pneumocele,the other 29 cases (96.67%)were normal X-ray findings and without signs of PE.The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of PE signs on chest X-ray film for diagnosing infantile bronchitis were 95.00%,96.67%, and 95.56% respectively.Conclusion Signs of PE on chest X-ray film have important diagnosis value for infantile bronchitis.

Effects of Jinma Tongluo capsule (JT C) on the incidence of micronucleu s of marrow cells in mice with Kunming species were reported. JTC intragastric d osages of 100 mg/kg, 400 mg/kg, 1600 mg/kg (equivalent to 3, 12 and 48 times of the clinical dosage respectively) were given to the mice.Twenty-four hours later th e mice were e xecuted and the marrow cells were examined. The incidence of micronucleus was 2 .00‰, 1.83‰, 2.17‰ respectively. In the group of dosage of 1600 mg/kg, the inci dence was maintained in the normal limits within 12～72h. And the differences we r e not significant as compared with the negative group and the solvent control gr oup. It's indicated that ig total alkalin of Flos Daturae under 0.86 mg/kg has no effect on micronucleus of mice marrow cells.

OBJECTIVE:To compare therapeutic efficacy and safety of laparoscopy combined with dienogest and laparoscopy combined with dienogest and TCM in the treatment of endometriosis. METHODS:126 endometriosis patients were selected and divid-ed into control group and observation group,with 63 cases in each group. Control group received combined with dienogest(25 mg/time,qd);observation group was additionally given TCM on the basis of control group. Therapeutic efficacy,recovery time of ovula-tion,menstrual recovery time and ADR were compared between 2 groups,and recurrence and pregnancy of them were followed up for 2 years. RESULTS:The total effective rate of observation group (93.65%) was significantly higher than that of control group (80.96%),with statistical significance (P<0.05). The menstrual recovery time and recovery time of ovulation in observation group were significantly shorter than control group,with statistical significance (P<0.05). The incidence of ADR in observation group (9.52%)was significantly lower than control group(26.98%),with statistical significance(P<0.05);the recurrence rate of observa-tion group (4.76%) was significantly lower than that of control group (17.46%),with statistical significance (P<0.05). In 2-year follow-up,there were 23 pregnancy patients in observation group,which was significantly higher than that of control group (9 cas-es),with statistical significance (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS:Laparoscopy combined with dienogest and TCM in the treatment of endometriosis have better clinical effect,higher safety and lower recurrence rate. The patients are easily pregnant.

AIM To investigate the effects of Tongluo Xingnao Effervescent Tablets (Chuanxiong Rhizoma,Angelicae sinensis Radix and Scutellariae Radix) on the learning and memory function in SAMP8 mice,and improvements in cognitive function.METHODS Morris water maze was used to evaluate the change of cognitive function in SAMP8 mice after they were treated with Tongluo Xingnao Effervescent Tablets for 60 d,and the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD),the concentration of protein carbonyls (PC),the ratio of NAD +/NADH in brain tissue were detected by ELISA,the expression of Nampt,SIRT1 and FOXO3 in hippocampus were measured with immunohistochemical methods.RESULTS Tongluo Xingnao Effervescent Tablets shortened escape latency and obviously increased percentage of time in target quadrant in hidden platform test and increased the times entering the target quadrant in spatial probe test in SAMP8 mice.It evidently enhanced the activity of SOD,the ratio of NAD +/NADH and distinctly decreased the protein carbonyls level.Moreover,Tongluo Xingnao Effervescent Tablets could markedly up-regulate the expression of Nampt and SIRT1,but evidently down-regulate FOXO3 protein expression.CONCLUSION The experimental data show that Tongluo Xingnao Effervescent Tablets can enhance the cognitive function of SAMP8 through regulating Nampt/SIRT1/FOXO3 signal pathway.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the status of traumatic infection among earthquake in order to provide reasonable evidence for anti-infective therapy. METHODS Samples were collected from 14 patients with compound fracture or osteofascial compartment syndrome for bacterial,fungal and anaerobic culturing,then according to pathogens to choose antimicrobial susceptibility test (AST). RESULTS Among 14 victims,10 had germ growth in wound secretions,the infection rate was 71.43%. Among 17 samples the bacteria,fungi and anaerobic were isolated in 12,4 and (samples,respectively),the isolated rates were 70.59%,23.53% and 5.89%. The main pathogens for the first culture were Enterobacter cloacae,coagulase negative Staphylococcus (CNS) and Acinetobacter. The Clostridium tetani and C. perfringens were all negative. We also isolated 5 strains of fungi from them 1 strain of Candida. CONCLUSIONS Most of the victims from disaster area have got bacterial infection. Most of them are combined infection,some of the infections are nosocomial infections. The key points of the treatment are to find pathogens immediately and choose a reasonable antibacterial agents according to the AST.
