6.Inhibitory effects of melatonin on breast cancer
Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2017;42(3):346-351
Melatonin has a significant inhibitory effect on various cancers, especially on breast cancer. In estrogen receptor (ER)-positive human breast cancer,anti-cancer effects ofmelatonin on breast cancer cells and transplanted tumors mainly achieve by suppressing ER mRNA expression and ER transcriptional activity via the MT1 receptor. In addition, melatonin regulates the transactivation of other members of the nuclear receptor super-family,estrogen metabolizing enzymes, and the expression of related genes.Furthermore, melatonin also suppresses tumor aerobic metabolism, critical cell-signaling pathways relevant to cell proliferation, survival, metastasis, and drug resistance.Melatonin demonstrates both cytostatic and cytotoxic activity in breast cancer cells that appears to be cell-type specific.Studies on animal and human models indicate that disruption of the circadian nocturnal melatonin signal promotes the growth, metabolism, and signaling of human breast cancer, resulting in invalid hormone therapy and chemotherapeutic resistance in breast tumors.

Objective To explore the correlation of serum ferritin (SF),fibrinogen(FIB) and D-dimer levels in patients with small vessel disease(SVD).Methods 359 patients with SVD were selected, including 186 patients with lacunar infarction ( LI) and 173 patients with leukoaraiosis ( LA) .176 healthy controls were enrolled in this study as control group. The SF,FIB and D-dimer concentrations were measured by radioimmunoassay method and Clauss method respectively .Results The serum levels of SF , FIB and D-dimer in SVD patients were significantly higher than those in the controls [(171.82 ±156.28)μg/L vs (100.37 ±70.11)μg/L,(3.27 ±0.93) g/L vs (2.97 ± 0.88)g/L,(1.10 ±1.06)mg/L vs (0.83 ±0.55)mg/L](all P<0.05).Compared with LI subgroup, the levels of SF,FIB and D-dimer were higher in LA subgroup [(185.22 ±108.55)μg/L vs (159.36 ±89.69)μg/L,(3.32 ± 0.86)g/L vs (3.23 ±0.99)g/L,(1.29 ±1.17)mg/L vs (1.03 ±0.80)mg/L],but the differences were not signifi-cant(all P<0.05).Multivariate regression analysis revealed that by comparison to the reference quartile ,the odds ra-tio (95%CI) for SVD patients in the higher quartile (SF>151.16μg/L,D-Dimer>1.02 mg/L) were 3.444(95%CI=2.097-5.158,P<0.001) and 1.767(95%CI=1.114-2.803,P=0.016),respectively after multivariable ad-justment.Conclusion The increased levels of SF ,FIB and D-dimer are closely related with SVD .FIB and D-dimer might come to be attractive approaches to prevent the progress of SVD .
9.Neoadjuvant systemic therapy for breast cancer
Journal of International Oncology 2013;(1):32-35
Neoadjuvant systemic therapy for breast cancer patients means systemic treatments before operations.Combination chemotherapy, endocrine therapy and targeted therapy before operation can degrade the tumor staging and increase the breast-conserving rates.Neoadjuvant chemotherapy has been accepted as one of the standard therapies for patients with locally advanced breast cancers. In the neoadjuvant setting, the studies about the use of aromatase inhibitors and trastuzumab in selected patients have also made great progresses.
10.The clinical value of liquid tumor biomarker detection for breast cancer
China Oncology 2014;(8):636-640
Circulating tumor markers have been paid more attention in the application of the treatment for breast cancer, the level of which has extended from protein to gene, including traditional tumor markers, HER-2 extracellular domain, circulating tumor cells, circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), circulating RNA (ctRNA) and so on. As “liquid detection”, the detection of circulating tumor markers with real-time dynamic, easy operation, good reproducibility and other advantages are widely used in aiding early diagnosis, determining prognosis, prospectively predicting response or resistance to speciifc therapies, surveillance after primary surgery, and monitoring therapy in patients with advanced disease, The further study of circulating tumor markers may contribute to patient’s individual treatment.
