1.Study on Adsorption Efficiency of Corncob for Nickel in Water

Objective To study the adsorption capability of corncob for Ni2+ in water. Methods The tests were conducted on the factors including pH value, the initial concentration of Ni2+, adsorption time, temperature and absorbent dosage influencing the adsorption effect, and the adsorption capability of the desorbing corncob for Ni2+ in water compared with the fresh corncob. Results In the condition of 35 ℃, 0.1 g of corncobs, 20 ml of 10 mg/L Ni2+ solution, pH=6 and contact time of 2.5 h, the adsorption capacity of Ni2+ could be up to 1.6 mg/g. The adsorption data fit the Freundlich adsorption isotherm and the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. HCl could be used to desorb corncobs ladening Ni2+, the desorbed corncob had the same adsorption capacity and rate of the desorbing as the fresh corncob. Conclusion The corncob can effectively remove Ni2+ in water, and the desorbed corncob can be reused.
2.Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Resection of Posterior Mediastinal Benign Neurogenic Tumors:An Analysis of 40 Cases

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic value of video-assisted thoracoscopy in treating posterior mediastinal benign neurogenic tumors.Methods From May 1994 to May 2006,40 patients received thoracoscopic resection of posterior mediastinal benign neurogenic tumor.Double lumen endotrocheal intubation was applied and 3 trocars were placed according to the location of the tumor.A mini-incision was used if the tumor was too large to be safely resected.Results The complete resections were successfully finished in 34 cases while the remaining 6 cases needed a 6 cm mini-incision to complete the surgery.Pathological examination showed 20 cases of neurilemoma,14 cases of neurofibroma,and 6 cases of paraganglioma.The average diameter of these tumors was 4.7 cm(range:2-12 cm).The average thoracic drainage time was 2.2 days(1-7 days).And the average postoperative hospital stay was 4.8 days(3-13 days).Only 2 cases experienced minor complications.There was no death in this study.The time of follow-up was 9 months to 12 years,in which 16 cases were followed for less than 3 years,12 cases for 3-5 years and 7 cases for over 5 years,5 cases lost contact.Only one patient received re-resection due to local recurrence.Conclusions Video-assisted thoracoscopic resection of posterior mediastinal benign neurogenic tumor is safe,reliable and minimally invasive,and can thus be regarded as the therapy of first choice.

4.Influence of β-catenin small interfering RNA on human osteosarcoma cells.

This study examined the effect of small interfering RNA-mediated β-catenin knockdown on the survival, invasion and chemosensitivity of human osteosarcoma cells (U2-OS cells). The siRNA against β-catenin was constructed and transfected into U2-OS cells. The expression of β-catenin was detected by qRT-PCR and Western blotting. Cell growth and apoptosis was detected in the presence or absence of doxorubicin by MTT and flow cytometry, respectively. Cell invasion ability was measured by transwell assay. The results showed that the transfection of β-catenin siRNA resulted in decreased expression of β-catenin, suppression of invasion and motility of U2-OS cells, reduced chemosensitivity to doxorubicin in vitro, and little change in cell growth and apoptosis. Additionally, down-regulated MT1-MMP expression was found after transfection. It was concluded that knockdown of β-catenin gene may decrease the invasive ability of human osteosarcoma cells through down-regulated MT1-MMP expression, and the chemosensitivity of osteosarcoma cells against doxorubicin.

OBJECTIVE To compare modified Kane/Fischer system and PCR method in identification for Trichophyton rubrum.METHODS Using modified Kane/Fischer system and TR1F and TR1R primers to identify 32 strains of dermatophytes.RESULTS The modified Kane/Fischer system and PCR could rapidly and stably(identify) T.rubrum.CONCLUSIONS The two methods can be used as the standard system to identify T.rubrum.
6.Injury of ~(125)Ⅰ seeds implants to trachea and esophagus of rabbits

Objective To evaluate the impact of 1125 seeds para-tracheal braehytherapy on regional tissue injury in rab-bit models. Methods 42 rabbits were randomized into 7 groups. Group 1 to 6 belong to study groups (in which 1,4,5 and 6 belong to "dose gradient" subgroup, while 2,3 and 4 to "chronologic" subgroup) , while the last group acts as negative con-trol. The activity of seeds in study group were 0.3 mCi in group 1, 0.5 mCi in group 2 to 5, 0.7 mCi in group 5, and 0.9mCi in group 6. False seeds (0 mCi) were used for the negative control. 4 seeds with equal dosage were implanted between trachea and esophagus in each rabbit under general anesthesia. Seeds arrangement was made according to Paris principle. For the tissue injury evaluation, group 2 was sacrificed by the end of first month post-operatively, group 3 at the end of the second month, and group 4 end of the third month. The rest of rabbits were also sacrificed at the end of the third month. Pieces of adjacent e-sophagus and trachea were sampled from each rabbit. Tissue injury features such as inflammation, edema, congestion or fibrosis as evaluated histologically. Results All rabbits were healthy during study period except 5. Histological analysis revealed that trachea samples from all groups had lymphocytas and plasma cells infiltration as signs of chronic inflammation, hut fibrosis was nut clearly visible. There were no differences between study and control groups with respect to inflammation, edema and con-gestion scores. But in groups which received the highest doses of radiation or sacrificed at 60 d showed more eosinophil infiltra-tion and epithelum degeneration, and statistical significance was reached between these groups and control. Esophageal samples had less histological changes compared with trachea. Conclusion Para-tracheal implantation of ~(125)Ⅰ seeds with therapeutic or higher dosage only induce minor and reversible damage to the regional tissue. This implies that ~(125)Ⅰ implants adjacent to trachea or esophagus are clinically safe.
7.The feature and treatment of kidney stones and acute renal failure in children associated with infant formula adulterated with melamine

Objective To explore the feature and the optimal treatment of kidney stones in children associ-ated with infant formula which had been aduherated with melamine.Method Total of 47 cases of urinary stone and 31 cases of acute renal failure caused by urinary multiple obstruction in children associated with infant formula which had been adulterated with mlelamine in Beijing Children's Hospital University of Medical Science,form Jan-uary to November,2008 were retrospectively analyzed.Results Infant formula which had been adultemted with melamine may lead to kindey stones in 15 days.The mean age was 11-month and the ratio of male to female was 2.6:1.The kindey stones were usually multiple and mostly located either in the ureteropelvic junction or all through the ureter.In the view of the renal function resuming duration,there was no statistic difference among the acute renal failure group,operation group and the conservative group(P=0.683~0.846).In children with uri-nary obstruction and acute renal failure,hemedialysis or peritoneal dialysis was performed.83.9%were relieved by posting catheter through panedoseope and blood purification.100% of the patients resumed normal renal func-tion.81.3% of the patients without acute renal failure had recovered after conservative therapies such as infusion.Conclusions The patients associated with infant formula which had been adulterated with melamine were Usually little infants.Male were more vulnerable than female.Most of them had recovered smoothly and the renal function resumed normal after effcient therapies.
8.An important factor for cage retropulsion after lumbar interbody fusion——the injury of the posterior part of endplate cranial-adjacent to fusion

Objective To investigate causes and treatment strategy of cage retropulsion after lumbar interbody fusion,in particular the correlations between the injury of the posterior part of endplate cranially adjacent to fusion and cage retropulsion.Methods Data of 7 patients with cage migration after lumbar interbody fusion from August 2011 to July 2014 in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed.There were 4 males and 3 females,aged from 45-74 years (average,53.6 years).All patients took X-ray and CT scans examinations 3 d postoperatively,and they were followed up at 3,6,12 months after operation.The characteristics of the patients and the injury of the endplate adjacent to fusion were analyzed to identify possible risk factors of cage retropulsion.Moreover,corresponding managements were performed and outcomes were recorded.Results All 7 cases of cage retropulsion occurred within 3 months post-operatively (rang,15-67 d).Posterior part of the endplate superiorly neighboring to fusion was found injured on the decompression side in all cases with cage retropulsion,and that led to an increase in the posterior intervertebral space height at the fusion segment.Other factors,including pear-shape type endplate,and improper operative manipulations may add the risk of cage retropulsion.These 7 patients complained mild back pain or no back pain,and received corresponding treatments including bed rest,activity limitation,and oral administration of anti-inflammatory analgesics.The clinical symptoms and degrees of cage retropulsion were not aggravated during follow-up.Conclusion The injury of the posterior margin of end-plate superiorly neighboring to fusion on the decompression side which caused increased posterior intervertebral space height may be key to postoperative cage retropulsion.Prevention of possible iatrogenic injury to the endplate may be effective to reduce the risk of cage retropulsion.
9.Effects of 860 MHz electromagnetic radiation on dual task eyeblink conditioning in guinea pigs

Objective To observe the effects of 860 MHz microwave radiation on an established dual task model of trace and delay eyeblink conditioning in guinea pigs.Methods Twenty-four guinea pigs with an established dual task model of trace and delay eyeblink conditioning were assigned randomly into four groups : a microwave-exposed 1 h group, a microwave-exposed 20 min group, a sham-exposed group and a normal control group.The guinea pigs in the 1 h and 20 min groups were irradiated on the head daily for 3 days using 860 MHz electromagnetic radiation at a power density of 1 mW/cm2 for 1 h and for 20 min, respectively. After radiation the guinea pigs were trained with classical dual task eyeblink conditioning.Results Compared with the normal control group, the behavioral parameters (acquisition rate and peak amplitude of trace and delay eyeblink) of guinea pigs in the microwave-exposed 1 h group had decreased significantly with no obvious change in latency. The behavioral parameters of guinea pigs in the microwave-exposed 20 min group, the sham-exposed group and the normal control group showed no obvious change.Conclusions Microwave radiation at 860 MHz and 1.0 mW/cm2 for 1 h can cause changes in dual trace and delay eyeblink conditioning in guinea pigs and decrease learning and memory capacity.
10.Analysis of complicated procedure of completely thoracoscopic lobectomy

Objective Summarize 58 cases with complicated primary lung cancer that accepted completely thoracoscopic lobectomy procedure in People's Hospital of Peking University,to evaluate the procedure of completely thoracoscopic lobectomy in these complicated cases.Methods Between Sep 2006 and Jun 2011,58 cases accepted completely thoracoscopic lobetomy were reviewed.34 male,24 female,aged (59.2 ± 11.4) years.The maximal diameter of solid tumors was(5.50 ± 2.92 )cm.The complicated condition including ①maximal diameter of solid tumor ≥5 cm ; ② Compound lobectomy; ③ post newadjuvant chemotherapy; ④ tummor invased portion of chest wall.The main procedure including three main components:①multiple devices co-operation through a single incision; ② Separate the fissure liketunnel style ; ③ cutting off bronchial artery priority to all step of lobectomy.Results All procedures were carried out smoothly with no death or serious complication.The average surgical duration was( 215.6 ± 60.9 ) min,and average blood loss was ( 271.0 ± 188.3 ) ml.The median postoperative chest tube drainage duration was(8.0 ± 4.7 ) d,and median postoperative hospital stay was ( 11.3 ± 5.9 ) d.There were 14 cases (24.1% ) of conversion to open thoracotomy and 7 cases ( 12.1% ) of complications.① There were 34 cases that maximal diameter of solid tumor was ≥5 cm,The average maximal diameter of tumors was( 6.7 ± 2.3) cm,The average surgical duration was( 206.6 ± 49.3 ) min,and average blood loss was (277.1 ± 194.4 ) ml.The median postoperative chest tube drainage duration was (8.3 ± 4.2 ) d,and median postoperative hospital stay was ( 11.9 ± 6.2 ) d.There were 8 cases (23.5%) of conversion to open thoracotomy and 6 cases ( 17.6 % ) complications; ②There were 16 cases of Compound lobectomy,The average maximal diameter of tumors was(4.2 ± 3.4 ) cm,The average surgical duration was (213.8 ± 70.0 )min,and average blood loss was(235.6 ± 139.2 ) ml.The median postoperative chest tube drainage duration was( 8.6 ± 6.3 )d,and median postoperative hospital stay was( 12.4 ±6.0) d.There were 4 cases (25%) of conversion to open thoracotomy and 2 cases ( 12.5 % ) complications;③There were 5 cases of VATs lobectomy that post newadjuvant chemotherapy,The average maximal diameter of tumors was(3.1 ±0.8) cm,The average surgical duration was(226.0 ±36.3 ) min,and average blood loss was(246.0 ± 219.8) ml.The median postoperative chest tube drainage duration was( 5.6 ± 1.1 ) d,and median postoperative hospital stay was( 7.4 ± 0.5 ) d.There were 2 cases (40%) of conversion to open thoracotomy and no complications; ④There were 3 cases that tumor invased portion of chest wall.The average maximal diameter of tumors was(3.0 ± 2.0)cm,The average surgical duration was(310.0 ± 105.4) min,and average blood loss was(433.3 ± 305.5 ) ml.The median postoperative chest tube drainage duration was( 5.6 ± 2.1 ) d,and median postoperative hospital stay was ( 6.6 ± 2.1 ) d.There were no conversion to open thoracotomy and complications.Conclusion As the skills and experience of thoracoscopic lobectomy improving,Some relative complexity cases and relative contraindications may become relative indications for completely thoracoscopic procedure.As long as the methods and technical processes used properly,these complicated cases of primary lung cancer does not prolong the operation time,not increase bleeding and interfere the reeovery of patients.
