1.Regulation of Hexokinase Activity by HB-EGF in Mesangial Cells
Journal of China Medical University 2001;30(2):91-93
Objective: Our aim was to study the concentrations and regulatory characteristics of heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like factor (HB-EGF) and its functional consequences in inducing the activities of hexokinases (HKs) and net Glc utilization. Methods: The SV40MES13 cell line was used as cell model for this experiment to measure the total activity of Hks by using a standard G6PDH-coupled assay. The net Glc utilization was measured indirectly as Glc disappearance from the medium using the standard Glc oxidase-coupled reaction(Trinder). Results: The HB-EGF induced HKs activity in time- and dose-dependent manners and increased the net Glc utilization by SV40MES13 cells. Conclusion: The HB-EGF plays an important role in pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy by inducing total HKs activity specifically and increases the net Glc utilization in mesangial cells.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic poses negative impacts on psychological health among healthcare workers. If timely diagnosis and interventions are not given, the pandemic not only threatens physical and psychological health among healthcare workers, and greatly reduces the quality and efficiency of medical treatment. Based on review of national and international publications pertaining to psychological problems and interventions among healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, this article describes the prevalence of psychological problems among healthcare workers, influencing factors and psychological interventions, so as to provide insights into the protection of psychological health among healthcare workers.

Tyrosine phosphorylation is a key post-translational mechanism that regulates cellular processes and maintains homeostasis.Aberrant changes in tyrosine phosphorylation are often associated with disease states such as metabolicdisorders, cancer and cardiovascular disease.Protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) are the enzyme family that regulates protein phosphorylation level of tyrosine residues in the cellular processes and signaling ways.So far, scientists have discovered 112 kinds of human PTPs.Among them,PTP1B is widely and clearly studied.Recently,as an enzyme that play a role in oncogenesis,PTP1B has been wildey studied by scientists. Here,we highlight the relationship between protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B and hematologic neoplasms.

OBJECTIVE TTo evaluate the clinical manifestations of the laryngeal amyloidosis and its laryngoscopic characteristics.METHODS The clinical data of 11 cases with laryngeal amyloidosis confirmed pathologically was studied retrospectively. RESULTS There were 4 males and 7 females in this study. The age of the patients ranged from 16 to 64 years old (average 43.36?4.16).The duration of symptoms was 4 months to 10 years (average 2.85?0.87 years).Hoarseness presented in 10 patients (90.90%) and dyspnea in 4 patients. The false vocal cord was involved in 8 patients, laryngeal ventricle in 6 patients, true vocal cord in 5 patients and subglottic area in 3 patients observed with fibrolaryngoscope. The appearance of the lesions was mainly described as waxy yellow or yellow-gray submucosal plaques and nodules without ulceration of the overlying mucosa. The laryngostroboscopy demonstrated that the wave of the mucosa and vibration of the involved vocal cords were adynamic or disappeared.CONCLUSION The chief complaint of the laryngeal amyloidosis was hoarseness. Laryngeal amyloidosis is a slowly progressive disease. The lesions commonly involve the false vocal cord, laryngeal ventricle, true vocal cord and subglottic area.

As a vital component in an overall laboratory animal care and use program , development of a disaster plan plays a critical role for every research institution .Currently, most of domestic institutions would draw up an“emergency operation plan , EOP”, but ignoring a practicable “business continuity plan , BCP” in establishing a disaster plan.In this article, we will discusse about the definition of disaster , how to set up an EOP, and how to establish a thorough BCP , in order to show an integrated and professional disaster plan in laboratory animal care and use program .

Objective To evaluate the accuracy of dual-source CT (DSCT) in diagnosing the degree of coronary artery stenosis, and compare it with coronary artery angiography (CAG).Methods One hundred patients with suspected coronary heart disease, clinical diagnosis of angina pectoris, myocardial infarction and patients after percutaneous coronary intervention, were given DSCT and CAG examination. The CAG results were considered as the reference standard, and the results of the two examinations were compared. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of DSCT in diagnosing coronary artery stenosis (mild < 50%,middle 50%-75%,severe ≥75%) were computed. Results CAG displayed coronary artery 1320 segments,DSCT displayed coronary artery 1287 segments, the appreciable rate was 97.5%.The sensitivity of DSCT in diagnosing mild, middle and severe coronary artery stenosis were 64.4% (105/163),88.7% (235/265) and 97.4% (187/192),specificity all were 99.7% (617/619),positive predictive value were 98.1% (105/107),99.2% (235/237) and 98.9% (187/189),negative predictive valne were 91.4% (617/675),95.4% (617/647) and 99.2% (617/622).There was significant correlation between DSCT and CAG in diagnosing coronary artery stenosis by Spearman test (P< 0.01).Conclusions The results of DSCT have high accordance with CAG in diagnosing coronary artery stenosis. It is a kind of non-invasive examination with low cost, and could reduce the pain of invasive examination. So DSCT is a good choice in diagnosing coronary artery disease.

Objective To study the effect of minielctrocholecystectomy(MEC) for gallbladder stone. Methods The clinical data of 4,200 cases(1991-2000) undergoing MEC were analysed restrospectively; the results of different operotors for the MEC were compared. Results All 4,200 cases were cured. Of them, 41 cases(0.98%) had serious complications, including intraoperative bleeding in 4 cases(0.09%), biliary tract injury in 18(0.43%); stress ulcer in 8(0.19%), and residual stones of biliary tract in 11(0.26%). Conclusions MEC has the following advantages: less trauma, short operation time, fast postoperative recovery and lower expense. The different operotors on MEC have distinguish difference in the results. It is important to preven the complications of MEC.

Objective To study the effect of stigma maydis aqueous extract(SMAE) on glucagon in type 2 diabetic rats. Methods Type 2 diabetic male Sprague-Dawley rat mode was induced by high-fat and high-sugar dietary feeds and low dose streptozotocin(STZ). After 8 weeks of treatment, levels of fasting blood glucose(FBG) and glucagon(Glu) in serum were respectively assayed.Immunohistocmical study was adopted to analyze the expression of glucagon in islet cells. Results Compared with model control group,SMAE of middle and high dose remarkably reduced the level of FBG and Glu(P

Objective To investigate the possible mechanisms of fasudil on acute myocardial infarction (AMI)by observing the changes of hemorheology and inflammatory factors. Methods 120 patients diagnosed AMI in our hospital were randomly divided into the two groups:60 cases in the control group were given the conventional treat-ment and the other 60 cases in the treatment group were added fasudil for 2 weeks based on that. Then we analyzed the changes of hemorheology and inflammatory factors. Results 2 weeks later, the whole blood restore viscosity, plasma viscosity,CRP,IL -1β,IL -6 and TNF -βin the two groups were all obviously decreased than those of before(P <0.05),while,packed cell volume in the treatment group was obviously decreased as well (P <0.05).Furthermore, the changes in the treatment group were more significant compared with the controlled group (P <0.05).Conclusion Fasudil intervention on AMI can improve the situation of hemorheology and relieve the inflammation more effectively than conventional treatment.
