To compare the diagnostic value of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (sICAM-1) with that of c-reactive protein (CRP) for detecting chorioamnionitis (CAM) in serum of women with premature rupture of membranes (PROM), 55 pregnant women with PROM, including 18 pregnant women with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) and 20 normal pregnant women at term (TPROM) were studied. Maternal serum were measured by Sandwish enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay (ELISA) for sICAM. CAM was histologically confirmed after delivery. The results revealed that (1) maternal serum levels of sICAM-1 and CRP were significantly higher in women with PROM than those without it; (2) maternal serum levels of sICAM-1 and CRP were significantly higher in women with CAM than those without it; (3) serum levels of sICAM-1 in PPROM women were similar to those in TPROM women, whereas serum levels of CRP in PPROM women were significantly higher than those in TPROM women; (4) the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, Kappa index and area under receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of maternal serum sICAM-1 (cutoff 104.7 ng/ml) and CRP (cutoff 1.03 mg/dl) for diagnosing CAM were 100%, 91.2%, 87.5%, 100%, 0.20, 0.995 and 81.0%, 73.5%, 65.4%, 86.2%, 0.13, 0.811, respectively; (5) among the mild histological CAM group, severe histological CAM group and clinical CAM group, the difference in maternal serum levels of sICAM-1 were significantly (P<0.001), with the order of concentration from high level to low level corresponding to the severity of CAM. It is concluded that maternal serum level of ICAM-1 is superior to that of CRP as biomarker for diagnosing intraamniotic infection in pregnant women with PROM.

Chinese Journal of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Diseases 2015;33(10):735-738
OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship between the quality of life (QOL) and disability level in patients with occupational disease and to investigate the influencing factors for QOL.
METHODSA total of 255 patients with occupational disease were selected from three specialized hospitals dedicated to occupational disease and the department of occupational medicine of one comprehensive hospital using cluster sampling from December 2013 to May 2014. A survey was carried out using WHOQOL-BREF and general questionnaire (including disability level), and statistical analysis was also performed using t test, F test, analysis of variance, and multivariate stepwise regression analysis.
RESULTSThe QOL scores of patients with occupational diseases, from high to low, were social domain (11.48 ± 2.86), psychological domain (10.60 ± 2.28), physiological domain (10.54 ± 1.65), and environmental domain (10.50 ± 2.55), scores of which were significantly lower than the normal levels (P<0.05). QOL showed no significant differences between patients with occupational diseases of different disability levels (P>0.05). Also, QOL showed no significant differences between stage I, II and III patients with pneumoconiosis (P>0.05). The patients with pneumoconiosis were divided into mild, moderate, and severe groups, and the QOL scores of patients with mild pneumoconiosis in psychological and environmental domains were significantly higher than those of the patients with moderate or severe pneumoconiosis (P< 0.05). Patients with occupational poisoning was divided into mild, moderate and severe groups, and the three groups showed no significant differences in QOL score (P>0.05). Multivariate regression analysis showed that the QOL score of each domain was mainly influenced by the degree of lung injury, complications, course of disease, age of onset, income, and employment status.
CONCLUSIONThe QOL of patients with occupational disease is significantly reduced, and disability level cannot accurately reflect their QOL. The treatment of patients with occupational disease should focus on their complications, and at the same time QOL should also be improved.

Chinese Journal of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Diseases 2014;32(2):112-114
OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship between occupational stress and depression in migrant workers.
METHODSMigrant workers in the textile industry were selected as subjects, and the self-made Occupational Stress Questionnaire and Self-rating Depression Scale were used to investigate the sex, age, seniority, educational level, and marital status of these subjects. Data analysis was performed by independent-samples t test, analysis of variance, Spearman rank correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.
RESULTSSex, seniority, and educational level were not influential factors for depression scores. The lower age group had a higher moderate depression score than the higher age group; the unmarried group had a higher moderate depression score than the married group. Severe depression was negatively correlated with decision-making power, psychological job demands, social support, and external pay-return, but positively correlated with skills and internal input; moderate depression was positively correlated with psychological job demands and external pay, but negatively correlated with other factors; mild depression was negatively correlated with all factors. The stepwise regression analysis showed that the influential factors for depression included, from major to minor, supervisor support, skills, internal input, and colleague support, according to the standardized regression coefficients; internal input was the contribution factor, and the remaining ones were negative factors.
CONCLUSIONAmong migrant workers, certain mental health problems exist, and occupational stress is associated with depression.
