Objective To evaluate the correlation between periodontitis and life style. Methods By using randomized cluster sampling method,2990 health check-up receivers were enrolled in this cross sectional survey from September 2007 to September 2008. The participants were requested to fill in a questionnaire to assess community periodontal index and synthesis grades. Multiple linear regression was used for data analysis. Results Gender (P = 0. 000) , age (P = 0. 000 ) , educational level ( P = 0. 001) , smoking (P = 0.011 ) and duration of teeth brush ( P = 0.026 ) were positively correlated with periodontitis. However, periodontitis showed no relationship with alcohol consumption, food intake, daily activity, frequency of teeth brush, periodontal bleeding. Conclusion Periodontitis is a condition with multiple risk factors. Improving life style may help to prevent general population from periodontitis.

Secondary glaucoma is a kind of complications after vitrectomy, its etiologies are various and complex. Ineffective therapies might cause irreversible damage on optic nerves and visual field defect, even the loss in visual function. Nowadays, this project has been paid great attention by various researches both in China and abroad. Both the pathogens and therapies of secondary glaucoma after vitrectomy are analyzed as follows.

Objective To investigate the management and control of hypertension in patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD) and its associated factors. Methods Data of 726in-patients with CKD and hypertension who hospitalized in our hospital from March 2009 to April 2010 were studied. Results 91.74% of patients was treated with antihypertensive medications, and 21.21%, 22.59%, 19.56%, 28.37% of patients received 1, 2, 3, ≥4 antihypertensive drugs,respectively.42.4% of patients with CKD and hypertension could be controlled up to the standard, and the mean blood pressure was(137.86±20.75)/(76.30±11.35) mm Hg.There was significant difference among stage 1 plus 2, 3, 4 plus 5 (non-dialysis), 5 (dialysis) kidney diseases, with the hypertension control rate being 50.8%, 46.7%, 42.0%, 33.5%, respectively. The hypertension control rate of non-dialysis patients was significantly higher than that of dialysis (44.9% vs 33.5%,P<0.05).There was no significant difference between blood dialysis group and peritoneal dialysis group(32.3% vs 38.7%, P>0.05).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that female (OR=1.787, 95%CI 1.045-3.056)and ACEI application (OR=4.378, 95%CI1.830-10.472) were positively associated with hypertension control.Whereas, diabetes (OR=0.415, 95%CI 0.188-0.919)and pulse pressure (OR =0.847, 95% CI 0.811-0.885) were associated with inadequate blood pressure control.ConclusionsDespite almost universal hypertension treatment is used in patients with CKD and high blood pressure, the hypertension control rate is still suboptimal.Female and ACEI are positively associated with adequate hypertension control, whereas diabetes and pulse pressure are negatively associated with the standard.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the awareness and use of banned pesticides among vegetable greenhouse farmers in a town of Ledu County, Qinghai Province, China and to provide a basis for the management and control of banned pesticides.
METHODSLocal residents who lived in a town of Ledu County for more than 5 years were selected as subjects in August 2012. A questionnaire survey was conducted in 267 vegetable greenhouse farmers who were selected from five villages of the town by cluster random sampling.
RESULTSOf the 267 subjects, 249 (93.26%) completed and returned the questionnaires. Eighty-seven (34.9%) of the 249 subjects were aware of banned pesticides, and the banned pesticide awareness rate varied significantly among the subjects with different education levels (χ(2) = 11.061, P = 0.011). Only education level entered the regression equation in non-conditional logistic regression analysis. Only five (2.0%) of the 249 subjects knew the banned pesticides as well as the details. All the 249 subjects used banned pesticides to varying degrees in the past 5 years. Only 9.0% (17/189) of the vegetable greenhouse farmers knew the time pesticides were initially banned in China.
CONCLUSIONThe banned pesticide awareness rate is relatively low in the town of Ledu County, and this rate is influenced by education level. It is needed to spread the knowledge and hazards of banned pesticides.

Carnosol has been proved to have anti-breast cancer effect in previous research. But its ER subtype's specific regulation and mediation mechanisms remain unclear. The aim of this study is to observe the effect of carnosol on cell proliferation and its estrogen receptor α and β's specific regulation and mediation mechanisms with ER positive breast cancer T47D cell. With estrogen receptor α and β antagonists MPP and PHTPP as tools, the MTT cell proliferation assay was performed to observe the effect of carnosol on T47D cell proliferation. The changes in the T47D cell proliferation cycle were detected by flow cytometry. The effect of carnosol on ERα and ERβ expressions of T47D cells was measured by Western blot. The findings showed that 1 x 10(-5)-1 x 10(-7) mol x L(-1) carnosol could significantly inhibit the T47D cell proliferation, which could be enhanced by MPP or weakened by PHTPP. Meanwhile, 1 x 10(-5) mol x L(-1) or 1 x 10(-6) mol x L(-1) carnosol could significantly increase ERα and ERβ expressions of T47D cells, and remarkably increase ERα/ERβ ratio. The results showed that carnosol showed the inhibitory effect on the proliferation of ER positive breast cancer cells through target cell ER, especially ERβ pathway. In the meantime, carnosol could regulate expressions and proportions of target cell ER subtype ERα and ERβ.

Acta Academiae Medicinae Sinicae 2006;28(5):717-720
OBJECTIVETo observe the changes of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) activities in pulmonary fibrosis rats.
METHODSEighty male SD rats were randomly divided into sham group (n = 40) and bleomycin group (BLM, n = 40), in which SD rats were injected with a single intratracheal dose of sham saline or bleomycin respectively. On day 1, 3, 7, 14, and 28 following bleomycin or saline instillation, rats were randomly killed, and serum from abdominal aorta, alveolar fluid from the bronchoalveolar lavage, and the lung homogenate were collected and then stored at -80 degrees C. MMPs activity was determined by zymography.
RESULTSCompared with sham group, the levels of MMP-9 in all samples were augmented. MMP-9 activities in the serum were highest on day 3 than those on day 1 and day 7, and in lung tissue homogenate were highest on day 7; however, no significant differences were found between BLM group and sham group on day 14 and day 28; and that of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) was highest on day 7 than those on day 1 and day 14, while no significant difference existed between BLM group and sham group on day 28. Serum MMP-2 level did not change from day 1 to day 28, while the level of BALF MMP-2 began to increase after day 14, even on day 28. Lung tissue homogenate MMP-2 level began to increase early on day 3 and continued to day 28.
CONCLUSIONThe sources and effects of MMP-2 and MMP-9 differ in BLM-induced rat pulmonary fibrosis.
