Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2004;0(12):-
Objective To explore the value of electroneurophysiological detection in diagnosis of children progressive muscular dystrophy (PMD).Methods The clinical features and laboratory data were analyzed in 32 children with PMD ,and electromyography(EMG) and nerve conduction velocity(NCV) were performed.Parameters studied included spontaneous activity , duration and amplitude of motor unit potential(MUP),pattern of recruitment as strong contracting, sensory conduction velocity(SCV),motor conduction velocity(MCV), distal latency and distal amplitude. Results The abnormality rates of spontaneous potentials was 49.2% and 80.9% in tibialis anterior. The decrease of duration of MUP was 29.7%-62.4%.Amplitude of strong contracting was significantly decreased. There were different from those in normal children(P

Objective To study the individualized dose of warfarin in treating atrial fibrillation in elderly patients. Methods Forty-one elderly in-patients with atrial fibrillation were recruited.Warfarin was used tO start anti-coagulation therapy with the target INR value 1.6-2.5.The data of demographic variables, concomitant diseases, medications and laboratory values were collected, then correlated these factors with the maintenance dose of warfarin. Results Warfarin dose requirements were significantly associated with age(r=-0.535,P<0.01),sex(r=-0.494,P<0.01),height (r=0.484,P<0.01),weight(r=0.453,P<0.01),body surface area(r=0.388,P<0.05),concomitant use of a sulfonylurea medication(r=-0.446,P<0.01)and serum albumin level(r=0.520,P<0.01).The multivariate regression model includedthe variables of age, sex, serum albumin level and concomitant use of a sulfonylurea medication. This algorithm explained 65.4%of the variance in the maintenance dose of warfarin(R=0.808,R2=65.4%). Conclusions The warfarin dose in treating atrial fibrillation in elderly patients can be estimated from demographic, clinical and laboratory factors that can be obtained at the time of warfarin initiation.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) with branch-foundation acupoint combination on the indices regarding pituitary-target gland axis in aging rats with yang deficiency, so as to explore its regulating mechanism on aging rats with yang deficiency.
METHODSForty healthy Sprague-Dawley female rats were randomly divided into a normal control group, a model group, an EA group and an EA control group, 10 rats in each group. Except the normal control group, the rats in the rest 3 groups were all treated with subcutaneous injection of D-galactose for 40 d, followed by intramuscular injection of hydrocortisone for 7 d to establish aging model with yang deficiency. After the successful establishment of model, the EA group was treated with EA at "Guanyuan" (CV 4), "Housanli" (ST 36) and "Baihui "(GV 20) while the EA control group was treated with EA at "Zhongji" (CV 3) "Yinlingquan" (SP 9) and "Yintang" (GV 29); the rats in the normal control group and model group were immobilized and fixed during the same time period. The treatments were given 6 times per week totally for 4 weeks. With radiation immunity analysis method, the 8 biological indices of pituitary-target gland axis, including thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), triiodothyronine (T3), tetraiodothyronine-4 (T4), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), corticosterone (CORT), estradiol (E2), luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were detected to observe the changes of their content.
RESULTSCompared with the normal control group, the serum level of TSH, T3, T4 and E2 were reduced in the model group (P<0.05, P< 0.01) while those of ACTH, CORT, FSH and LH were increased (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the serum level of TSH, T3, T4 and E2 were increased in the EA group (P<0.05, P<0.01) while those of ACTH, CORT, FSH and LH were significantly reduced (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the EA control group, the content of TSH was increased in the EA group without statistical significance (P>0.05), that of T3, T4 and E2 was increased (all P<0.05) and that of ACTH, CORT, FSH and LH was significantly reduced (all P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe electroacupuncture with branch-foundation acupoint combination has benign regulating effects on the key hormones of pituitary-target gland axis, which could effectively improve the dysfunction of pituitary-target gland axis that is caused by aging with yang deficiency; the efficacy of electroacupuncture with branch-foundation acupoint combination is superior to that of adjacent control acupoint combination.

Chinese Traditional Patent Medicine 1992;0(08):-
AIM: To investigate the influence of Astragalus Injection on morphology, cell cycle and oxidative stress of rat's glomerular mesangial cells(GMC) cultured with advanced glycation end products(AGEs). METHODS: GMC were incubated in culture medium containing AGEs in the presence of Astragalus Injection and aminoguanidin for 48 h.At the same time, the normal and control groups were established. Then the cultured GMC was stained by mixed fluorescence liquid and observed under fluorescence microscope.Cell cycle of GMC was analyzed using flowcytometry. The activity of SOD、MDA and GSH-PX in GMC supernatant were measured by test kit.The level of ROS was detected by flowcytometry. RESULTS: Morphology analysis showed that the morphology and structure of normal GMC were normal. The structure of most cells in AGEs was unclear, cell counts increased markedly and they grew intensively.Cell cycle analysis showed that cell percentage of S phase increased and G_0/G_1 reduced. The level of ROS,MDA remarkably increased, and SOD,GSHPX activity reduced.Whereas Astragalus Injection was added, cell morphology tended to be basically normal and cell counts decreased, the percentage of S phase also decreased. The level of ROS,MDA and the SOD,GSH-PX activity restored in comparison with the control groups. CONCLUSION: Astragalus Injection can prevent GMC from lesion caused by AGEs.Astragalus Injection may protect GMC from retarding the progression of diabetic nepropathy by partially inhibiting the occurrence of oxidative stress.

AIM: To study ethanol influence on gene mutations of HBV DNA and to offer testimony for clinical diagnosis and treatment of chronic hepatitis B.METHODS: 85 patients with chronic hepatitis B were divided into alcoholic group and non-alcoholic group.Gene chip technique was used to detect gene mutations located in Pre-C nt G1896A and nt A1814C,basal core promoter(BCP) nt A1762T and nt G1764A,P nt C528A and nt T552C.RESULTS: The mutation frequency on BCP nt A1762T and nt G1764A in alcoholic group was significantly higher than that in non-alcoholic group(P0.05).CONCLUSION: Ethanol stimulates HBV gene mutations on BCP nt A1762T and nt G1764A,enhances HBV DNA replication and gene expression, deteriorates the state of the illness.
