Objective To establish the method and assess the safety, feasibility and clinical efficacies of percutaneous transhepaticcontrast-enhancedcholangio-ultrasonography(PTCECUS).Methods Twenty-one patients aged(58.5±16.65)years(range 27-93)with biliary obstruction or stricture underwent percutaneous transhepatic cholangiodrainage or ch01ecystodrainage.A dose of more than 50 ml of 0.94% Sono Vue(Bracco,Itay)solution was injected into their bile ducts(n=17)and cholecysts(n=4)through the drainage catheter.Their biliary tracts, cholecysts and duodenums were scanned under contrast pulsed sequencing mode(CPS,Sequoia 512,Siemens)to achieve related contrast-enhanced ultrasonograms.Severity of biliary obstruction were assessed according to the PTCECUS findingswith a comparison toconventionalultrasonography(CVUS),magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography(MRCP)and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography(PTC)in a part of the patients.Results①PTCECUS gave rise to good-quality contrast-enhanced uhrasonograms of biliary tracts.②PTCECUS was superior to CVUS and in consistence with MRCP and PTC in evaluating the severity of biliary tract obstruction. This method helped to make a proper design for biliary drainage.③PTCECUS was more efficient than PTC in that PTC had the patients receive transhepatic puncture and cholangiography in separated departments.④Neither any complications immediate from transhepatic puncture and administration of SonoVue inall the 21 patients, nor those 1 to 8 months late during ultrasound follow up in 14 patients were found. Conclusions PTCECUS,characterized in bettering the display of biliary tracts, especially the severity of obstruction of biliary tracts,is safe through the procedure and valuable in supervising biliary drainage against obstructive jaundice.

Objective To study the MRI findings of HE and the pathological mechanism and to improve the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of HE. Methods Five patients of HE diagnosed by clinical and laboratory examination were examined with conventional MRI scan. Additional DWI, MRA and enhancement MRI scan were performed on 3 patients in which abnormal findings was detected on the conventional MRI. The distribution of lesions and signal characteristics were analyzed. The ADC values of the lesions and of the contralateral non-lesion area were measured. Moreover, the possible pathological mechanisms of HE were discussed on the basis of changes of clinical and imaging manifestations in the two cases with serial clinical and MRI data. Results Of 5 patients, brain abnormalities were found in 3 cases, which showed scattered spotted supratentorial white matter lesions of isointensity on T1 WI and DWI, and high signal intensity on T2WI and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR). Meanwhile, multiple plaque-like lesions involving both white matter and gray matter were found, mainly located at the basal ganglia nuclei, hippocampus and cingulate cortex. The lesions demonstrated iso-or hypo-intensity on T1 WI,and iso-or hyper-intensity on T2 WI, FIAIR and DWI at the initial stage. No enhancement was found in these lesions and MRA disclosed no remarkable findings. The ADC value of the lesions [ (0. 449 ± 0. 092) ×10-3 mm2/s] was decreased significantly compared with the contralateral noninvolved area [ (0. 838 ±0. 062) × 10-3 mm2/s] at the early onset. In 2 cases with glucocorticoid therapy, together with symptom relief, MRI follow-up scan demonstrated the reduction of lesion volume, the signal change to hyperintensity on T1 WI and hypo-intensity on DWL The ADC of the lesions increased significantly. Conclusion The MRI could be one of the effective tools for diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and judging the prognosis and therapeutic results of HE. Meanwhile, it may be a non-invasive method to study the pathological mechanism of HE.

Objective: To explore the effect of different selenium sources on the function of humoral immunity and antioxidant capacity of rabbits. Method: Thirty-five rabbits were randomly divided into seven groups and vaccinated with rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD) dead vaccine. At the same time, rabbits were injected respectively with sodium selenite (0.1 mg/kg bw and 0.3 mg/kg bw), Kappa-selenocanageenan (0.1 mg/kgbw and 0.3 mg/kg bw), DL-selenomethionine (0.1 mg/kg bw and 0.3 mg/kg bw) and physiological saline as control. Antibody against RHD, activity of GSH-Px and content of MDA in rabbit serum were detected on 0, 10, 20, 30d after inoculation. Results: Sodium selenite (0.1 mg/kg bw), Kappa- selenocanageenan (0.3 mg/kg), and DL-selenomethionine (0.3mg/kg bw) could significantly increase the level of RHD antibody. Sodium selenite (0.3 mg/kg bw) and Kappa-selenocanageenan (0.3mg/kg bw) improved the activity of GSH-Px. All selenium groups could decrease serum MDA, but Kappa-selenocanageenan (0.3 mg/kg bw) showed the best effect. Conclusion: Kappa-selenocanageenan (0.3 mg/kg bw) was better than the lower dosage and other selenium sources in the effects on the function in humoral immunity and antioxidant capacity of rabbits.
