The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1981;16(2):359-369
The twelve patients, whose ages ranged from 18 years to 87 years, 5 of males and 7 of females, were admitted to Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Korea University Hospital from January, 1978 to November, 1979 for total hip replacement surgery: 5 cases of the post traumatic femur neck fracture, 2 case of idiopathic aseptic necrosis, 2 cases of post infectious bony ankylosis of the hip, 1 case of sequele of Legg-Perthes disease, 1 case of secondary osteoarthritis secondary due to congenital acetabular dysplasia and acetabular dysplasia secondary to old infection. For these cases, the authors carrid out the surgery of total hip replacement through the new method of anterolateral “S” approach, combined with innominate osteotomy and autogenous bone graft of resected femoral head. Regular type of eleven Muller prosthesis and one Charnley prosthesis were adequately inserted in the enlarged acetabular socket. The results obtained are as follows: 1. This approach had the following advantages; such as the sufficient exposure of the operative field without the greater trochanteric osteotomy, the shortened operative time, the decreased amount of blood loss and the easy widening of the acetabular socket during the surgery. 2. There was no difficulty to perform simultaneously innominate osteotomy with autogenous bone graft of resected femoral head to the ilium during the same operative period. 3. The release of the rectus femoris from the anteroinferior iliac spine does not cause any weakness of the knee extension. 4. In all 12 patients, the end results of the function after this new method revealed saticefactory.

Journal of the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons 1997;23(1):69-77
During 10 years (from 1986 to 1995), 54 patients were diagnosed as maxillary cancer and undergone maxillectomy in department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Korea Cancer Center Hospital. We studied clinically about their age and sex distribution, TNM staging, histopathologic diagnoses, treatment modalities, overall survival rates, survival rates according to stages and treatment modalities. In them, 23 patients were delivered maxillary obturators, we also studied clinically about them and their obturators. The overall 3-year and 5-year survival rates of these maxillectomized patients were 59.0% and 55.0%. The 5-year survival rates of stage II and stage III patients was 63.0%, and that of stage IV patient was 50.0%. According to treatment modalities, The 5-year survival rates in cases of surgery only was 66.7%, in cases of preoperative chemotherapy and/or radiaiotherapy was 63.5%, in cases of postoperative radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy was 50.4%. The 5-year survival rate of obturator delivered patients was 56.8%, and that of no-obturator delivered patients was 51.8%. The using rates of obturator were 70.5% at 1 year, 59.7% at 2 years, and 53.0% at 3 years.

The present study was to assess the effect of ultrarapid freezing on the development of 1-cell mouse zygote using cryoprotectants, DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) or PROH (1,2-propanediol). We investigated the effect of the type and concentration of cryoprotectant, and of the temperature and time of prefreezing equilibration on their capacity to develop to the blastocyst stage in vitro. The concenration, the equilibration temperature, and the exposure time seemed to serve as an important factor in ultrarapid freezing of 1-cell mouse zygotes. In addition to the exposure time and the concentration of cryoprotectant appeared to play a key role in the development of the embryo. In general, the development of the embryo was more effective at 3degrees C than 23degrees C and 4.5 M than 3 M for 3 to 5 minutes. At 23degrees C the development of the embryo was stimulated by DMSO while at 3degrees C it was stimulated by PROH. Thus it has been suggested that there exists a correlation between the concentration of cryoprotectants and exposure time in the development of the embryo. In conclusion, we found that for ultrarapid freezing of mouse 1-cell embryos in DMSO, or PROH-based solution, viability shown optimum depending on the cryoprotectant, the concentration of the cryoprotectant and on the temperature and the duration of equilibration.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1979;14(3):579-583
This presentation is a case of osteomalacia, the cause of which was a nutritional deficiency. The patient was a 42-year-old female who had pseudofractures of ribs, ulnae, pelvic raml, the right second metacarpai bone and both femoral necks. Following treatment by medication combined with internal fixation of the femoral necks, the result was good.

Journal of the Korean Society of Emergency Medicine 2000;11(4):586-591
Rectus sheath hematoma of the abdominal wall is a well-recognized, but uncommon condition, caused by a tear in an epigastric vessel and characterized by sudden onset of severe abdominal pain and palpable mass. In most cases, a precipitating cause can be demonstrated. Causes include external trauma, strenuous activities, coughing, lifting, sneezing, vomiting, straining while urinating or defecating, golfing, pregnancy and the puerperium, anticoagulation therapy, infection, chronic diesase, arteriosclerosis, hypertension, prior paracentesis or laparotomy, inadequate hemostasis or excessive retraction in surgery, and idiopathy. Unfortunately, the correct diagnosis often is missed, and the hematoma is found only during an exploratory laparotomy. Treatment should be conservative in most instances. Although the mortality rate for patients with rectus sheath hematoma is low, the condition may be fatal if the volume of the hemorrhage is large and if treatment is delayed. Hence, it should be included in the differential diagnosis of any patient who presents to the emergency department with acute onset of abdominal pain. Our purpose is to familiarlize emergency physicians with the pathophysiology, the diagnosis, and the treatment of rectus sheath hematoma. We describe a patient with fatal rectus sheath hematoma presenting to the emergency department and give a review of the literature.
