Synovial sarcoma of the hypopharynx is an uncommon malignancy, with less than 100 cases reported in available journals. We report a case of a 22-year-old female presenting with dysphagia and enlarging hypopharyngeal mass, clinically diagnosed as hypopharyngeal malignancy, right, at least stage III. Histopathologic examination including immunohistochemistry study with TLE1 and SS18 Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) confirm the diagnosis of synovial sarcoma. This is the first reported case of synovial sarcoma of the hypopharynx in the Philippines confirmed by SS18 FISH. Due to the size of the mass, chemoradiotherapy followed by surgery is the current plan of management for this patient.

Lipoma is a common tumor throughout the body, but occurrence in the deep neck space is very rare, and only some cases have been reported by otolaryngologist and pathologist for the last century. In head and neck area, as elsewhere, the lipoma is mainly originated from the subcutaneum. But in deeper tissues, its characteristics are different from those of other sites of lipoma. Submucosal lipoma in the head and neck area usually occur in oral cavity and hypopharynx. Recently we hae experienced 3 cases of deep neck space lipoma, so we report our clinical experiences with brief review of literature.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 2013;53(6):377-379
Perforation of the hypopharynx, which can occur after anterior cervical approach, is a very rare type of complication. If diagnosed late, it can lead to very fatal course, such as mediastinitis and hematosepsis. Therefore, a precise and prompt diagnosis is crucial. When conservative treatment alone is not expected to heal the perforated site or is likely to lead to serious complications, surgical treatment becomes necessary. This report demonstrates that surgical intervention performed immediately after an early diagnosis can lead to the successful treatment of a large perforation in the hypopharynx on a 58-year-old male patient.

8.Observable Laryngopharyngeal Lesions during the Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Clinical Endoscopy 2013;46(3):224-229
Regardless of outstanding developments in the endoscopic field, laryngopharyngeal lesions are generally considered as a field of otolaryngology, and thus it is thought that not a lot of gastrointestinal endoscopists commonly take interest in these lesions during the upper gastrointestinal endoscopic examinations. Therefore, here in this thesis, I reviewed the availability of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in laryngopharyngeal area, normal structures of laryngopharynx, and the lesions that can be observed with the standard upper gastrointestinal endoscopic procedure.

Giant fibrovascular polyps of the esophagus and hypopharynx are rare, benign, and tumor-like lesions of the upper digestive tract. Due to the initial lack of symptoms, these polyps are often clinically undiagnosed or misdiagnosed until they are significant in size. Most of them can be surgically removed by a cervical incision approach or endoscopic approach. However, we experienced a case of 37 years old male patient, who had a giant fibrovascular polyp of the hypopharynx removed by transoral approach because of the location and size of the stalk. We present this case of a giant fibrovascular polyp of the hypopharynx with a brief review of literature.
