Epidermal growth factor (EGF) is a multifunctional growth factor,which is widely expressed in most ocular tissues including cornea,retina and sclera.It may regulate the growth and proliferation of various ocular cells with the interaction of epidermal growth factor receptor in vitro or in vivo.This article reviews the role of EGF in pathological and physiological processes of ocular diseases,including corneal injury,retinal proliferative diseases,myopia,pterygium,glaucoma,cataract,and eye tumors.
2.DNA Damage in Hippocampal Cells of Rats Induced by Exposure to 1800 MHz Electromagnetic Irradiation

Objective To study the DNA damage in hippocampal cells of rats induced by 1 800 MHz electromagnetic irradiation. Methods Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups, 2 exposed groups and 2 controls. The experimental subjects were exposed to the 1 800 MHz (continuous wave, CW) electromagnetic fields for 21days (12 h/d), the power densities were 0.5 mW/cm2 and 1.0 mW/cm2, meanwhile, sham-control exposures were carried out, the DNA damage was examined by Comet assay. 3.Effects of Pregnancy Exposure to 1800 MHz Electromagnetic Irradiation on Hippocampus Ultrastructure of Offspring Rats

Objective To study effects of 1 800 MHz electromagnetic field exposure in pregnancy on the ultrastructure of the hippocampus of offspring rats. Methods Ninety Wistar rats(female and male was 2:1) were mated,and the pregnant rats were exposed to 1 800 MHz microwave field with power density of 0.5 mW/cm2 or 1.0 mW /cm2,12 h/d,for 21 consecutive days,the rats in the control group received dummy exposure. Three rats aged 3 days and 72 days were selected from groups for ultrastructure observation of hippocampus. Results No significant pathological changes were observed in nerve cells and capillary vessels in the hippocampus. Conclusion The results of the present paper indicate that pregnancy exposure to 1 800 MHz electromagnetic field,may not lead to abnormal ultrastructure changes in hippocampus of offspring rats
4.Intravenous Immune Globulin Therapy For 14 Cases of Rh Hemolytic Disease of Newborn

Objective To observe the effect of intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) therapy on newborn infants of Rh hemolytic disease. Methods IVIG group (n=14) received conventional treatments including albumin administration and phototherapy with additional IVIG therapy at a daily dose of 400 mg/kg given for 1~5 consecutive days,and control group (n=16) only received conventional treatments. Effects were compared between the two groups. Result There were 25 patients with hyperbilirubinemia caused by Rh hemolytic disease received exchange transfusions. 5.The Therapeutic Effects of Different High Doses of IVIG on 48 Newborn Infants with Severe ABO Hemolytic Disease

Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) between the higher dose (1 g/kg) and the lower dose (400 mg/(kg?d)1~3 d) for severe ABO hemolytic disease of newborn. Methods 48 term infants with severe hyperbilirubinemia receiving IVIG were divided into 2 groups. 24 cases in group A with higher dose, while 24 cases in group B with lower dose, another 20 cases without IVIG in the control group C. Phototherapy were used concomitantly for all infants in these 3 groups. The days of life on admission, the days of jaundice appearance, and the peak of serum bilirubin concentration (TB) in each group were macthed. The theraputic effects in TB reduced between each group were compared. Results The infants admitted on the 1st day of life in group A,B,and C were 11, 11, and 8 cases respectively, the range of TB(MTB) in the 3 groups were 230~237?mol/L (13.5~13.9 mg/dl). After treatment, the MTB declined to 203?mol/L (12 mg/dl) in group A within 24hrs, vs 285~316 ?mol/L (17~18 mg/dl) in group B and C,P
6.Effect of Liu's Massage Technique on Teenagers with Cervical Vertebra Disease

Objective To observe the effect of Liu's massage technique on teenagers with cervical vertebra disease.Methods 65 teenagers with cervical vertebra disease were divided into the trial group (n=35) and control group (n=30) treated with routine physical therapy and cervical vertebra disease gymnastics, but cases in the trial group were added with treatment of Liu's massage technique. All cases of two groups were evaluated with Clinical Assessment Scale for Cervical Spondylosis (CASCS) before and after treatment.Results After treatment, the CASCS scores of all cases improved significantly ( P<0.01), but the effect of the trial group was significantly superior to that of the control group ( P<0.01).Conclusion Liu's massage technique is effective on cervical vertebra disease of teenagers.
7.Expression of PDGF-B in renal cortex of diabetic rat

Expression of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-B mRNA was measured by semi-quantitative RT-PCR in renal cortex of diabetic and control Wistar rats. The expression of PDGF-B mRNA in renal cortex of diabetic rats was 2.5-fold of normal rats, suggesting that PDGF-B seems to play a role in diabetic nephro-pathy.
8.Analysis and Countermeasures of Medical Student' s Cognition of Death

Objective: To understand the cognition of death among medical students and put forward some countermeasures .Methods:Stratified sampling was used to select 730 medical students in Fujian .A self -de-signed cognition of death questionnaire and Fear of Death Scale ( FODS) were adopted to conduct the survey .Re-sults:The general cognition of death among medical students was normal (84.8%).Fear of death, either towards themselves or their families , was significantly different in participants ' gender (χ2 =29 .552 , P<0 .001 ) , major (χ2 =6.343,P=0.042), and grade (χ2 =13.979, P=0.030).Thinking of death towards themselves was signif-icantly different in participants' living places (χ2 =10.110, P=0.006), bereavement experience (χ2 =7.353, P=0 .025 ) , religion (χ2 =16 .307 , P=0 .003 ) .Meanwhile , statistical significances were found in the thinking of death towards their families among different bereavement experience (χ2 =14.962, P=0.001) and religion (χ2 =12.359, P=0.015).Grade and religion greatly affected the attitudes towards death of families , while bereavement experience and grade had the great impact on the attitudes towards death of respondent themselves .In the fear of death for participant themselves and their families , gender made the biggest difference .Conclusion: Medical students have a high level of death anxiety .Medical universities and colleges should strengthen death education in medical students and improve its course system in the future .

After removal of unilateral molars in the rats,the changes in the articularcartilage and articular disc of the temporomandibular joint and HRP uptake of thelining cells of synovial membrane were observed with light,transmission and scanningmicroscopy.The HRP uptake activity of the lining cells was lowered and degenerative chan-ges were presented in ths articular cartilages following the removal of the molars.It is suggested that the temporomandibular joint is intimately integrated with theocclusion of the upper and lower teeth.Defect of the teeth on one side mayinduce occlusion disorders.These will certainly cause some changes of the structureand function of the temporomandibular joint.

The structure of the articular cartilage and disc of the temporomandibular jointin rats and monkey were studied with light,transmission and scanning electronmicroscopy.The articular cartilage covering the mandibular condyle is semilunar in shapeon cross section.Its thickest portion lies posterosuperiorly.The bony trabeculaesubjacent to the cartilage arrange vertically to the articular surface and concentrateto the thickest portion of the articular cartilage.The articular cartilage covering the mandibular fossa is similar to that on themandibular condyle,but contains fewer cartilage cells.Lacking a calcified areawith enlarged cartilage cells,the articular cartilage here may only be divided intothree areas.The articular disc consists of three areas:an upper,a middle,and a lowerone.The structure and ultrastructure of different parts of these cartilages with theirfunctions have been discussed.
