Objective: To investigate the effects of Rehannia glutinosa decoction (RGD)、 Rehmannia glutinosa polysaccharide (RGP) and Rehmannia glutinosa non polysaccharide (RGNP) on peripheral hemogram in mice. Methods: The first experimental group were continuously given RGD、RGP and RGNP for nine days, and then blood sample was taken from tails for determination of peripheral hemogram. The second group were given RGD、RGP and RGNP for five days, after making the blood difficiency model of cyclophosphamide. Determinating peripheral hemogram of the third group, after that those mice were given cyclophosphamide by 2 days, 4 days, 6 days, 8 days. Results: Peripheral hemogram of the every normal group has no difference. To compare the model of blood difficiency group and the control group, there were significant differences, RGNP can only enhance WBC. Both RGP and RGNP can reduce WBC of the mice model of anti cyclophosphamide, while RGP was superior to RGNP. Conclusion: Rehmannia glutinosa has dual directional adjustment function. RGP is tonifying blood active fraction of RG.

BACKGROUND: Micro-implant screws as an absolute anchorage, instead of traditional anchorage that requires patient's high matching and affects beauty, has been paid more attention.OBJECTIVE: To compare the changes in 3 different places following implantation of micro-implant screws. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: The controlled study was performed at the Hospital of Stomatology Affiliated to Foshan College of Sciences and Technology from January 2004 to December 2007.PARTICIPANTS: A total of 45 patients who demand powerful anchorage during the orthodontic treatment were assigned to 3 groups: free gingiva group, mucogingival junction group, and mucosa group.METHODS: By using incomplete flap micro-implant screw implantation, micro-implant screws were implanted in the free gingiva, mucogingival junction and mucosa, with 30 screws in each area.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Loosening and defluvium of micro-implant screws were measured. Pain duration and degree were determined in patients undergoing implantation of micro-implant screws 7 days following surgery. Soft tissue surrounding the micro-implant screws and bleeding rate during probing were detected 56 days following surgery.RESULTS: The number of screw loosening was greatest in the free gingiva group (9 screws), while lowest in the mucogingival junction group (2 screws). Patients suffered from severe flare and pain in the mucosa, and the reaction was mild in the free gingiva following implantation. The reaction was not obvious, but severe pain was found in the mucogingival junction following implantation compared with the free gingiva. Soft tissue surrounding the micro-implant screws and bleeding rate during probing were greater in the mucosa group than in the free gingiva group and mucogingival junction group (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The incomplete flap micro-implant screws in the mucogingival junction contribute to the increase in success implantation rate and the decrease in inflammatory degree, and prevent the occurrence of potential risk.

This study was aimed to establish a quantitative method for the determination of agarotetrol in agarwood to control its quality. The HPLC analysis was performed on a Diamonsil C18 column (4.6 mm í 250 mm, 5 μm), eluted with a mobile phase of water with 0.1% formic acid and acetonitrile in gradient mode with the flow rate of 0.7 mL·min-1. The detection wavelength was set at 252 nm. The column temperature was 30oC. The results showed that the separation of agarotetrol and adjacent peaks were more than 1.5, which achieved a baseline separation. A good lin-earity (r = 0.999 8) was observed in the range of 2.0-125.0 μg·mL-1, with the average recovery of 102.75%. The a-garotetrol cannot be less than 0.15% based on the data of Agarwood samples. It was concluded that the method was accurate and reliable to determine the content of agarotetrol, which can be used for the quality control of agarwood.

Objective To investigate the effects of emodin on the triglyceride metabolism and oxidative stress in steatosis in HepG2 cells and possible underlying mechanisms. Methods The appropriate concentration of emodin on HepG2 cells were detected by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay.HepG2 cells were induced to fat overaccumulation by 1 mmol/L free fatty acids (FFA) (oleate∶ palmitate =2∶1).The model group exposed to 10 μmol/L,20 μmol/L,40 μmol/L emodin. The intracellular lipid accumulation was documented by Oil Red O staining and the content of triglyceride and total cholesterol was observed.Reactive oxygen species (ROS) was determined by flow cytometry.Western blotting was performed to analyze the protein levels of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK),phosphorylated AMPK,and sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP-1).Results Emodin reduced lipid accumulation and triglycerides (TG) content (P < 0.05).At the same time,it significantly reduced ROS production (P < 0.05).Moreover,the levels of AMPK and p-AMPK protein were significantly upregulated, and SREBP-1 protein was significantly downregulated with the treatment of emodin (P < 0.01).Conclusions This study has demonstrated that emodin can reduce fatty degeneration induced by FFAs in hepatocytes, and this effect may be partially mediated by the AMPK/SREBP-1 pathway.

Objective To investigate the appropriate screening method for thyroid diseases during early pregnancy. Methods We collected information of 4 044 pregnant women who attended to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking University First Hospital from September 1,2013 to September 30,2014 for antenatal care and underwent one step screening for thyroid diseases in first trimester, which meant blood test for thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH),free thyroxine(FT4) and thyroid peroxidase antibody(TPOAb) at the same time.Simulation analysis was performed on these 4 044 women with twostep screening (TSH first and then FT4 and TPOAb if TSH was abnormal). The incidence, missed diagnosis rate, costs of screening, and outcomes of the missed diagnosed cases of women with thyroid diseases were compared between one-step and two-step screening based on the cutoff value determined by American Thyroid Association (ATA) or our hospital (0.23-4.08 mU/L).The positivel rate of TPOAb was compared among the three groups classified according to TSH value (≥ 0.1-< 2.5 mU/L,≥ 2.5-< 4.08 mU/L and ≥ 4.08 mU/L).T-test,Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test were applied for statistical analysis. Results When the cutoff value of TSH was set at ≥ 0.1-< 2.5 mU/L (ATA recommendation),7.9% (320/4 044) of the women required medical treatment. It was significantly higher than 3.2% (129/4 044),which was obtained when the normal reference value of TSH was set based on data from our hospital. The positive rates of TPOAb were 7.2%(214/2 976),13.9%(103/777) and 28.6%(55/192) for TSH ≥ 0.1-< 2.5,≥ 2.5-< 4.08 mU/L and ≥ 4.08 mU/L group, respectively. When we set the OR value for TOPAb as one in the TSH ≥ 0.1-< 2.5 mU/L group, the OR(95%C1)s of the other two groups were 1.972(1.537-2.532) and 5.181(3.679-7.297).If two-step screening protocol and ATA recommendations were applied,0.7% (27/4 044) of women who needed treatment would be missed.However,312 480 yuan (RMB) would be saved compared with one-step screening (77.27 yuan per person). When the hospitalized reference value was applied,1.1%(45/4 044) of women would not be treated and 384 720 yuan would be saved (95.13 yuan per person) compared to one-step screening. For those missed diagnosed cases,no more adverse pregnant outcomes (all P>0.05),including fetal distress, gestational diabetes mellitus, preterm birth, fetal growth restriction, oligohydroamnios, polyhydroanmios, fetal death, gestational hypertension with pre-eclampsia,placental abruptio and neonatal asphyxia were reported although no standard treatment had been provided,no matter ATA recommendation or unique reference in our hospital was adopted. Conclusions We recommend the two-step method for thyroid function screening during early pregnancy. For the purpose of cost-saving,reduction of missed diagnosis rate and avoidance of overtreatment, the management protocol should be individualized for those women with TSH value between 2.5 mU/L and the normal reference value of our hospital during pregnancy.
