OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of astragalus polysaccharides(APS) combining with total ginsenoside (TG) on the proliferation of T cells in peripheral blood of healthy adults and on the immune function of mice after treatment with cyclophosphamide (CY) . METHODS: The proliferation rate of T cells in peripheral blood was detected by methyl thia-zolyl tetrazolium(MTT) colorimetric analysis; the weight of immune organs such as spleen and thymus etc. in mice were detected. RESULTS: The proliferation of T cells in human peripheral blood could be enhanced if the concentration of APS remained within 25-100?g/ml and that of TG remained within 5-20?g/ml; the proliferation rates were 102.3%-141.1% and 113.9%-163.1% , respectively; the figure stood at 262.3%-383.0% when APS and TG used in combination. The spleen indexes of APS group and the APS plus TG group increased significantly vs. the CY group(P

OBJECTIVE: To establish an HPLC method for the determination of fumaric acid in Pleurotm citrinopileatus. METHODS: HPLC was performed on Yilite C18 column(250 mm?4.6 mm,5 ?m) with methanol-0.01 mol?L-1 potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution(5 ∶ 95,pH adjusted to 2.5 using phosphoric acid) as mobile phase and detection wavelength of 216 nm. RESULTS: The linear range of fumaric acid was 0.16~1.6 ?g (r=0.999 9). The average recovery was 101.59% (RSD=1.28%,n=6). CONCLUSION: This method is accurate, simple and reproducible for the content determination of fumaric acid in P. citrinopileatus.

Objective To investigate the effect of isoflurane inhalation during gestation period on plasticity of hippo-campal synapses in offspring rats. Methods Ten healthy pregnant SD rats at 14 day gestation were randomly divided into 2 gorups ( n = 5 each): control group (group C) and isoflurane group (group I). The rats in group C were mechanically ventilated with O2 while in group I the rats inhaled 1.3% isoflurane in O2 for 2 h a day until labor. Four weeks after birth 4 offspring rats from each pregnant rats (2 male, 2 female) were tested for learning and memory abilities using Morris water maze. Then the offspring rats were sacrificed and hippocampi isolated. The synaptic structure of hippocampal CA1 area was examined by trans-electron microscopy. Results Morris water maze test showed that the escape latency was significantly shorter and the number of times of spanning flat roof greater in group C than in group I. The structure of hippocampus was intact in group C but incomplete in group I. Meanwhile the thickness of synaptic density was significantly decreased in group I. Conclusion Isoflurane anesthesia of pregnant rats may induce learning and memory disabilities in offspring rats by inhibiting the plasticity of synaptic structure in hippocampus.

ObjectiveTo investigate the neuropsychological impairments and risk factors that caused cognitive disturbance in patients with silent brain infarction (SBI). Methods36 SBI subjects and 25 normal controls were compared on a comprehensive neuropsychological test battery. Logistic regression was used to analysis the risk factors. ResultsThe SBI group scored lower on the visual retention test (VRT), the WAIS RC full scale IQ, standard scores of the perceptual organization factor and memory/attention factors than did the control group. The score of self rating depression scale (SDS) was higher in SBI group. Hypertension and leukoaraiosis (LA) were correlates of cognitive impairment in logistic regression analyses. Conclusions SBI has some degree of neuropsychological impairment, especially deficits of visuospatial ability, disturbance of perceptual organization, memory and attention, and some degree of depression. Hypertension and LA independently contribute to the risk factors of cognitive disturbance.
