Journal of Preventive Medicine 2024;36(3):224-227
Objective:
To compare the efficacy of two bioceramic materials, iRoot BP Plus and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) in the preservation of vital pulp of mature permanent teeth with exposed pulp of caries origin, so as to provide insights into appropriate selection of pulp capping agents in clinical process.
Methods:
Vital pulp therapy were performed on 120 mature permanent teeth with carious exposure at the Department of Stomatology of Hangzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. The teeth were randomly divided into two groups which were treated respectively by iRoot BP Plus (iRoot group) and MTA (MTA group). The clinical efficacy was evaluated by clinical examinations and imaging examinations.
Results:
There were 60 cases in iRoot group, including 23 males and 37 females, 27 cases affected premolars and 33 cases affected molars, and 8 cases of Class I and 52 cases of Class II cavity type, with a median age of 41 (interquartile range, 12) years. There were 60 cases in MTA group, including 29 males and 31 females, 21 cases affected premolars and 39 cases affected molars, and 10 cases of Class I and 50 cases of Class II cavity type, with a median age of 39 (interquartile range, 14) years. There were no significant differences in gender, age, affected tooth location and cavity type between the two groups (P>0.05). The success rate of iRoot group at 12 months was 91.67% while the MTA group was 88.33%, and the pulp infection rate of iRoot group at 12 months was 8.33% while the MTA group was 11.67%. There were no significant differences in success rate and pulp infection rate between the two groups (P>0.05). The rate of crown discoloration in MTA group was 61.67%, while there was no discoloration in iRoot group.
Conclusions
During 12 months, iRoot BP Plus and MTA can both achieve great effects in the treatment of mature permanent teeth with carious pulp exposure, but there is a problem of tooth discoloration after pulp covering using MTA. The long-term clinical effects of the two materials need to be further studied.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2015;35(2):127-131
OBJECTIVETo observe the differences in timely effectiveness of immediate analgesia on acute migraine between electroacupuncture (EA) at shaoyang meridian points and non-meridian points.
METHODSThe randomized controlled trial method was adopted. One hundred and ten cases of acute migraine were randomized into two groups. 55 cases in each one. In the observation group, EA was applied to Fengchi (GB 20), Waiguan (TE 5), etc. In the control group. EA was applied to non-meridian points. Only one treatment was given, and the nee dies were retained for 30 min in the two groups. Separately. at 10 time points, named before acupuncture, in 5 min, 10 min. 20 min and 30 min (at the moment of needle removal), 1 h, 2 h, 4 h, 6 h and 8 h after acupuncture, the pain intensity numerical rating scale (PI-NRS) was adopted to evaluate the pain severity and the adverse reac tion was recorded.
RESULTS(1) The effective rate of imnmediate analgesia was 87. 3% (48/55) in the observation group. significantly higher than 52.7% (29/55) in the control group (P<0.01). (2) NRS of each group was re duced at each time point, from 5 min to 8 h after acupuncture (all P<0.01). (3) NRS score at 30 min after acu puncture in the control group was obviously lower than that in the observation group (P<0.05), but the scores in 2 h, 4 h, 6 h and 8 h after acupuncture in the observation group were lower apparently than those in the control group (all P<0. 01). The differences in the scores in 5 min, 10 min, 20 min and 1 h after acupuncture were not significant (all P>0. 05). (4) For the reducing amplitude of NRS score at the same time point after acupuncture, the results in 20 min, 30 min and 1 h in the control group were higher apparently than those in the observation group (all P<0. 05). But, in 2 h, 4 h, 6 h and 8 h, the results in the observation group were higher apparently than those in the control group (all F<0.05). The differences in 5 min and 10 min after acupuncture were not significant (both P>0. 05). (5) In 24 h after acupuncture, the recurrence rate of migraine was 12. 7% (7/55) in the observation group, which was lower obviously than 34. 5% (19/55) in the control group (P<0. 05). The adverse reaction was not found in the two groups.
CONCLUSIONEA at the shaoyang meridian points achieves the definite immediate analgesia effect on acute migraine and presents the time effectiveness of analgesia.

Objective To observe the hemostatic efficacy and safety of argon plasma coagulation (APC) through bron?choscope after biopsy. Methods The APC was given to patients suffered from coronary heart disease combined hyperten?sion or paroxysmal auricular fibrillation and accepted bronchoscopy biopsy with much bleeding. The hemostatic effect and changes of heart rate, blood pressure and SPO2 were observed before and after treatment. Results Sixty-two patients were treated with endoscopic hemostasis by APC. The hemostasis was successful in 60 cases. The hemostasis was performed with APC successfully in 2 patients after intubation and mechanical ventilation because of the biopsy hemorrhage. Sixty-two cas?es included 42 cases of airway tumor (26 cases in lobe bronchus and 16 in segmental bronchus), 16 cases of broadening of the trachea ridge and mucosal rough, and 4 cases of granulation tissue of lobe bronchus. There were no significant differenc?es in mean arterial pressure and heart rate before and after treatment in 60 patients (P>0.05). The oxygen saturation was sig?nificantly lower after treatment than that before treatment (0.939±0.027 vs. 0.956±0.017, P<0.05). Conclusion Hemosta?sis treatment by APC through bronchoscope has the characteristics of rapid, thorough and safe, especially for patients com?bined with cardiovascular disease. It can avoid the occurrence of cardiovascular system complications caused by convention?al hemostatic treatment.

Objective To observe blood glucose values and serum insulin levels at different times after acupoint injection of insulin with PVP as a sustained release agent and analyze the correlation between them in SD Rats. Methods One hundred and forty-four male SD rats were randomized into groups A (acupoint injection of insulin alone), B (acupoint injection of sustained-release insulin) and C (control). At one hour after every group received an oral gavage of 40% glucose solution (2.2 g/kg), groups A and B were given point Zusanli injection and group C was not treated. In the three groups of rats, blood glucose values and serum insulin levels were measured at six time points: 0.5, 3, 6, 8, 10 and 24 hours after acupoint injection (in group C at the corresponding time points). In every group, the reaction of Point Zusanli region to the stimulation was observed by optical microscopy in at three time points: 3, 10 and 24 hours after acupoint injection. Results The glucose-lowering rate reached its peak at 3 hours after acupoint injection and then declined in groups A and B. The hypoglycemic effect tended to be stable at 6 hours after acupoint injection in group A and at 10 hours after acupoint injection in group B. The hypoglycemic effect was better in group B than in group A at 6 and 8 hours after acupoint injection (P<0.01). In group A, serum insulin reached its peak at 3 hours and tended to be stable at 6 hours after acupoint injection (P<0.05). Serum insulin levels were significantly lower in group B than in group A at four time pints: 0.5, 3, 6 and 8 hours after acupoint injection (P<0.05). An analysis of the correlation between rat serum insulin levels and the glucose-lowering rate showed a significant positive correlation in group A (P<0.01) and a low positive correlation in group B (P<0.05). In groups A and B of rats, clear stripes and complete structure of muscle fibers were seen with no obvious degeneration, necrosis and inflammatory reaction around point Zusanli at three time points: 3, 8 and 24 hours after acupoint injection; there were no obvious pathological changes compared with group C.Conclusions PVP as a sustained release agent can slow down the absorption rate of insulin in rat point Zusanli region. Meanwhile, it prolongs the continuous time of the hypoglycemic effect of insulin. There is a low correlation between serum insulin levels and the hypoglycemic effect, suggesting that acupoint injection with a sustained release agent can prolong the effect of acupoint injection of medicine.
