Objective To investigate individual variations of the femoral isometric poiIit of anterrior cruciate ligament(ACL). Methods The femoral isometric points(i)were determined by measuring the knee joint lateral projections in 100 adults.The distances from the femoral isometric point i to the posterior border of intercondylar notch were measured and compared among 4 age groups(20 to 30 y,30 to 40 y,40 to 50 y and>50 y)by 2 × 2 factor analysis and Student-Newman-Keuls (SNK-q)Analysis to determine the effects of age and gender on the measurements. Results The average distance was(10.6±1.55)mm,ranging from 15.05 am to 7.50 mm.The 2×2 factor analysis showed the differences were signifcant between age groups(F=2.843,P=0.042)and between sexes(F=4.245,P=0.042).but the age and sex factors were not interacted (F=0.456,P=0.7 14). The SNK-q Analysis revealed the differences were significant between the 20 to 30 y group and the 40 to 50 y group as well as the>50 y group(P<0.05),but not significant between the 30 to 40 y group and the 20 to 30 y group(P>0.05).No signifieant difference was observed between any two of the 30 to 40 y group,40 to 50 y group and>50 y group(P>0.05). Conclusion Since the ACL femoral isometric points vary from person to person,it is valuable to check them twice radiologically before and during the operation.

Objective To evaluate the laparoscopy in the diagnosis and treatment for acute abdominal emergency. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical data of 35 patients with an acute abdomen of unknown causes diagnosed and treated under laparoscope from December 1999 to April 2003 in this hospital. Results Diagnosis was confirmed by laparoscopy in all the 35 cases. Laparoscopic operation was successfully completed in 28 cases, whereas a conversion to open surgery was required in 7 cases, in which the site of incision was under the guidance of laparoscopic observations. No surgery-related deaths or wound-related complications occurred. The mean operative time was 48 min (range, 30~72 min), and the mean hospital stay was 5.8 days (range, 3~9 days). Conclusions Laparoscopy is not only a safe and accurate diagnostic method, but also a good procedure for treatment.

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment of slight and moderate benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)with large doses of cemilton by urodynamie test.Methods A systematic review of using large doses of cernihon only for 80 patients with BPH with 7 grade ＜ International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS)≤20 grade.All cases with cemilton had been administered in a dosage of 750 mg,three times a day for one year.All were respectively given IPSS,postvoiding residual urine(PVR),maximum flow rate(Qmax)and pressure-flow(A-G)test in order to assess the effectiveness at pre-treatment and 3,6,12 months after treatment.Results All patients had followed up for(1.2±1.6)years,additionally 26 of those were removed and others had received complete follow-up.Before the treatment IPSS was(20.5±4.5)grade,PVR was(42.5±8.2)ml,Qmax was(10.2±2.3)ml/s,A-G was 56.5±12.8,PQmax was (54.8±13.7)mm Hg(1 mm Hg = 0.133 kPa),and 12 months later,IPSS was(11.0±3.3)grade,PVR was (15.9±7.4)ml,Qmax was(15.7±2.5)ml/s,A-G was 49.2±13.6,PQmax was(43.6±14.9)mm Hg.There were significantly difference between pre-treatment and post-treatment data of the urodynamics(P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions The effectiveness of the treatment of slight and moderate benign prostatic hyperplasia with large doses of cemihon are relatively satisfactory.Main post-treatment urodynamic parameters obviously improves than that of the pre-treatment.

Objective. To study the role of endogenous carbon monoxide (CO) in endotoxin shock. Methods. The changes of CO levels and the effects of zinc protoporphyrin IX (ZnPP),an inhibitor of heme-oxygenase (HO), in endotoxin shock and the efficacy of hemin,an inducer of HO were investigated.Results. The plasma CO levels were found to be significantly increased during the course of endotoxin shock. Injection of ZnPP was shown to abrogate the endotoxin-induced hypotension and metabolic derangements markedly. Administration of hemin to healthy rabbits revealed the hypotension and metabolic derangements similar to the animals given endotoxin.Conclusion.CO is a newly found endogenously produced mediator which may play an important role in the pathogenesis of endotoxin shock.
