Objective To find out effective ways of assessing doctors' scientific research performance via an index system so as to conduct objective evaluation. Methods An index system for assessing doctors' scientific research performance established with the Delphian method and the subjective assessment by experts were used to evaluate and mark doctors' scientific research performance and a comparison was then made between the two assessment methods. Results The results of the two assessment methods were basically the same , with the assessment via the index system being superior to the subjective assessment by experts. Conclusion The assessment of doctors'scientific research performance via the index system is a satisfactory way of assessment. It is also a dynamic system needing further perfection and development.

Objective To discuss a new effective method for treatment of chronic subdural hematoma in elderly patients. Methods Flush operation for elderly patients with chronic subdural hematoma(CSDH) by neuroendoscopy through burrhole approach were performed in 37 elderly patients. The mean age of the group was 68.5 years (60-86 years). 5 cases were recurrent after simple drainage. Thoroughly flushs the hematoma cavity under television monitor, removes the clot, coagulates the bleeding focus, break the septum of hematoma cavity to make it communicate with the normal subdural space. Results On following up 2-18 months, all the hematoma disappeared, 34 cases improved in clinic manifestation, no serious complications and death occurred. Conclusions Flush operation for elderly patients with chronic subdural hematoma by flexible neuroendoscopy through burrhole approach can improve the therapeutic effect and avoid the recurrence and the complilcations of the traditional drainage therapy.

Objective To study the effects of carotid sympathectomy on symptom or intercurrent damage of refractory cerebral palsy. Methods 204 cases with cerebral palsy of mixed type and with intercurrent damage were treated with bilateral carotid sympathectomy. Results 187 cases(91.7%) were followed up successfully, which showed 74.4% of torsion or tension spasm,42% of athetosis,63.6% of cognition language disturbance,81.6% of sialorrhoea,27.6% of strabismus and 88% of deglutition handicap improved. The scores of activity of daily living improved 43.8%.The total incidents effective rate was 82.7%.Conclusion Carotid sympathectomy is an effective and safe microsurgery method for the symptom or intercurrent damage of the refractory cerebral palsy.
