Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2010;28(7):778-781
Objective: To investigate the application of entropy partition method (EPM) for studying the diagnostic criteria of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndrome. Methods: A clinical epidemiological survey was conducted in 400 patients with vascular endothelial dysfunction and the EPM was adopted to extract the TCM syndrome elements of "stagnancy of collateral-Qi in a deficiency condition", the correlation degree between each symptom of "stagnancy of collateral-Qi in a deficiency condition" was calculated and the diagnostic threshold of vascular endothelial dysfunction was established. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the EPM-associated diagnostic criteria were assessed by comparing with those of clinical epidemiology. Results: The diagnostic criteria of "stagnancy of collateral-Qi in a deficiency condition" in vascular endothelial dysfunction established with EPM had a satisfactory diagnostic efficiency. Conclusion: EPM for complex system is suitable for studying the diagnostic criteria of TCM syndrome. EPM is a scientific and strict method and has great value in clinical practice.

AIM: To investigate the effect of low intensity white light irradiation on the retinas of mice.
METHODS: Thirty C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into two groups. The number of the mice in each group was 15. The mice in experimental group received dark adaptation from 5:00p. m. to 6:00p. m. , and then exposed to LED white light from 6:00p. m. to 7:00p. m. everyday for a month. At 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30d after the beginning, we examed the histology of mice retinas, calculated the thickness of outer nuclear layer ( ONL ) , inner nuclear layer ( INL ) and analyzed electrophysiology of mice.
RESULTS:One month after experiment, compared to the control group, the latency of Rod-R a wave of the mice in experimental group significantly prolonged, the amplitude of Cone-R b wave of the mice in experimental group significantly decreased and the latency of b wave of the mice in experimental group significantly prolonged ( P<0. 05). There are no significant difference in the histology of retina, ONL and INL thicknesses.
CONCLUSION: 100lux low intensity white light could give rise to the impairment of the retinal functions in dark-adapted mice.

International Eye Science 2017;17(5):954-957
AIM:To observe the effect of combined treatment(using intraocular pressure-lowering drugs + intravitreal injection of Lucentis + complex trabeculectomy + panretinal photocoagulation)for neovascular glaucoma(NVG).
METHODS: This was a prospective non-randomized clinical study. A total of 24 patients(24 eyes)with NVG were enrolled. After using intraocular pressure(IOP)-lowering drugs, the elevated IOP in 7 eyes was controlled within normal limits and 17 eyes within high levels. All patients were treated with intravitreal injection of Lucentis 0.50mg/0.05mL. Complex trabeculectomy were performed within 7d after injection. All patients were treated with panretinal photocoagulation after complex trabeculectomy. The regression of iris neovascularization, changes in IOP, best corrected visual acuity, intraoperative and postoperative complications and filtering bleb were analyzed after combined treatment. Patients were followed-up for 6-18mo.
RESULTS: Iris neovascularization completely regressed within 1wk in 24 eyes after intravitreal injection of Lucentis. The average IOP was 41.38±3.16mmHg before combined treatment, and 12.69±1.52mmHg in 6mo after combined treatment. The differences had statistically significant before and after combined treatment(F=25.592, P<0.05). Before combined treatment, the best-corrected visual acuity was >0.1 in 3 eyes, 0.01-0.1 in 10 eyes, non light perception(NLP)- finger counting(FC)in 11 eyes. After combined treatment, the best-corrected visual acuity was >0.1 in 5 eyes, 0.01-0.1 in 16 eyes, NLP~FC in 3 eyes, which showed statistically significant difference with the visual acuity before combined treatment(Z=-2.201, P<0.05).
CONCLUSION: Combined treatment could effectively control the IOP and preserve the visual function in patients with neovascular glaucoma.

AIM: To investigate the effects of fibroblast growth factor 10 ( FGF10 ) on lipopolysaccharide ( LPS)-induced microglial activation .METHODS:Mouse BV2 microglial cells were maintained in DMEM in a humidified incubator with 95%/5%( V/V) mixture of air and CO 2 at 37℃.The medium was changed every 1 or 2 d.The cells were digested and passaged every 4 or 5 d.The BV2 microglial cells were first pretreated with FGF 10 (1 mg/L) for 30 min and then stimulated with LPS (500 μg/L).The medium and the cells were collected at different time points .The morphologi-cal changes of microglia were visualized under microscope .To evaluate the microglial activation , the transcription and pro-duction of proinflammatory factor tumor necrosis factor-α( TNF-α) were examined by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), respectively.RESULTS:The morphology of control BV2 microglia showed circular or oval shape .After exposure to LPS for 24 h, the microglia revealed spindle shaped or multipolar morphology , and the percentage of activated cells was significantly increased compared with control group.Pretreatment with FGF10 successfully inhibited the morphological change from normal to activated shape .LPS sti-mulation for 6 h significantly increased the transcription of TNF-α, while FGF10 pretreatment remarkably reversed the effect. In addition, the production of TNF-αincreased in the presence of LPS stimulation for 24 h compared with control group.Pretreatment with FGF10 suppressed LPS-induced TNF-αexpression.CONCLUSION: Pretreatment with FGF10 inhibits the morphological change from normal to activated shape , and remarkably suppressed the transcription and produc-tion of TNF-α.FGF10 successfully suppresses LPS-induced BV2 microglial activation , indicating that FGF10 is a therapeu-tic agent for the treatment of glia-mediated neuroinflammatory diseases .
