3.Clinical observation on focal vitiligo treated with heat-sensitive moxibustion in comparison with medication.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2014;34(4):337-340
OBJECTIVETo observe the difference in clinical efficacy on focal vitiligo treated with heat-sensitive moxibustion in comparison with medication, and discuss its effect mechanism.
METHODSSixty-eight cases were randomized into a moxibustion group (38 cases) and a medication group (30 cases). Additionally, 20 healthy persons were selected randomly as a normal group. In the moxibustion group, the heat-sensitive moxibustion was applied to Hegu(LI 4), Quchi(LI 11), Yanglingquan(GB 34), Zusanli(ST 36), Xuehai(SP 10) and the others, once a day. In the medication group, triamcinolone acetonide cream was used externally and locally, twice a day. In the two groups, the treatment of 15 days made one session. The efficacy was observed after continuous treatment for 3 sessions. The hemorheology test was done in all of the subjects. The radioimmunoassay was adopted to determine the levels of Interleukin 2 (IL-2), Interleukin 6 (IL-6), Interleukin 10 (IL-10) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-alpha) before and after treatment.
RESULTSThe levels of IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-alpha in vitiligo patients were higher significantly than those in the normal group (P<0. 01, P<0. 05), the level of IL-2 was lower significantly than that in the normal group (P<0. 01) before treatment. After 3 sessions treatment, IL-2 level was increased significantly in the moxibustion group and the levels of IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-alpha were reduced, without significant differences as compared with the normal group (all P>0. 05). But the differences were significant as compared with those in the medication group (all P<0. 05). The curative and remarkably effective rate was 76. 3% (29/38) after treatment in the moxibustion group, which was higher significantly than 13. 3% (4/30, P<0. 05) in the medication group.
CONCLUSIONHeat-sensitive moxibustion achieves very good clinical efficacy on focal vitiligo, which is probably via promoting blood circulation and regulating the levels of IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-alpha.

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2006;0(23):-
ObjectiveTo investigate the inhibitory effect of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-?(PPAR?) agonist on mesangial cell(MC) proliferation and extracellular matrix expression induced by angiotensin Ⅱ(Ang Ⅱ).MethodsThe incorporation of 3H-thymidine(3H-TdR) and cell count were used as the measurement of MC proliferation.MC cell-cycle was analyzed by flow cytometry.Mouse primary MC was treated with various concentration of Ang Ⅱ(1,10,100 nmol/L) in the presence or Absence of N-acytosistin(NAC) or rosiglitazone.Transforming growth factor-?1(TGF-?1),plasminogen activator inhibitor-1(PAI-1),and fibronectin(FN) mRNA expression were determined by real time-PCR.Reactive oxygen species(ROS) production was measured by 2,7-dichlorofluorescein diacetate(DCFDA) fluorescence.Results1.One hundred nmol/L Ang Ⅱ increased 3H-TdR incorporation and cell number by 2.14 and 2.32 fold, respectively.Ang Ⅱ-induced MC proliferation was inhibited by PPAR? agonist rosiglitazone with dose-dependent manner in mouse MC.2.One hundred nmol/L Ang Ⅱ stimulation for 24 h induced 48% MC processed to S and G2/M phase.Rosiglitazone significantly blocked Ang Ⅱ increased cell number in S and G2/M phase.3.Rosiglitazone reduced Ang Ⅱ-induced TGF-?1,PAI-1,and FN mRNA expression with dose-dependent manner.4.One hundred nmol/L Ang Ⅱ stimulation for 60 min increased ROS production by 3.85 folds.Rosiglitazone significantly inhibited Ang Ⅱ-induced ROS production.Ten ?mol/L rosiglitazone almost completely blocked Ang Ⅱ-induced ROS production.ConclusionPPAR? agonist rosiglitazone could block Ang Ⅱ-induced MC proliferation and extracellular matrix expression via inhibition of ROS production.

BACKGROUND:Digit ratio is basical y determined within the first 3 months of fetal development. Digit and digit ratio exhibit differences between genders and between left and right hands. Nationality, regional and ethnic difference may also influence the digit ratio. So far, there is no report about the digit ratio of Kazakh adults. OBJECTIVE:To study the characteristics of digit ratio of young Kazakh nationality in Xinjiang of China. METHODS:A total of 200 young Kazakh volunteers in Xinjiang, aged 18-25 years, were enrol ed, including 100 males and 100 females. These participants were subjected to posteroanterior X-ray of both hands. Phalanx length and body height were measured, and the resulting data were statistical y analyzed using SPSS19.0 software. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The digit ratio of Xinjiang Kazakh people was 3D>4D>2D>5D. Male digit ratio possessed the tendency of 3D:5D>4D:5D>2D:5D>3D:4D>3D:4D>2D:3D>2D:4D;female digit ratio possessed the tendency of 3D:5D>2D:5D>3D:4D>4D:5D>2D:4D>2D:3D. The digit ratio of 2D:3D, 3D:4D, 4D:5D was higher in the male than the female;the digit ratio of 2D:4D, 2D:5D, 3D:5D was higher in the female than the male. Digit ratio had sexual differences, especial y in 3D:5D (P<0.05), and had bilateral differences, especial y in 2D:4D and 4D:5D (P<0.05). These findings indicate that the digit ratio of Xinjiang Kazakh people exhibits a bilateral difference, especial y in 2D:4D and 4D:5D, as wel as a sexual difference, especial y in 3D:5D .

Objective To evaluate the effect and feasibility of one-stage hemivertebra excision and internal fixation in treating congenital spinal deformities caused chiefly by hemivertebra through a single posterior procedure. Methods 11 cases with congenital spinal deformities caused chiefly by hemivertebra were treated by one-stage hemivertebra excision and internal fixation through a single posterior procedure between October 1998 and June 2003. There were 5 boys and 6 girls with an average age of 15.4 years (range, 2.5 to 23 years). The location of hemivertebra was at thoracic region in 4 cases, thoracolumbar region in 4 cases, and lumbar region in 3 cases. Of these cases, there were 7 cases with a fully segmented hemivertebrae, 2 cases with multiple hemivertebra, and 2 cases associated with contralateral bar or rib fusion. The average Cobb's angle of scoliosis was 60.5? preoperatively, and 3 cases were associated with kyphosis with the Cobb's angle 13?, 27? and 48? respectively. The average trunk shift was 21.2 mm(range, 4 to 36.7 mm). Internal fixations, which were used for the correction of the deformities, included TSRH in 6 cases, CD in 2 cases, China Great wall in 2 cases, and SYNERGY in 1 case. Results The follow-up ranged from 8 months to 4 years and 8 months with an average of 1 years and 10 months. The average fused vertebra was 8.4 segments (range, 2 to 11 segments). The postoperative average Cobb's angle of scoliosis was 18.7?(range, 0? to 24?), and the Cobb's angle of kyphosis was -11?, -8? and 0? respectively. The mean improvement rate was 69.1%. The average trunk shift was improved to 6.2 mm (range, 0 to 16.3 mm). There was no significant correction loss of the scoliosis, kyphosis and the trunk shift at final follow-up evaluation. The intraoperative complications included laminar and pedicle fractures in 2 cases, 1 case had exudates of incision and instability after surgery. There was no other complication happened during follow-up. Conclusion The effect of one-stage posterior hemivertebra excision and internal fixation through a single posterior procedure was satisfactory and reliable in the treatment of congenital spinal deformities caused chiefly by hemivertebra.

Objective To investigate the protective effect and mechanism of betaxolol on optic nerves after experimental retinal ischemia-reperfused injury. Methods Retinal ischemia was induced in SD rats by increasing intraocular pressure through intracameral infusion. Sixty-eight rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: normal control (eight rats), 0.25% betaxolol treatment (thirty rats) and saline control group (thirty rats). The latter two groups were subdivided into group 1 day, 3 and 7 days after reperfusion, respectively, with 10 rats in each group. Betaxolol and normal saline was applied to the right eyes of the rats in the treatment group and to the ones in normal saline control group, respectively. The amplitude of b-wave of electron retinograph (ERG) was observed and the histological and ultrastructural changes were detected by light and electron microscopy. The expression of neural nitrogen oxide synthase (nNOS) was detected by immunohistochemistry. The content of malonyldialdehyde (MDA) and the superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were measured by spectrophotometer. Results [WTBZ]Began from the first day after reperfusion, in saline control group, the amplitudes of ERG b-wave reduced continuously, the histopathological damages of retina were aggravating, the expression of nNOS increased, MDA level increased and SOD level decreased persistently, which significantly differed from the normal control group (P0.01). Conclusion Betaxolol, by reducing intracellular overfreight of Ca~(2+),inhibiting production of NO and elevating the ability of anti-oxidation in rat retina, can protect retinal neurons from ischemia-reperfused injury.
