Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2014;28(2):140-140
The patient complained of painless mass in the right ear for 3 months. The ipsilateral ear was 1/2 thicker than contralateral one and felt stiff without elasticity. There was limited eminence in cavum conchae about 1 mm in height and about 6 mm x 10 mm in size with clear boundary. which felt hard without tenderness. X-ray showed a long oval nodular calcification with clear but irregular boundary in cavum conchae under the right auricle, the size of which was about 4 mm x 7 mm. The patient was diagnosed right auricle cartilage calcification.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2009;(23):1069-1070,1073
Objective:This article was a retrospective analysis on the preoperative CT scan of fungal sinusitis patients. The non-distinctive clinic feature was suggested to improve the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis.Method:A retrospective analysis was made for 176 patients with fungal sinusitis, which were confirmed by postoperative pathologic disanosis from January 2000 to January 2008.Every patient was performed both CT examination and nasalendoscopy preoperatively. All patients underwent endoscopic sinus surgery and the lesions in sinus were cleared and confirmed fungal infection by pathology.Thirty-five cases fungal infection located in sphenoid sinus,84 cases in maxillary sinus,49 cases in both maxillary and ethmoid sinus,3 cases in all sinus,5 cases in both ethmoid and sphenoid sinus. There were 179 sinuses in 176 patients were infected. Result:This group totally had 175 cases(179 sides). One hundred and seventy-three cases had unibilateral lesion,3 cases had bilateral lesion. The CT scan showed non-distinctive features including unifom dense, uneven dense in the sinus and bone resorption of the inner side bone wall. Five cases in sphenoid sinus lesion were found calcification in CT scan but 8 cases didn't show such features.Among these cases. 5 cases showed uniforra.dense and 3 cases showed uneven dense. In 84 cases maxillary sinus lesion, there were 12 cases without distinctive change, among these cases,8 cases showed uniform derise,4 cases showed uneven dense and 5 cases had boRe resorption. In 49 cases both ethmoid and maxillary sinus lesion,13 cases didn't show distinctive change, among these cases,9 cases showed uniform dense,4 cases showed uneven dense and 6 cases had bone resorption. Five cases had calcification in the both sphenoid and ethmoid sinus. Totally 81.56% of these patients had calcification feature in the CT scan. Conclusion:The calcification in the lesion of sinus is usually featured as characteristic manifestation of fungal sinusitis. But in clinic, the calcification does not exit in some patient's CT scan. When being absent of the featured sign in CT scan, the fungal sinusitis have to be diagnozed by other detecting means, even postoperative pathology.

Objective To discuss the significance of acoustic rhinometry(AR) and rhinomanometry(RM) in the evaluation of surgical treatment of nasal septal deviation. Methods Fifty-one patients of nasal septal deviation were recruited, and seventy-two nasal cavities were tested(twenty-one patients with narrowing of double sides).Visual analogue scale(VAS) was used to estimate the degree of nasal obstruction.AR and RM were used to obtain the data of nasal airway resistance(NAR),nasal cavity 0-5cm volume(NCV0-5) and nasal minimal cross-sectional area(NMCA).The data were used to assess the airflow function of nasal cavity. Each patient was tested at the time both before surgery and 12 weeks after surgery. The pre-and post operative data were used to calculate paired t-test by SPSS 16.0,and to disclose the correlation among ?NCV,?NMCA,?NAR and ?VAS.Results The preoperative data showed that NCV0-5 was 4.07?0.91cm3,NMCA 0.33?0.08cm2,NAR 1.14?0.34kPa?s?L-1,and VAS 7.36?1.23;and the postoperative data showed that NCV0-5 was 7.29?0.68cm3,NMCA 0.56?0.08cm2,NAR 0.35?0.12kPa?s?L-1,and VAS 1.14?0.91.Significant differences existed in NCV0-5,NMCA,NAR and VAS(P

Chinese Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery 2006;0(04):-
OBJECTIVE To study the clinical and pathological characteristics of antrochoanal polyps. METHODS From Oct. 1998 to Sept. 2004, 1023 cases(1895 sides)of chronic sinusitis and/or nasal polyps were treated with endoscopic sinus surgery. Forty-six patients were diagnosed with antrochoanal polyps; all had a unilateral lesion. The average age of these patients was 15a. The polyps from these patients were fixed in formalin and embedded in paraffin. The sections were cut, stained with HE and observed under light microscope. RESULTS All 46 patients were cured after following up for more than 1 year. The antrochoanal polyps were usually unilateral and appeared in younger patients. The main symptom was nasal obstruction. Macroscopically, they had a cystic intramaxillary portion and a solid intranasal portion. Microscopically, the polyps were covered by pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium. The inflammatory cell infiltration in submucous tissue was mainly that of neutrophil cells with few eosinophil cells. Edema and cyst were also found in the submucous tissue. CONCLUSION The pathological findings and clinical features of the antrochoanal polyps indicate that antrochoanal polyps has a different pathogenesis compared with the usual nasal polyps. It should be named antrochoanal cysts rather than antrochoanal polyps.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2013;27(5):230-232
OBJECTIVE:
To study the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and management of multiple myeloma involving sphenoid sinus.
METHOD:
The clinical data of 2 patients with multiple myeloma involving sphenoid sinus were reported and the relevant literatures were also reviewed.
RESULT:
Diplopia and headache were the common symptoms of the patients, and there were also some symptoms related to other organs. Patients often had repeated medical treatments and were finally diagnosed by the biopsy of sphenoid sinus. The disease progressed rapidly in the young patient.
CONCLUSION
Characteristics of multiple myeloma are complicated. Biopsy of the sphenoid sinus is meaningful for patients with both sphenoid sinus tumor and systematic symptoms, especially those with rapid progress.
