This study was aimed to discuss the influence of specific acupoint acupuncture therapy to the serum angiogenesis factor of high fat diet obese mouse models. Mice were randomly divided into the blank control group , acupuncture control group , model control group , and acupuncture treatment group . There were 6 mice in each group . Obese mouse models were induced after 15-week high fat diet . The specific acupoint acupunc-ture therapy was used as an intervention treatment method for 10 days . The enzyme-linked immunosorbent as-say (ELISA) was used in the detection of serum insulin, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor , leptin and the level of nitric oxide in mice . The results showed that the serum insulin , nitric oxide and leptin level in the obese mouse models were increased . However , there were no obvious changes on the vascular endothelial growth factor and soluble vascular endothelial growth fac-tor receptor level . The specific acupoint acupuncture therapy can obviously reduce the level of serum nitric ox-ide and leptin, and improve the content of vascular endothelial growth factor in obese mouse models. However, there were no influence on the level of blood glucose and soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor . It was concluded that the specific acupoint acupuncture therapy method had preferable antiobesity action . Its mechanism of action may be related to the regulation of angiogenesis .

BACKGROUND: Representative formulae of Qi-Benefiting and Blood-Activating Chinese medicinal herbs Bu Yang Huan Wu Tang (BYHWT) can improve microcirculation and hypoxia, decrease fibrinogen, resist platelet aggregation, reduce blood lipid, dilate blood vessel, resist thrombosis, and reduce neonatal plaque rupture, and has a multi-target, multi-channel anti-atherosclerotic effect.
OBJECTIVE: To observe the influence of representative formulae of Qi-Benefiting and Blood-Activating Chinese medicinal herbs BYHWT on aorta Rho kinase, tissue factor, matrix metal oproteinase-2, matrix metal oproteinase-9 mRNA expression in atherosclerosis models, and to explore the action mechanism of BYHWT on anti-atherosclerosis.
METHODS: Vitamin D3 and high fat diet induced atherosclerosis in rats. 60 rats were randomly divided into normal control group, model group, 10 g/kg BYHWT therapy group, 20 g/kg BYHWT therapy group, simvastatin control group and BYHWT prevention group (n=10). At 28 days after model establishment, the expression level of Rho kinase, tissue factor, matrix metal oproteinase-2, matrix metal oproteinase-9 mRNA expression and blood lipid level were detected.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) High fat diet and vitamin D3 could induce atherosclerosis in rats. Atherosclerotic plaque formed in the model group. (2) Rho kinase, tissue factor, matrix metal oproteinase-2, matrix metal oproteinase-9 mRNA expression and blood lipid were significantly lower in the normal control group, 20 g/kg BYHWT therapy group, simvastatin control group and BYHWT prevention group than in the model group (P < 0.01). Above indexes were significantly lower in the 10 g/kg BYHWT therapy group than in the model group (P < 0.05). No significant difference in above indexes was detected among BYHWT prevention group, 20 g/kg BYHWT therapy group and simvastatin control group (P > 0.05). (3) Results indicated that Qi-Benefiting and Blood-Activating BYHWT can resist atherosclerosis, down-regulate the expression of Rho kinase, tissue factor, matrix metal oproteinase-2, and matrix metal oproteinase-9 mRNA expression, which may be one of the mechanisms of anti-atherosclerosis.

Objective To set up a three-dimensional finite element model (FEM) to investigate biomechanics of point contact locking plate (PC-LP) fixating femoral shaft fractures. Methods One intact fresh adult cadaveric femur was scanned by CT at 1 mm interval. Then, the data of CT were utilized to establish three-dimensional FEM by using software Mimics and PRO/E and simulate the different clini-cal loading conditions. The changes of theoretical stress of femur and PC-LP were analyzed under flexion, axial compression and torsion loads. Results (1) Under four-point bending load, the distribution of femur stress was in uniformity, with the largest stress of the PC-LP focused on the edge. (2) Under axial compression load of 250 N, the largest stress of the femur was focused on the screw holes on beth distal ends, with the largest stress of the PC-LP focused on the middle screw holes. (3) Under the torsion load cused on the middlepart and the middle screw holes. Conclusions Under the four-point bending, ax-ial compression and torsion loads, the distribution of femur stress is in uniformity, when the largest stress of the PC-LP focuses on edge or the middle screw holes, while that of the PC-LP on two screw holes of proximal or distal ends.

Objective. Bone mineral density(BMD) was measured in normal Chinese women with single X-ray absorptiometry (SXA) and dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). These two methods were compared to evaluate the sensitivity in reflecting bone loss.Methods. Measurements were performed in 300 women aged 20~79(5 for each age). The 8mm distal,1/4 distal, ultra distal site of the nondominant forearm were measured with SXA; the AP spine(L2-4), right femoral neck(Neck), Ward's triangle(Ward)and trochantor (Troch) were measured with DEXA. Ten women had 5 repeated measurements to evaluate the reproducibility of the equipments.Results. The BMD peak for Neck and Ward was found between age 20~29, for ultra distal and L2-4 at age 30~39, for 8mm distal, 1/4 distal and Troch at age 40~49. After reaching the peak values, BMD at all sites decreased with increasing age. The highest rate of yearly loss of BMD was at 8mm distal. Results of measurement showed significant correlation between SXA and DEXA. Comparing with premenopausal women, the bone loss rate in postmenopausal women was faster and highest up to 11~15 years and the highest rate was at the Ward.Conclusion. The present study gives the normal values of BMD at seven sites for normal Chinese women. The ages of BMD peak were different at seven sites. The yearly loss of BMD was highest at 8mm distal, it seemed to be the sensitive region for bone loss with age. The postmenopausal women had highly significantly loss bone mass than the premenopausal women. Comparing with premenopause, postmenopause BMD for Ward's triangle with DEXA seemed to be most sensitive to the effect of menopause.

Objective To investigate the intellectual characteristics and related factors for patients with mental retardation. Methods 118 patients with mental retardation and 118 normal subjects were assessed with Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-fourth edition of Chinese (WAIS-Ⅳ). Results The full intelligence quotient (FIQ), index and scores of subtests were significantly lower in the patients than in the controls (P<0.01), especially for those of working memory and processing speed index. The difference in percentage of significance between verbal comprehension and working memory was higher (P<0.05). The FIQ and some index of patients positively correlated with age, education level and their parents' education level (P<0.01). Conclusion The patients with mental retardation present an overall decline in intelligence, especially in the working memory and processing speed. The mental development is unbalanced in some patients, that the verbal comprehension is relatively better than working memory. The intelligence of patients with mental retardation may be related with their age, education level and their parents' education level.
