1.Metronomic chemotherapy in human cancers
Journal of International Oncology 2016;43(7):523-525
Metronomic chemotherapy involves antiangiogenic processes that help host to fight against cancer by using continuous low dose drugs.Metronomic chemotherapy can be an effective treatment option for patients with head and neck carcinoma, breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, ovarian and prostate cancer. Metronomic chemotherapy also involves multiple mechanisms that include antiangiogenesis, immune stimulation and direct tumor cell targeting effects. We need to carefully evaluate the clinical effects of combination chemo-therapies that incorporate the other treatment schedules.
2.Behavior of cancers evolution
Journal of International Oncology 2016;43(9):688-690
Cancers evolution is a process of clonal selection, cell competition and clonal expansion. Cancers evolution includes cancer memory, heterogeneity, resistance, transformation and adaption et al.This evolution enables cancer cells to adapt to any hostile environment and to survive. An understanding of cancers evolution will provide a theoretical guidance for the implementation of the precision therapy.
3.Precision chemotherapy for the treatment of cancers
Journal of International Oncology 2017;44(2):133-135
Precision chemotherapy is the prospective direction of cancer chemotherapy, which involves the selection of the effective chemotherapy regimens based on the chemotherapy-related genes.Chemotherapyrelated genes include DNA repair genes, drug metabolism enzymes, drug transporters,apoptosis-related genes and cancer-related genes. These genes can predict the response and toxicity of chemotherapy, and determine the clinical outcome.
4.Successful patterns of maintenance therapy in human common cancer
Journal of International Oncology 2014;(9):655-661
Maintenance therapy is an important strategy for cancer treatment, which mainly include continuation maintenance therapy and switch maintenance therapy, with a classical model of metronomic chemo-therapy.Maintenance therapy can be an effective treatment option for patients with non-small cell lung cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer and ovarian cancer.
5.Cancer and aging
Journal of International Oncology 2017;44(7):519-521
The similar mechanism of human cancer and aging means that cancer is the natural result of aging.Mitochondrial replacement, genome editing, telomere synthesis and immune editing can induce cancer cell senescence and resist human aging, which may breach a limit to human lifespan.
6.Cancer precision therapeutics
Journal of International Oncology 2015;(8):616-618
Cancer precision therapeutics is defined as a therapy strategy based on molecular profiles and classifiers generated from high-throughput molecular assays.Precision therapeutics in oncology is becoming reality thanks to the next-generation sequencing and cancer targeted agents.Selecting optimal targets,identif-ying appropriate combinations of therapies and real-time monitoring of tumor evolution may be critical for practi-cing precision therapeutics.
7.Conversion chemotherapy of cancer
Journal of International Oncology 2014;(8):576-578
In patients with initially diagnosed unresectable cancers, resection of cancer sometimes becomes possible by systemic chemotherapy, and this model of chemotherapy is defined as conversion chemo-therapy. Conversion chemotherapy can improve objective response rate and resection rate, and it has shown an important value in metastatic colorectal cancer, advanced gastric cancer and unresectable hepatocellular carci-noma.
8.Tumor microenvironment and tumor
Journal of International Oncology 2013;40(8):582-584
Rational microenvironment contributes actively to cancer development through multiple mechanisms including triggering genomics instability, providing shield, promoting immune escape, inducing differentiation and permissive nich.Tumorigenesis reversely promotes the form of tumor microenvironment composed of hypoxia, decreasing pH,angiogenesis and nutrition deficiency.Tumor microenvironment not only is the reasons but also results in cancer development and progression.A better understanding of how the tumor environment affects cancer progression would provide the new strategy for cancer therapy.
9.Roles of mitochondria in tumorigenesis
Journal of International Oncology 2013;40(7):486-488
As semi-autonomous organelles, mitochondria are easily damaged by various factors.Mitochondrial dysfunction such as abnormal oxidative phosphorylation, metabolism alterations, apoptosis prevention, damaged mitophagy, immune escape and deregulated signaling pathway have been hypothesized to be involved in tumorigenesis.Modulated mitochondria may prevent the occurrence of tumors.
10.Molecular classification of breast cancer
Journal of International Oncology 2014;41(4):270-272
Breast cancer is a group of heterogeneous diseases.Molecular portraits provide a new insight for personalized cancer management in breast cancer.According to the molecular pathology, molecular biology and system biology, breast cancer goes through different typing methods, including four subclasses, geneexpression signature and integrated genomic classification. These major subtypes of breast cancer may provide guidance for precise therapeutics.
