OBJECTIVE:To explore the effects of folic acid combined with vitamin B12 on the vascular cognitive impairment (VCI)and homocysteine(Hcy)of patients with hypertension and cerebral stroke. METHODS:80 VCI patients with hypertension and cerebral stroke were regarded as observation group, and another 20 healthy volunteers were regarded as healthy control group. Observation group was treated with enhanced homogenized meal 300-500 ml,3 times a day+Folic acid tablet 5 mg,3 times a day+Vitamin B12 tablet 25 μg,3 times a day. Observation groups were treated for continuous 2 months with no nasal administration by themselves. The Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE)score, the level of folic acid, vitamin B12 and Hcy before and after treat-ment were observed and compared with healthy control group, and the incidence of adverse reactions was recorded. RESULTS:Af-ter treatment,MMSE score, the level of folic acid, vitamin B12 in observation group were significantly higher than before and low-er than healthy control group, the level of Hcy was significantly lower than before and higher than healthy control group, the differ-ences were statistically significant(P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 5.00%. There were no serious adverse reac-tions. CONCLUSIONS:Folic acid combined with vitamin B12 can reduce the cognitive impairment degree of patients with hyperten-sion,cerebral stroke and vascular cognitive impairment and level of Hcy,with good safety.

AIM: To study the effects of xijiao dihuang decoction, a Chinese medicine, on the expression of adhesion molecules in vascular endothelial cells (VECs) of adrenine and hypothermia-treated rats. METHODS: The expression of VCAM-1, ICAM-1, PECAM-1, iNOS and their corresponding mRNA in VECs was assayed by immunohistochemistry analysis and RT-PCR, respectively. RESULTS: Immunohistochemistry analysis showed the expression of VCAM-1, ICAM-1, PECAM-1 and iNOS are higher in adrenine and hypothermia-treated rats than that in controls, xijiao dihuang decoction decreased the expression of VCAM-1, ICAM-1, PECAM-1 and iNOS in a dose-dependent manner in adrenine and hypothermia-treated rats. CONCLUSION: Xijiao dihuang decoction can down-regulate the expression of adhesion molecules in vascular endothelial cells of adrenine and hypothermia-treated rats.

Objective To study the effect of Buyang Huanwu Decoction (BHD) on adhesion molecules in vascular endothelial cells (VECs) of blood stasis rats. Methods Expression of ICAM-1, VCAM-1, PECAM-1, iNOS in vascular endothelial cells of blood stasis rats receiving different doses of BHD was observed by immunohistochemical method and RT-PCR.Results The expression of ICAM-1, VCAM-1, PECAM-1, iNOS was increased in model group, while was decreased by BHD. There was an increase tendency on the expression of molecules and significant dose-effect relationship along with the decrease of the BHD doses. Conclusion The increased expression of adhesion molecules in vascular endothelial cells of blood stasis rats could be reduced by BHD in a dose dependent manner.

Objectives:To assess bowel function and quality of life in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC)after ileal pouch anal anastomosis (IPAA).Methods:Clinical data of 37 UC patients after IPAA between 2014 and 2017 were retrospectively analyzed at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital School of Medicine Zhejiang University. The IBDQ and Bowel Function questionnaire were used for analyzing correlation between clinical variables and quality of life or bowel function. Results:Laparoscopic operation was performed in 12 cases at stage 2 and 25 cases at stage 3. Postoperative defecation of stage 3 patients were better than that of stage 2 ( t=6.72, P<0.05). The number of daily defecation in age >45-year-old group was more than that in <45-year-old ( t=3.49, P<0.05), and the rate of evening stool seepage in the older group was higher than in the younger group( t=5.28, P<0.05). The total score of intestinal symptoms of IBDQ in patients of pouchitis was lower than that without pouchitis ( r=0.330, P<0.05). The total score in age >45 in terms of systemic symptoms ( r=0.349, P<0.05) and emotional function ( r=0.379, P<0.05) was higher than age <45. Conclusions:Outcomes of UC patients after IPAA are satisfactory, bowel function and quality of life is related with age, and stage of IPAA affect postoperative defecation.

OBJECTIVETo survey the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases among high-risk population in Nanjing.
METHODSA high-risk population of 1539 underwent physical examinations from September 2001 to May 2004. The results were recorded, the urogenital swabs collected to further detect Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GN), Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct), Ureaplasma urealyticum (Uu), and the blood specimens tested for syphilis and HIV antibodies.
RESULTSThe infection rates were 13.5% for GN, 10.3% for syphilis, 2.3% for condyloma acuminata, 35.9% for Ct and 22.4% for Uu respectively. Nongonococcal urethritis (NUG) was shown to be the most prevalent STD in the group. No subject was found to be positive with HIV antibody.
CONCLUSIONScreening strategy in the high risk population is useful and efficient in controlling the spread of STDs and HIV.
