BACKGROUND: Studies demonstrated that vertebral endplate can be remodeled during intervertebral disc degeneration. However, the relationship between morphology of the vertebral endplate and intervertebral disc degeneration remains poorly understood.OBJECTIVE: To explore the relationship between the morphology of the vertebral endplate and the lumbar disc herniation.METHODS: Forty cases without previous spine disorder and sixty-two cases symptomatic lumbar disc herinations lumbar vertebral were scanned by using spiral CT.Scan range was from superior L4 to superior S2.Scan protocols as below: 140 kV,345 mAs,FOV 160 mm,layer of thick 1 mm,pitch 1.0.Original images were carried through three-dimensional reconstructions using O2 image work station,W300,C80,ZOOM=1.5,Expand 1.Intervertebral disc maximum anteroposterior, transverse diameter, circumference, area and shape were measured based on curve planar reconstruction.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Endplate shape was strongly related to disc herniation(all the P value < 0.01).Endplate area was a less significant factor L4/5 in men and L5/S1 in men and females(P < 0.05).The shape of the intervertebral body endplate margin is an important factor contributing to the development of disc herniation at L4/5 and L5/S1.

Chinese Journal of Analytical Chemistry 2001;29(2):128-132
A molecular template synthetic polymer highly selective for norfloxacinum was prepared by a molecular imprinting technique. The selective binding characteristics of the template polymer was evaluated by Scatchard analysis. The multiple-sites binding model was used to calculate the maximum numher of binding sites and the dissociation constant. The results showed that the template polymer using methacrylic acid (MAA) as functional monomer could form two kinds of binding sites. The dissociation constants were estimated to be Kd1 = 2.9 × 10-5mol/L and Kd2 = 3.2 × 10-3 mol/L. The selective binding experiment for substrates indicated that the polymer gave much higher affinity and selectivity for norfloxacin than for acid pipemidic and cefalexin. It is possible to be a good adsorption and binding material in the selective enrichment and determination of trace norfloxacin in complex biosamples.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerativedisease. Ovariectomized (OVX) AD rat model has been widely used in the experimental research recently. This article reviewed the method of OVX model establishment, behaviorchange, histopathology and biochemistry. Articles published in recent 20 years were collected in the review of the development.

AIM: To investigate the inhibitory effect of Chinese medicine Jinan injection(JA) on Lewis lung cancer (LLC) in mice. METHODS: The C 57 BL/6J mice with Lewis lung cancer(LLC) were divided into normal saline(NS), Jinan high dose (JAH), Jinan middle dose (JAM), Jinan low dose (JAL) and cyclophosphamide(CTX) groups. The body weight changes and inhibitory rate of LLC in each group were observed. In addition, flow cytometry and TUNEL were used to detect the anticancer mechanism of Jinan. RESULTS: The body weights were increased significantly in JA-treated groups vs CTX and the resistant rate was 45.79%, 40.90%, 32.48% and 98.96%, respectively. The apoptotic rate was 24.19%, 14.95% and 13.93% in JAH, JAM and JAL, respectively, and the Jinan induced apoptosis of LIC in a dose-dependent manner.CONCLUSION: Jinan injection inhibites the growth of LLC, and the apoptosis induction may be one of mechanisms that Jinan treates LLC in mice.

BACKGROUND:Establishing a highly successful, safe, reliable standard spinal cord transection model is the precondition of studying spinal cord injury repair. OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the value of preparing spinal cord transection model in rats and the effects of laminectomy on spinal cord. METHODS: We searched the randomized controled trials involving rat models of spinal cord transection in the databases of PubMed, CNKI, VIP and WanFang. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:11 randomized controled trials (RCTs) met the inclusion criteria (two in English, 9 in Chinese), and a total of 394 rats were included in the study. There were significant differences in the lower limb motor function scores (BBB scores) within 1-6 weeks after injury (WMD=-12.86, 95%CI-16.10 to-9.62,P < 0.01) and electrophysiological indices within 4 weeks after injury (WMD=15.36, 95%CI 11.36 to 19.36,P < 0.01) between spinal cord hemisection group and laminectomy group. The BBB scores after 6 weeks were not significantly different between these two groups (WMD=-10.28; 95%CI-24.20 to 3.64;P=0.15). There were significant differences in the lower limb motor function scores (BBB scores) within 1-6 weeks after injury (WMD=

Objective:To observe the effect of three-stage sequential therapy on the functions of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal(HPA)axis and levels of the glucocorticoid receptor in patients with steroid-dependent asthma.Methods:55 patients with SDA were divided randomly into two groups,29 patients were treated with three-stage sequential recipes plus Pulmicort Turbuhaler(400?g/d)in the treatment group, while the other 26 patients with Pulmicort Turbuhaler(800?g/d)in the control group. The therapeutic courses were both 12-14 weeks. The plasma concentrations of ACTH and COR and the levels of PBMC GCR were determined before and after treatment. Results:The plasma concentrations of ACTH and COR and the levels of PBMC GCR in the two groups were all increased remarkably and there were significant difference between the two groups after treatment(P

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2006;26(2):185-7
To investigate p120 catenin mRNA expression in Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) cell lines (U937, Raji, Jurkat and Molt4) and normal lymphocytes and explore the relationship between p120 catenin and Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, total RNA sample was extracted by using TRIzol and reversely transcripted into cDNA. Polymerase chain reaction was performed to detect mRNA expression of p120 catenin in NHL cell lines U937, Raji, Jurkat and Molt4. Normal lymphocytes were used as control. It was found expressions of p120 catenin 1A and 3A mRNA were high in above-mentioned NHL cell lines, but neither p120 catenin 1A nor 3A was found in normal lymphocytes as shown by RT-PCR. It is concluded that both P120ctn1A and P120ctn3A mRNA transcripts were found in all NHL cell lines U937, Raji, Jurkat and Molt4 but they don't exist in normal lymphocytes, suggesting p120ctn possibly is of importance in diagnosis and therapy of lymphoma.
