Objective To evaluate antibiotic therapy for the treatment of intraabdominal infection secondary to severe acute pancreatitis. Methods 39 SAP patients with intraabdominal infection were devided into 2 groups: early infection group (early group) and late infection group (late group) according to the onset time of infection. All patients received imipenem and or surgical treatment, and results were compared between the two groups. Results 83 strains of pathogen were isolated among which Gram negative bacteria accounting for 84%, with a ratio of sensitivity to imipenem of 80%; Gram positive bacteria taking up 16%, all were resistant to imipenem. The cure rate was 53% in eraly group and 86% in late group(P=0.02); The rate of bacteria clearance was 47% in early group and 82% in late group(P=0.02). The survival rate of patients in early group was 77% and in late group was 95%(P=0.08); The reinfection rate in early group was 58% and in late group was 37%(P=0.16). Conclusion Imipenem is effective in the treatment of intraabdominal infection secondary to severe acute pancreatitis, and repeated surgical intervention is still necessary for patietns in early infection group.

Objective To explore any protective effect of hyperbaric oxygen in traumatic brain injury and its effect on the expression of silent information regulator 1 ( SIRT1) . Methods Sixty mice were randomly divided into a control group (n=20), a brain injury group (TBI, n=20) and a hyperbaric oxygen therapy group (TBI+HBO, n=20) . The mice in the TBI and TBI + HBO groups were given massive blows to establish closed brain injuries, while in the control group the scalp was incised and a bone window was removed without brain damage. The mice in the TBI + HBO group were given hyperbaric oxygen treatment twice per day for five days, while those in the TBI and control groups were put in the hyperbaric chamber but not given HBO treatment. At one hour after the trauma and on 5 days afterward, the neurological functioning of the mice was measured to generate neurological severity scores. Brain tissue was resected for triphenyl tetrazolium staining to measure the infarct area. Cortical neurons were isolated to eval-uate the SIRT1 expression using immunofluorescence and Western blotting. Results No significant difference in the average NSS score was observed between the TBI and TBI+HBO groups one hour after modeling. The average NSS score in the TBI group subsequently increased and then decreased gradually until the fifth day. The average NSS score of the TBI+HBO group was significantly lower than that of the TBI group after the onset of the treatment at the differ-ent time points, decreasing to (2.11±0.43) on the 5thday compared with (4.06±0.54) in the TBI+HBO group. On the 2nd day after the trauma, the cerebral infarction areas of the TBI and TBI+HBO groups were significantly larger than in the control group. During the treatment, the infarction area of the TBI+HBO group decreased gradually until on the 5th day it was significantly smaller than that of the TBI group. Traumatic brain injury significantly down-regula-ted SIRT1 protein compared with the control group, but the hyperbaric oxygen therapy significantly increased the ex-pression of SIRT1 compared with the TBI group. Conclusion Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can significantly relieve traumatic brain injury, reducing NSS scores and the infarcted area and enhancing SIRT1 expression, at least in mice.

This paper studied the expert system of genotype discrimination for the STR locus D5S818 based on near-infrared spectroscopy-principal discriminant variate (PDV).Six genotypes,i.e.genotypes 10-10,10-11,11-11,11-12,11-13 and 13-13,were selected as research subjects.Based on the optimum polymerase chain reaction (PCR) conditions, about 54 measuring samples for each genotype were obtained; these samples were tested by near-infrared spectroscopy directly. With differences between homozygote genotypes and heterozygote ones, and differences of the total number of core repeat units between the six genotypes, two types of genotyping-tree structure were constructed and their respective PDV models were studied using the near-infrared spectra of the samples as recognition variables. Finally, based on the classification ability of these two genotyping-tree structures,an optimum expert system of genotype discrimination was built using the PDV models. The result demonstrated that the built expert system had good discriminbility and robustness; without any preprocessing for PCR products, the six genotypes studied could be discriminated rapidly and correctly. It provided a methodological support for establishing an expert system of genotype discrimination for all genotypes of locus D5S818 and other STR loci.

The nanocomposites of poly-diallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDADMAC) and CdTe quantum dots (QDs) (i.e.QDs-PDADMAC nanocomposites) have been prepared based on electrostatic interaction and their fluorescence stability in aqueous solution has been investigated. MTT method(3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazoliumbromide method) was used to study their cytotoxicity and A549 lung cancer cell as a model cell was also used to evaluate their cellular imaging. It was shown that the fluorescence stability of QDs-PDADMAC nanocomposites was much better than that of bare QDs both in aqueous solution and cell.Meanwhile,QDs-PDADMAC nanocomposites display very low cytotoxicity in the low concentrations and better staining ability compared with QDs.QDs-PDADMAC nanocomposites will have great advantage on the cell analysis detection and imaging.

Twenty five new beta-aminoalcohols containing nabumetone moiety were prepared via the reduction of potassium borohydride with a convenient and efficient procedure, starting from beta-aminoketones that have been synthesized by our group. Their chemical structures were determined by IR, MS, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HR-MS and antidiabetic activities were screened in vitro. Preliminary results revealed that the antidiabetic activity of most beta-aminoalcohols were better than that of the corresponding beta-aminoketones. Although most compounds showed weak antidiabetic activity, the alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity of compounds 5hd(1) and 5id(2) reached 74.37% and 90.15%, respectively, which were superior to the positive control. The relative peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor response element (PPRE) activity of five compounds were more than 60%, among them compound 5ca possessed the highest activity (112.59%). As lead molecules of antidiabetic agents, compounds 5hd(1), 5id(2) and 5ca deserve further study.

Objective To evaluate the potential risk of schistosomiasis transmission in the area along the Yangtze River in Yangzhou City,so as to provide evidences for establishing a post?transmission surveillance system for schistosomiasis in marsh?land regions. Methods The water infectivity, floating boatmen and fishermen infection, reservoir host infection and wild feces contamination were investigated in five districts/counties along the Yangtze River in Yangzhou City, including Guangling,Hanji?ang,Jiangdu,Yizheng and Development Zone, and the transmission factors and risky characteristics were assessed after inter?ruption of schistosomiasis transmission in marshland regions. Results A total of 15 key water regions were identified in the area along the Yangtze River in Yangzhou City in 2015. A total of 1 500 sentinel mice were placed, after breeding, their overall sur?vival rate was 99.33%;1 490 were dissected, with no schistosome infection. Of the 5 576 floating boatmen and fishermen exam?ined,no schistosome infection was observed, and among the 3 566 domestic animals(including 171 cattle,1 895 sheep and 1 500 pigs),no infections were detected. During the period between January and March,2016,there were 3 200 mouse traps placed on 8 marshlands, and 62 wild mice were captured from 6 marshlands, with a capture rate of 1.94%,and no schistosome?infected wild mice were seen. In addition, there were 35 pieces of fresh wild feces captured from 7 marshlands, including 11 pieces of bovine feces(31.43%),17 pieces of sheep feces(48.57%),2 pieces of dog feces(5.71%)and 5 pieces of other feces (14.29%),and no infections were detected. Conclusions There is a low risk of schistosomiasis transmission in the area along the Yangtze River in Yangzhou City. However, the contamination of feces from bovine and sheep that are freely pastured on marshlands is a big threat to schistosomiasis control.
