1.Role of heat shock protein in regulation of JNK and apoptosis
Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 2001;17(5):477-180
Cell protection from stresses by heat shock protein (HSP) was previously attributed to its ability to prevent aggregation and to accelerate refolding of damaged proteins. It plays an important role in cell survival after extremely harsh protein damaging treatment leading to necrotic cell death. On the other hand, protein repair function of HSP cannot explain how it protects cell from stresses which do not cause direct protein damage. These stresses kill cell through activation of apoptotic program. Recently it has been found that HSP can meditate suppression of a stress-activated protein kinase, JNK, an early component of stress-induced apoptotic signaling pathway. These observations can provide a basis for HSP's function of anti-apoptosis.

OBJECTIVEThis study aimed to evaluate the influence of loading in different healing periods on implant stability and to establish an animal model of anchorage implant screws.
METHODSAnchorage implant screws were implanted in sheep alveolar bone to establish the implant screw animal model. The animals were randomly divided into four groups: group A, sheep without loading; group B, sheep loaded immediately after implant; group C, sheep loaded after two weeks; and group D, sheep loaded after four weeks. The maxillary and mandibular tissue specimens with implants were dissected. The maxillary tissue specimens were used to make undecalcified bone grinding slices, and the healing mode of the implant-bone interface was observed by light microscope. The maximum shear strength of loose mandibular specimens was measured by a material testing machine. The differences in group data were statistically analyzed. RESULTS 1) A general difference in shear strength exists among the four groups. The shear strengths in groups A and B were lower than those in groups C and D. 2) No significant difference in healing mode was found between the pressure side and the tension side of the longitudinal-grinded bone slices with implants. Both fiber combination and osseointegration of transverse-grinded slices could be found in the interface in all four groups. The major integration mode of the implant-bone interface of groups A and D was osseointegration, whereas that of the implant-bone interface of groups B and C was fibrous tissue transformation. The surrounding bone tissue regenerated toward the implants of group C.
CONCLUSIONResults show that loading time influences the stability of implant anchorage.

Objective Clinical efficacies of angiogenesis and improvement in lower limb ischemia are compared for the transplantation of both the peripheral blood stem cells(PBSC)and bone marrow stem cells(BMSC).Methods A total of 170 patients suffering from lower limb ischemia who received stem cell transplantation were monitored for random comparison study during September 2004 to October 2006.Among them 94 patients were treated with PBSC and 76 were BMSC.All the clinical data and laboratory findings before and after the transplantation in the 1st.12th and 24th weeks were comprehensively evaluated and tested by SPSS 12.0 software package. Results The total number of MNC,CD34+ cells and CD133+ cells in PBSC group was greatly more than BMSC group and had prominent or very prominent variances(P

Objective To define the correlation between nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cell radiosensitivity and gene mutation in the ATM/PI3K coding region. Methods The gene mutation in the ATM/PI3K region of nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell lines which vary in radiosensitivity, was monitored by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT PCR) and fluorescence marked ddNTP cycle sequencing technique. Results No gene mutation was detected in the ATM/PI3K region of either CNE1 or CNE2.Conclusion Disparity in intrinsic radiosensitivity between different NPC cell lines depends on some other factors and mechanism without being related to ATM/PI3K mutations.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2003;0(10):-
Aim To study the effects of D-galactose o n bone of rats. Methods Forty-two Sprague-Dawley rats at age of 3 months with half female and half male were divided into five groups randoml y, basal, OVX or ORX , D-galactose at dose of 50 mg?kg -1?d -1 (L), D-galactose at dose of 100 mg?kg -1?d -1 (M), galactose a t dose of 200 mg?kg -1?d -1 (H).The former two groups were SC inject ed physiological saline and the latter three groups were injected three differen t doses of D-galactose respectively. Two months later the rats were killed by setting blood free from hearts, then the left thighbones and tibias were take n. The tibias were cut at 8 ?m sections for static and dynamic bone histomorph ometric analyses. The thighbones were dried and weighed. All rats were given sc injections of tetracycline 25 mg?kg -1 (first fluorochrome bone marker) on 14 and d 13,and calcein 10 mg?kg -1(second fluorochrome bone marker) on 4 and d 3 before sacrifice. The testicles and the ovaries were taken and made the paraffin slices for observing the microstructure under the microscope. Results D-galactose had no effects on bone of female rats, but can made male rats lose bone significantly and the rats appeared osteoporosis. The static parameters in three different dose male rats bone which relate to bone ma ss %Tb. Ar decreased 53.5%,53.5%,46.6% respectively, Tb.N decreased 42.9%,4 7.6%,38.1% respectively, TB.Sp increased 85%,150%,67.3% respectivly. The dynamic parameters which relate to bone formation %L. Pm decreased 24.1% 89.1% , 65.5% respectively. The convoluted suminiferous tubule disordered, lumens dil ated, and basal membrane disintegrated. Conclusion D-galac tose had different effects on bone of different gender rats. There is no effect on female bone, but it can induce the male rats osteoporosis. The mechanism of D-galactose on bone was probably due to the different effects on gonad glan ds.
