Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology 2014;(13):849-852
This study aimed to explore clinical features of multiple myeloma in patients over 80 years old. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 11 cases of multiple myeloma over 80 years old, which were diagnosed from 2000 to 2013 in our hospital. Results:The mean age was 83.5 years. All patients had more than two complicated diseases, and the performance status was poor in the majority of the patients. Ten cases received individualized treatments. The results showed that three patients had progressed, one patient achieved complete remission, three patients achieved partial remission, and four patients achieved minor remission. Median survival time was 28 months. The causes of death included six progressed myelomas, three pneumonias, and two acute myocardial infarctions. Conclusion: Patients aged 80 years old with myeloma are often at a late stage. Treatment should be individualized based on patient status. Survival time was evidently prolonged in very elderly patients with MM after individualized treatments, particularly in patients in stagesⅠandⅡ.

[Objective] To observe the therapeutic effect of Qingfei Jianpi Decoction (QJD) for the treatment of acne vulgaris (AV) . [Methods] One hundred and five cases of AV were randomized into two groups: group A (n =64) was treated with QJD, a prescription medicine mainly composed of Herba Houttuyniae, Cortex Lycii, Cortex Moutan, Radix Scutellariae, Radix Fici Simplicissimae, Radix Flemingiae Philippinensis, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Poria, etc. , and group B (n=41) with tetracycline for 4 weeks. After treatment, the therapeutic effect, changes of facial lesion and signs, and side effects were observed. A 3-month follow-up was made for the cured patients to investigate the recurrence rate. [Results] Facial lesion and seborrheic degree were relieved in group A, the difference being significant as compared with those before treatment (P0.05 ) . The therapeutic effect was better in group A than that in group B (P

[Objective] To explore the effect of early treatment of Chinese herbal medicine on the long-term prognosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) . [Methods] One hundred and fifty-seven AMI patients were divided into two groups according to the treatment during the hospitalization: 129 patients treated with Chinese herbal medicine and western medicine were in group A, and 28 patients treated with western medicine only were in group B. Statistical analysis of age, sex, infarction location, complications and medical history was made in all of the patients. A follow-up survey was made to investigate the subsistence of the patients and the incidences of all the events (including death and severe cardio-cerebrovascular events) . [Results] With the death as the end event, the survival graph of group A was higher than group B (P=0.1166); when with all the severe events as the end event, the survival graph of group A was still higher ( P=0.048) .[Conclusion] The probability of incidences of severe events including death in group A is lower than that in group B.

Objective To investigate the expression of engulfment and cell motility protein 1 (ELMO1) in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and its effects on cell migration. Methods The expression of ELMO1 in HCC cell lines and HCC tissues was assessed by Western blot.We used transient transfection with an ELMO1 expressing vector to over-express ELMO1 protein in SK-HEP-1 cells.Over-expression of ELMO1 was confirmed by Western blot.siRNAs specific to ELMO1 (ELMO1 siRNA) were used to knockdown ELMO1 expression.Rho Family Small GTPase Activation Assay, Western blots, transwell assay were used to determine the migration potential of cells.Student's test was employed for statistical analysis. Results The expression of ELMO1 protein was obviously up-regulated in HCC tissues and cell lines (P<0.05).Over-expression of ELMO1 promoted cell migration in SK-HEP-1 cells, while knock-down of ELMO1 showed the opposite effect. Conclusion ELMO1 up-regulation significantly correlates with cell migration in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Objective To make a systematic review of pressure ulcers risk factors in critically ill patients. Methods We systematically reviewed all articles related to the pressure ulcers risk factors in critically ill patients. The Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science Core Collection, CNKI, WANFANG and SinoMed were searched to August 2016. Results In total, 13 eligible articles were included. These studies included 18, 184 critically ill patients, six studies were classified as high quality, and seven were classified as moderate quality. Risk factors for the development of pressure ulcers include age, ICU stay, diabetes, mean arterial pressure<60-70 mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa), mechanical ventilation and mechanical ventilation, drugs, sedation and postural changes. Conclusions There is no single factor that can explain the occurrence of pressure ulcers. So it is in a variety of factors interaction, the occurrence of a significant increase in risk.
