Objective:To investigate the diagnosis and therapy of space-occupying lesion of middle skull base involving sphenoid sinus.Method:A retrospective analysis was performed. Eighteen patients with extradural space-occupying lesion of middle skull base involving sphenoid sinus underwent transnasal endoscopic surgery.Result:One case of primary empty sella turcica was misdiagnosed as sphenoidal sinus cyst. One case of fibrous dysplasia and one case of meningioma were all misdiagnosed as mycotic sphenoiditis. Total rate of misdiagnosis was 16.7%.Among the 18 cases, 17 cases underwent complete resection of the lesion, and only 1 case underwent major resection of the lesion. The amount of blood loss during surgery ranged between 100 ml and 2500 ml.One case had bacterial meningitis which was cured after corresponding treatment. One case was blind in both eyes. And the other case died of pulmonary embolism. Conclusion:Transnasal endoscopic surgery is feasible and practical to treat benign space-occupying lesion of sphenoidal sinus and extradural lesion of middle skull base involving sphenoidal sinus. Definite diagnosis, accurate location and careful operation are important to complete the surgery successfully.

OBJECTIVETo explore the relationship between salivary proteome and dental caries and to promote the biomarker studies of dental caries susceptibility by comparing the salivary proteome of caries-active children and caries-free children with electrospray ionization ion-trap tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS).
METHODSTen caries-active children and ten caries-free children were sampled. The salivary proteome of the two groups was studied, and the differential protein between the two groups was analyzed by ESI-MS/MS after sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, filter-aided sample preparation, and liquid chromatography.
RESULTSThe concentration of salivary protein was higher in the caries-active group than in the caries-free group. The polypeptide counts of thecaries-active and caries-free groups were 602 and 481, which belonged to 286 and 227 proteins, respectively. The differential polypeptide count of the two groups was 361, and the differential protein count was 118. The detected proteins included matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9), mucin-7 (MUC7), lactotransferrin (LTF), carbonic anhydrase 6 (CA6), azurocidin (AZU), and cold agglutinin.
CONCLUSIONThe total salivary protein was higher in the caries-active group than in the caries-free group. The preliminary detection of differential proteins (MMP9, MUC7, LTF, CA6, AZU, and cold agglutinin) may lay some foundation for biomarker research of dental caries susceptibility.

Objective To identify the role of microRNA-17(miR-17)in human glioma U87 cells invasion which may regulate expression of matriv metalloproteinase(MMP)-2.Methods U87 cells were cultured in vitro, while changes in cellular morphology were observed by phase contrast microscope. The miR-17 which might regulate the expression of MMP-2 was predicted by bioinformatics and identified using dual luciferase report system.Expressions of miR-17 and MMP-2 were determined using real-time PCR and Western blot after transfection of miR-17 mimics. The invasion of U87 cells was detected in vitro by Transwell chamber. Results Expression of MMP-2 was positive by immunofluorescence cytochemistry. Using dual luciferase reporter system,miR-17 could inhibit the expression of MMP-2 by binding to its mRNA 3′UTR. Results of real-time PCR and Western blot showed that over-expression of miR-17 down-regulated expression of MMP-2. The invasion of U87 cells was suppressed by over-expression of miR-17.Conclusion MiR-17 may negatively regulate expression of MMP-2 in human glioma U87 cells and inhibit cell invasion.
