AIM: To explore the neuroprotective action of progesterone(PROG), which has been proved to be a "neuroactive steroid". METHODS: The model of focal cerebral ischemia was established in rats by reverserble inserting a nylon thread with a diameter of 0.2 mm into the anterior cerebral artery through the internal carotid artery. The effect of PROG was assessed by determining water, sodium, potassium, and calcium contents in striatum of rats subjected to 2 h ischemia followed by 22 h reperfusion. RESULTS: The water, sodium, and calcium contents of middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO) striatum were obviously higher, the potassium content was obviously lower than those of non-MCAO striatum in I/R and DMSO groups, but there was no significant difference between these two groups.Compared with the result in I/R and DMSO groups , water, sodium and calcium contents significantly decreased, but potassium(P0.05). CONCLUSION: Treatment with PROG can significantly reduce the striatal injury of rats with cerebral ischmia-reperfusion.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Ala-Gln induced heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) expression on myocardial ifbrosis and connexin43 (Cx43) remodeling in experimental rats’ model.
Methods: A total of 32 SPF male SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups:①Control group,②Model group, the rats received isoprenaline (ISO) 5m/(kg·d),③Intervention group, the rats received ISO+Ala-Gln 0.75mg/(kg·d),④Quercetin group, the rats received ISO+quercetin 100mg/(kg·d)+Ala-Gln+DMSO. n=8 in each group. All animals were treated for 7 days and killed in 4 weeks for relevant examinations. HE and Masson staining was conducted to observe myocardial ifbrosis, then calculate collagen volume fraction; immunohistochemistry was applied to measure myocardial HSP70 expression,
extracellular signal regulated kinase (p-ERK1/2) and Cx43 distribution, then conduct semi-quantitative analysis by speciifc soft ware.
Results: HE and Masson staining indicated that Control group had no obvious myocardial ifbrosis, Model group and Quercetin group had obvious ifbrosis, and Intervention group showed less ifbrosis than the other 2 groups, all P<0.01. The fibrosis level was similar between Intervention group and Control group, P>0.05. The myocardial HSP70 expression was similar among Control, Model and Quercetin groups, P>0.05, while HSP70 expression was signiifcantly higher in Intervention group than the other 3 groups, all P<0.01. The myocardial p-ERK1/2 level was lower in Intervention group than Model and Quercetin groups, all P<0.01. The myocardial Cx43 level was similar between Control group and Intervention group with linear distribution, while it was higher in Intervention group than Model and Quercetin groups with disordered distribution, all P<0.01.
Conclusion: Ala-Gln inducing the higher expression of HSP70, which may reduce myocardial ifbrosis in experimental rats, it could be because of HSP70 down regulating p-ERK1/2 expression and inhibiting ERK signaling pathway.

Objective To observe the application effect of the risk of ovarian malignancy algorithm(ROMA)in screening ovarian cancer among high risk population. Methods The human epididymis protein 4(HE4)and carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125 )were detected in 1 753 cases of high risk for overian cancer,56 cases of ovarian cancer(positive control)and 60 healthy people, patients. Then the ROMA value was calculated in combination with the subject′s menstruation status. The detection results were analyzed and compared among groups. The high risk group for ovarian cancer devided according to the ROMA value was further performed the confirmatory test and the low risk group was monitored by follow up.The detection rates of ovarian cancer were compared be-tween the two subgroups. Results In the high risk population, the diagnostic performance of the ROMA value for ovarian cancer was superior to that of the single HE4 or CA125;the ROMA value had statistically significant difference between the high risk sub-group in the high-risk population with ovarian cancer or the healthy control group(P <0.05);in 1 753 cases of high risk popula-tion,37 cases were included in the high risk subgroup,in which 3 cases of ovarian cancer were screened out and in clinical early stage. The detection rate of ovarian cancer in the high risk subgroup was 8.1%.No case of ovarian cancer was detected out in the low risk subgroup. Conclusion The ROMA value is conducive to early screening for ovarian cancer in the high risk population, which can save the medical cost and increase the detection rate.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic progressive fibrous interstitial lung disease of unknown etiology. IPF is also considered to be among the independent risk factors for lung cancer, increasing the risk of lung cancer by 7% and 20%. The incidence of IPF complicated with lung cancer, especially non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), is increasing gradually, but there is no consensus on unified management and treatment. IPF and NSCLC have similar pathological features. Both appear in the surrounding area of the lung. In pathients with IPF complicated with NSCLC, NSCLC often develops from the honeycomb region of IPF, but the mechanism of NSCLC induced by IPF remains unclear. In addition, IPF and NSCLC have similar genetic, molecular and cellular processes and common signal transduction pathways. The universal signal pathways targeting IPF and NSCLC will become potential therapeutic drugs for IPF complicated with NSCLC. This article examines the main molecular mechanisms involved in IPF and NSCLC and the research progress of drugs under development targeting these signal pathways.
