2.Aortic regurgitation:assessment with dual-source CT
Journal of Practical Radiology 2015;(3):384-387
Objective To explore the feasibility and accuracy of dual-source CT (DSCT)in evaluating aortic regurgitation (AR). Methods Among 78 patients who underwent both DSCT and TTE,38 patients were diagnosed as AR and 40 without AR served as controls.Maximum regurgitant orifice area (ROA)in diastole was planimetrically measured with DSCT,and measurements were compared with semiquantitative classification of TTE.Results DSCT correctly identified 37 patients with AR.Compared with TTE,two patients were false positive and three patients were false negative findings by DSCT (sensitivity 92%,specificity 95%, positive predictive value 94%,and negative predictive value 93%).ROA measured by DSCT (0.32 cm2 ±0.44 cm2 )was signifi-cantly correlated with TTE classification (r=0.85,P<0.01).With receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, discrimination between degrees of AR with DSCT was high accurate when using cutoff ROAs of 0.08 cm2 and 0.58 cm2 .Conclusion Planimetric measurement of ROA with DSCT is accurate for the quantitative evaluation of AR.

Chinese Journal of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Diseases 2015;33(4):309-312
OBJECTIVETo explore the quantitative relationship between the dust mass concentration and fiber number concentration of refractory ceramic fibres.
METHODSA typical refractory ceramic fiber plant was selected as the study site. Fifty-three paired samples of total dust mass concentration and fiber number concentration were collected using the long-time fixed site mode. The total dust mass concentration was measured according to the GBZ/T 192.1-2007 (Measurement of dust in the air of workplace, part 1: Total dust concentration). Membrane filter method/phase-contrast optical microscopy was used to determine the fiber number concentration. Univariate analysis was used to describe the distribution of the two concentrations and their ratio. Spearman rank correlation, as well as linear regression, logarithmic curve, polynomial, power function, and exponential curve model, were used to explore the relationship between the two concentrations. Results The range of the total dust mass concentration (x) was 0.45-13.82 mg/m3. The range of the fiber number concentration (y) was 0.01-1.04 f/ml. The range of the ratio (x/y) was 4-158. All of the three parameters did not follow normal distribution (P<0.000 1). The two concentrations showed a positive correlation (r,=0.705 22, P< 0.000 1). All the coefficients of determination (R2) of linear regression, logarithmic curve, polynomial, power function, and exponential curve model were relatively low. The trinomial curve model had the highest R2 (0.6848) and the fitted equation was y=-0.001, 1x+0.010 4x2+0.101 4x-0.055 1.
CONCLUSIONThere is a positive correlation between the total dust mass concentration and fiber number concentration of refractory ceramic fibers. However, there is no fixed regression relationship between the two concentrations, and neither is a definite coefficient which can be used to convert each other. The two concentrations cannot be replaced by each other.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2014;(1):51-56
BACKGROUND:Tissue and cellimplantation entails high-quality seed cells. In order to satisfy this requirement, it is crucial to produce adequate wel-conditioned, high-purity and strong proliferation ability bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells.
OBJECTIVE:To establish a simple, rapid and effective in vitro isolation and culture method of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells, and to define the biological features of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells.
METHODS:Rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were isolated from the bilateral tibial and femoral bones by the method of whole bone marrow, then purified and passaged by attachment method. The morphology and features of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were observed, the growth curve was drawn and the cellsurface antigen was detected by flow cytometry. The bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were induced to differentiate along the osteogenic, chondrogenic and adipogenic lineages.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells isolated by the whole bone marrow adherence method grew vigorously and were highly purified. The cultured cells were spindle-shaped. The growth curve was S-shaped and the population doubling time was 29 hours. The cells stil maintained a strong proliferative capacity after they were passaged for 10 generations. The surface markers such as CD44, CD29, CD90 were positive, while CD45, CD34, CD11b were negative. At the third passage, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were induced to differentiate along the osteogenic, chondrogenic and adipogenic lineages, respectively. Fol owing induction, Alizarin red staining, alkaline phosphatase staining, von-kossa mineralized nodules staining, toluidine blue staining, and oil red O staining were al positive. This shows that the whole bone marrow adherence method is a simple and reliable method for the in vitro isolation, culture and proliferation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. Moreover, they have multi-lineage differentiation capacity under different inducers. The third passage bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells have the highest biological activity and can act as the ideal seed cells for subsequent experiments.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2015;29(9):792-796
OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a short course of nebulized budesonide via transnasal inhalation in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps.
METHOD:
Fifty patients with severe eosinophilic nasal polyps were randomized devided into study group (n = 25) and control group (n = 25). The study group received budesonide inhalation suspension (1 mg twice daily) via transnasal nebulization for one week and the control group received oral prednisone (24 mg QD). Visual analogue scales (VAS) of nasal symptoms, endoscopic polyp scores (kennedy scores) and morning serum cortisol concentrations were assessed in both groups pre- and post-treatment. Operation time and surgical field bleeding were evaluated.
RESULT:
Four subjects dropped out in control group. Budesonide transnasal nebulization caused a significant improvement in all nasal symptoms especially nasal obstruction (baseline: 8.25 ± 0.53; after treatment: 4.97 ± 0.97, P < 0.01) and reduced polyp size significantly (baseline: 4.64 ± 0.63; after treatment: 3.40 ± 0.76, P < 0.01) compared to pre-treatment. The patients treated with oral prednisone, however, showed more obvious improvement in nasal symptoms and polyp size, shorter operation time and better surgical field than budesonide group. Additionally, the morning serum cortisol concentration was mildly decreased after one week treatment in budesonide group [baseline (17.18 ± 2.83) μg/dl, after treatment (16.24 ± 2.93) μg/dl, P > 0.05], but all values were still located in normal range (normal range: 5-25 μg/dl). Conversely, the morning serum cortisol concentration in oral prednisone group was lower than normal limit [baseline (18.19 ± 2.81) μg/dl, after treatment (2.26 ± 0.70) μg/dl, P < 0.01].
CONCLUSION
Twice daily budesonide transnasal nebulization is an effective and safe treatment as evidenced by significant improvements in nasal symptoms and reduction in polyp size, coupled with an absence of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression, which is safer than the systemic corticosteroids. Budesonide transnasal nebulization offers a viable treatment option for CRSwNP before operation.

Chinese Journal of Minimally Invasive Surgery 2005;0(09):-
Objective To compare the effect of allogeneic and autologous blood transfusion on postoperative immunoreaction in patients after spinal surgeries. Methods A total of 44 patients undergoing spinal operations were randomly divided into two groups.Allogeneic (n=22) or autologous (n=22) buffy-coat-depleted red cells were used in the patients during the operations. The serum levels of IL-6,IFN-?,and TNF-?were determined preoperatively and then re-measured 1 and 7 days after the operations. Results In theautologous group, both IFN-?and IL-6 increased after the oprerations, the level of IL-6 was significantly higher than that in the allogeneic group at days 1 and 7.The concentration of TNF-?did not change after the surgeries in the two groups. Conclusions By autologous blood transfusion, the serum levels of IFN-?and IL-6 can be increased significantly after spinal operation, meanwhile the concentration of TNF-?remains stable. The postoperative inhibitory effect of the procedure on immunocytokines is significantly weaker than that of allogeneic blood transfusion, indicating that autologous blood transfuion can protect or even increase immunofunction after spinal operation.
