Objective To study the effect of chitosan on the growth of the in vitro cultured retinal nerve cells. Methods The retinal nerve cells of SD baby rats were cultured in vitro. The effects of chitosan at 0.065%,1.25%,2.5%,5%,10%,15% on the growth of the retinal nerve cells were measured by MTT method. The blank control group was created. Results 1.25%,2.5%,5%,and 10% chitosan could obviously promote the growth of retinal nerve cells,and 10% chitosan was the optimal concentration for the growth of nerve cells. Conclusion Chitosan can effectively promote the growth of retinal nerve cells,and it is necessary to undertake the further study of Chitosan.

Objective:To observe the efficacy of acupuncture plus tuina therapy for insomnia.
Methods:Totally 100 eligible patients were randomized into a treatment group (n=51) and a control group (n=49) by using the random number table. The treatment group was intervened by acupuncture at Baihui (GV 20), Fengchi (GB 20), Wangu (GB 12), Shenting (GV 24), Anmian [Extra, locates at the midpoint between Yiming (EX-HN 14) and Fengchi (GB 20)], and Neiguan (PC 6) plus tuina treatment; the control group was intervened by acupuncture alone. For both groups, the treatment was given once a day, 10 sessions as a treatment course, and the efficacies were evaluated and compared after 3 treatment courses.
Results:Of the 51 subjects in the treatment group, 46 cases completed 3 treatment courses, and 17 cases were cured, 18 cases showed marked efficacy, 7 cases were improved, 4 cases had invalid result, and the total effective rate was 91.3%. Of the 49 subjects in the control group, 46 cases completed 3 treatment courses, and 8 cases were cured, 12 cases showed marked efficacy, 14 cases were improved, 12 cases had invalid result, and the total effective rate was 73.9%. The total effective rate of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05).
Conclusion:Acupuncture plus tuina can calm the mind and activate meridian qi in treating insomnia, and it can produce a more significant efficacy than pure acupuncture treatment.

AIM: To evaluate posterior capsular opacification (PCO) with hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lens (IOL, Sensar AR40e) and silicone IOLs after cataract surgery, to use a software program developed to provide an objective assessment of the amount of PCO in the digital images of the posterior capsule to quantify PCO. METHODS: Ninety-eight eyes underwent standardized phacoemulsification and "in the bag" IOL placement, were randomized to receive a three piece lens of hydrophobic acrylic or silicone, but lens materials were different in one case. In year 1 and 2, digitized retro-illumination images were taken from the posterior capsule. Images were analyzed by POCO software program, removing the Purkinje light reflexes, contrast enhancement, filtering to enhance low-density PCO. RESULTS: The percentage of PCO were 0.32±0.13 of hydrophobic acrylic IOLs in year 1, compared with 0.39±0.17 of silicone (P=0.37). In year 2, the percentage of PCO were 0.42±0.20 with hydrophobic acrylic IOLs and 0.34±0.18 with silicone IOLs (P=0.50). Of those patients with PCO in year 1 and 2, severity grades were 0.50±0.30 and 0.82±0.58 of hydrophobic acrylic cases, compared with 0.63±0.35 and 0.55±0.35 of patients with silicone IOLs (P=0.52,P=0.69) with no statistical significance.CONCLUSION: The POCO system is capable of producing an objective and repeatable measure of PCO that is relevant to assessing techniques of PCO prevention.

Late in-the-bag dislocation of intraocular lens bag complex is a rare but potential complication after cataract surgery,which can affect the quality of patients'life seriously,and usually need surgical treatment.People are paying more attention to this complication,because it has been reported with increasing frequency in recent years.This complication may present after a long time frame.There is a research showing that the interval between cataract surgery and the dislocation was 10.9 years.The cumulative risk of IOL dislocation at 10 years,20 years,and 25 years after cataract extraction was 0.1％,0.7％,and 1.7％ respectively.Late in-the-bag IOL dislocation is a result of progressive zonular dehiscence up to many years after cataract surgery,and its genesis is multifactorial.This article reviews the incidence,possible mechanism and risk factors of late in-the-bag IOL dislocation.

Objective To evaluate the mult iphase hepatic CT scan for detecting the hypervascular hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by using multidetector row helical CT (MDCT). Methods Multiphase hepatic CT scan of the liver in 40 patients with HCC was carried out with Marconi 8000 multidetector row helical CT scanner .The early arterial phase scan, late arterial phase scan, and portal venous phase scan were started at 20 s, 34 s, and 80 s after the injection of contrast medium, respectively. The numbers of the detected lesions were calculated in each phase. The density values of the liver and tumor were measured for HCC ≥1 cm, and the density difference values of the liver and tumor in each phase were statistically calculated and analyzed. Results The study showed that a total of 61 lesions was found in 40 cases, and the lesions ≥ 1 cm were 47. Objective To study the relationship between the renal hemodynamic changes and the course of the liver diseases and demonstrate weather the renal blood flow resistance index(RI)could be a useful index used to predict the hepatorenal syndrome(HRS)in the decompensated cirrhosis.Methods Select 41 patients diagnosed as decompensated cirrhosis from the patients examined by color Doppler ultrasonography at the Infectious Disease Department of Peking University First Hospital from April 2004 to July 2006.Test the serum creatinine,serum total bilirubin and INR,confirm the cause of the cirrhosis,and then calculate the MELD score.Detect by color Doppler ultrasonography to get RI.Results No correlation was found between RI and the patients's age,hemoglobin and systolic pressure.RI was found to be directly related with MELD score(r= 0.502,P

Objective To study the relation of leptin,TNF-? in serum of patients with metabolic syndrome and its components.Methods Test leptin and TNF-? level of residents over 20 years old in two communities in Harbin City,grouping case-control study base on the constitutive ratio of actual age.Results Leptin was associated with obesity,and the higher leptin levels,the higher risk of suffering from metabolic syndrome.The relationship between leptin levels and metabolic syndrome was affected by age and gender.The lower level of TNF-?,the higher risk of metabolic syndrome.The patients with lower level of TNF-? were 1.859 times more likely to suffer from disease compared with people with higher level.Conclusion The effects of high level of leptin are significant on metabolic syndrome,especially for old males,and are associated with obesity component.TNF-? is related to plasma glucose and blood presure,and is good for metabolic syndrome,but its biological mechenism should be researched continuously.
