Our descriptive-analytic observation study about clinical manifestations of SARS was performed on total 34 patients admitted to National Institute for Research on Tropical Medicine, Hanoi, Vietnam. There were one patient with COPD and another patient with hypertensive heart failure. The mean age is 37.4 14.4 (18-76), males (13/34 (38.2%) and females 21/34 (61.8%). The mean incubation time is 8.73.6 (2-16) days. The common signs and symptoms are fever (100%), fatigue (94%), dry cough (67.6%, myalgia (55.9%), abnormal lung sounds (52.9%), headache (50%), chest pain (50%). There were 13/34 patients with diarrhea (38.2%), 8/34 with conjunctival and integumental congestion (23.5%), 5/34 with coryza (11.8%) and 2/34 with productive cough (5.9%), 11 severe patients had marked findings of respiratory failure with tachypnea, SpO2< 85% and abundant abnormal lung sounds, including 4 patients required BiPAP ventilation support. The mean age of these severe patients (48.714.7) is significantly higher than of remaining patients (32.011.0) with p value=0.0008. All patients have survived and have no fever after 10.5 days on average. In conclusion: the clinical manifestations of SARS patients in our study are not specific as fever caused by other common virus except findings of respiratory failure and the diagnosis should base on epidemiologic factors and chest X-ray imaging. The old age and reparatory failure degree may be factors associated with progressive disease.

PURPOSE: This study examined the relationships among menopausal symptom, self-efficacy, health promoting behaviors, and investigated factors affecting health promoting behaviors of teachers with middle-aged women experiencing menopause. METHODS: From September to October 2012, a convenience sample of 252 subjects aged 40 to 60 years was recruited from 8 elementary schools, 3 middle schools and 5 high schools. The data analysis was done by ANOVA and stepwise multiple regression. RESULTS: Menopausal symptom of subjects was slightly lower than general middle aged women and the average level of health promoting behaviors was similar to general middle aged women. Health promoting behaviors were differentiated by severity of menopausal symptom, not by menstruation state. Menopausal symptom was negatively related to health promoting behaviors. The most significant factor affecting health promoting behaviors was self efficacy (14.3%). The combination of self efficacy, menopausal symptom, and elementary school teachers accounted for 20.1% of health promoting behavior. CONCLUSION: When developing health promotion program for teachers with middle-aged women, such program should consider self-efficacy, menopausal symptom, and school type.

It has been well known for a long time that Rhus species are belonged botanically to same family called family Anacardacea and their allergenic components are identical because it contains 3-pentadecyl catechol. However, Mason (1954) and some investigators suggest the possibility that some individuals may be sensitive to a component of the oleoresin other than 3-pentadecyl catechol. By this suggestion, author performed the patch test on 138 individuals with 4 species of Korean Rhus tree (Rhus verniciflua, Rhus trichocarpa, Rhus javanica, and Rhus sylvestris.) and observed the incidence of latent sensitivity to dry leaves of Rhus trees and urushiol, The patch test results on sensitivity to Rhus verniciflua, Rhus trichocarpa, Rhus javanica, and Rhus sylvestris showed 35.50%, 27.53%, 21.01%. 28. 26%, and 29. 71% respectively and these results could make the suggestion that cross sensitivity between each Rhus trees are few and a certain specific antigenic component may be contained in every Rhus tree leaves. On animal experiment concerning the basic study for the extraction of Rhus tree antigen, author could easily sensitize the guinea pig with urushiol but couldn't challenge these animal with methanol aceton extract of Rhus leaves. From these findings, author proposed that Korean Rhus trees are different immunologically to poison ivy tree antigen and a certain specificities of antigeniciy contain in each Korean Rhus. But this postulation will need further experimental study as multiple step fractionation with Rhus tree.

Tarsal tunnel syndrom is characterized by pain, paresthesias in the foot in either the entire distribution of the tibial nerve or the distribution of one or two of its major branches and caused by compression of the posterior tibial nerve as it passes posterior and inferior to the medial malleolus. This syndrome is not recognized as readily as its counterpart in the upper extremity, the carpal tunnel syndrome. Anatomically unlike the transv erse carpal ligament the laciniate ligament(flexor retinaculum) has several deep fibrous septa which blend with the periosteum covering the medial side of the calcaneus. The neurovascular bundle in the tarsal tunnel is often attached to some of these septa, rendering itself more liable to minor degrees of traction on movements of the foot. A case of tarsal tunnel syndrome, the patient 24 years old policeman, treated succesfully with surgical release of laciniate ligament is reported.

The treatment of open tibial fracture has become one of the most controversial subjects in orthopedic surgery. Recently flexible intramedullary nails have been used successfully in treatment of Type I, II open fractures of the tibial shaft. In this paper we are reporting our experience with the method in 20 open fractures of the tibia in 18 patients. The results were ss follows. 1. The patients were predominantly more common in male(90%) and the average age was 42.7 years old and the most common cause of fracture was traffic accident. 2. The most common site and shape were at midshaft and comminuted fracture. 3. With early operation the incidence of infection was greatly reduced and wound healing was relatively rapid. 4. The patients were applied with long leg or P.T.B. cast for at least 4 weeks in order to the prevention of re-displacement. 5. The average healing time was 17.7 weeks in 14 cases and union was most rapid at upper third and Type I fractures. 6. The complication was developed in 14 cases, 3 cases of delayed union, nonunion and ankle stiffness was seen respectively. 7. Infection rate was greatly reduced because Ender's nailing procedure was easy to perform, operation time was shortened, good fixation and alignment of fracture fragment was done without periosteal stripping. 8. Ender's nailing is considered to be a good method in the treatment of open tibial fracture associated with soft tissue injurv and multiole iniuries.

Low back pain patients an controls of shipyard workers were surveyed between June 1995 and september 1995 to identify risk factors of industrial low back pain. The patients were 17 male workers who had got medical treatment for over 3 days because of industrial back pain controls were 51 male workers who had not have musculoskeletal disorder for one year before the survey. By univariate analysis, the workers who did overtime work 4 times or more for the last 2 weeks showed odds ratio of 3.67 on low back pain with the workers who did less overtime work. Carrying heavy materials was also associated with the low back pain and the odds ratio increased with the increase of carrying weight. work space and work posture were not associated with the low back pain significantly. The welder had higher odds ratio than the other workers on low back pain. The duration of employment and job satisfaction did not affect the risk of low back pain. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that frequency of overtime work for the last 2 weeks and carrying heavy materials among the risk factors were associated significantly with the low back pain. We found that important risk factors of low back pain of shipyard workers are work intensity factors such as overtime work and carrying heavy weight.
