3.EEG feature extraction based on quantum particle swarm optimizer and independent component analysis.
Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2014;31(3):502-505
Feature extraction is a very crucial step in P300-based brain-computer interface (BCI) and independent component analysis (ICA) is a suitable P300 feature extraction method. But at present the convergence performance of the general ICA iteration methods are not very satisfactory. In this paper, a method based on quantum particle swarm optimizer (QPSO) algorithm and ICA technique is put forward for P300 extraction. In this method, quantum computing is used to impel ICA iteration to globally converge faster. It achieved the purpose of extracting P300 rapidly and efficiently. The method was tested on two public datasets of BCI Competition II and III, and a simple linear classifier was employed to classify the extracted P300 features. The recognition accuracy reached 94.4% with 15 times averaged. The results showed that the proposed method could extract P300 rapidly and the extraction effect did not reduce. It provides an experimental basis for further study of real-time BCI system.

Chinese Journal of Medical Aesthetics and Cosmetology 2014;20(3):186-189
Objective To investigate the clinical effect of plastic surgery of double-palpebra with reposition of lacrimal gland for blepharochalasis. Methods We operated on 10 cases (20 eyes) with dermatolysis palpebrarum which stopped attack and was static for more than one year.A double eyelid fold incision was made. Then redundant skin and sphincter palpebrarum as well as protrusion of intraorbital fat were removed. In the operation of dislocation of lacrmial gland we sewed up lacrmial gland in full thickness and fixed it to the periosteum of lacrmial fossa, and the levator muscle of upper eye lid aponeurosis prothesis or plication was choosed when the levator muscle of upper eye lid aponeurosis was broken or not.And for the shorted transverse diameter of coloboma of eye lid we sewed up the external palpebral ligament and fixed it to the periosteum of lateral orbital margin. Results All the 10 patients got satisfactory therapeutic effect, the cutis laxa had been amended obviously, the good upper double eyelid shape could be achieved, the reposition of lacrimal gland was finished, lapsus palpebrae superioris and shorted transverse diameter of coloboma of eye lid had been rectified satisfactorily. All cases we followed up for three monthes to one year, and dislocation of lacrmial gland had been amended in one case, others had been reposited well, without recurrence. Conclusions Blepharochalasis can be effectively treated by surgery, and it is convenient and effective to treat dislocation of lacrimal gland and blepharochalasis through a double eyelid fold incision. This multiple surgical treatment is not only a curative operation but also a cosmetic surgery.
5.Pathological changes of brain tissues from contused and contralateral non-contused sides and their significance
Chinese Journal of Trauma 2014;30(8):827-830
Objective To investigate the pathological changes of brain tissues from contused and contralateral non-contused sides and their significance. Methods A total of 100 healthy adult Wistar rats were assigned to brain contusion group and sham operation group according to the random number table.Ten rats in each group were sacrificed at 1,3,6,12,and 24 hours respectively.Brain samples were collected to perform pathophysiological analysis of brain tissues and test blood brain barrier (BBB)permeability by semiquantitative immunohistochemical staining of IgG.Results There was no damage to the bilateral brain tissues in sham operation group and IgG stain was negative. In brain contusion group, angioedema characterized by the breakdown of BBB was seen in the contused side at 1 hour followed by cellular edema at 3 hours, with aggravation of both over time. Moreover, tissue necrosis, inflammatory cell infiltration, and microglia proliferation emerged at 12 hours.Besides,IgG-positive staining was seen at 1 hour, was strongest at 6 hours, and remained a high level at 24 hours. With respect to the non-injured side in brain contusion group,no pathological abnormalities and negatively stained IgG were observed at 1 hour; cellular edema and weakly positive-stained IgG were found at 3 hours; aggravated cellular edema, emergence of angioedema, and IgG strongly positive staining were noted at 6 hours;cellular edema continued aggravation, but angioedema tended to be attenuated,IgG staining weakened, and microglia proliferation were observed at 12-24 hours. Conclusion Pathological changes of brain tissues from the contused and contralateral non-contused sides are differed, which provides a basis in determining treatment choices.
6.Bacterial isolates and in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility in blepharitis
Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2015;33(7):642-645
Background Blepharitis is an induce factor for multiple ocular surface diseases.Research showed that bacteria play an important role in the pathogenesis of blepharitis. To make sure the pathogenic bacteria and effective antimicrobial agents are of clinical significance for the prevention and treatment of blepharitis. Objective The purpose of this study was 1o investigate the bacterial isolates of conjunctival sac secretion and meibomian secretion in the patients with blepharitis and study their in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility. Methods Forty-five patients with anterior blepharitis and 45 cases with posterior blepharitis were included in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital from December 2006 to December 2012,and 45 patients for laser in situ keratomileusis were enrolled in the same period as control group. The secretions of the conjunctival sac and meibomian were collected with sterile cotton swab, and bacterial isolates were cultured in bouillon culture-medium.The number of eyes with different bacteria was examined and calculated. Then the bacteria were switched to blood agar plates, and antimicrobial susceptibility test to erythromycin, gentamicin, tobramycin, rifampin, levofloxacin were performed by M ueller Hinton (M-H) medium paper method. Results The total germiculture positive rates were 81.1%,76.1% and 65.0% in the anterior blepharitis group, posterior blepharitis group and the control group, showing a significant difference among them (x2 =12.80,P=0.00).The germiculture positive rates in meibomian secretion were 84.4% and 78.8% in the anterior blepharitis group and the posterior blepharitis group, which were significantly higher than 67.8% in the control group (x2=7.30,P =0.03).There was no statistically significant difference in the germiculture positive rate of conjunctival sac section among the three groups (77.8%,73.3% and 62.2%) (x2 =5.60,P=0.06).The main bacteria in conjunctival sac secretion and meibomian secretion were staphylococcus epidermidis, staphylococcus aureus and corynebacterium in all the subjects, but streptococcus pneumoniae and gram-negative bacillus were not detected in the control group.Staphylococcus showed the highest susceptibility to gentamicin, tobramycin and rifampicin, with the sensitive rate >70%.Corynebacterium was susceptible to various drugs.Streptococcus pneumoniae had susceptibility to erythromycin and tobramycin.However,Gram-negative bacillus was not susceptible to all the drugs above. Conclusions Bacteria participate in the pathogenesis of blepharitis, but the germiculture positive rate, bacterial species and drug susceptibility of bacteria are obviously different between patients with blepharitis and normal population.Reasonable application of antimicrobial agents is important to blepharitis.
7.Influence factors and strategies of anti-VEGF therapy for wet AMD
Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2016;34(1):1-4
Neovascular age-related macular degeneration is also known as wet age-related macular degeneration (wAMD) , which is now one of potentially blinding diseases in elder population worldwide. The application of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) drugs is becoming the first-line therapy for wAMD at present. However, during the long-term follow up, we find that the vision of some patients dose not improve even falls after treatment, or the vision is unable to keep for a long term after its improvement.Hence,to find the key factors that affect the therapeutical effect is the focus issue nowadays. There are many factors that affect wAMD curative effect, including the limitation of drug itself, the personal conditions of the patients, the features of the choriodal neovascularization (CNV) , the formulation and implementation of the treatment regimen, etc.Imaging features of CNV and treatment timing can serve as the available indexs to analyze the prognosis. In addition, reasonable and optimized managing regimens for wAMD probably is an approach to improve the treating effect.Understanding of the factors that affect curative effect of wAMD is benefit for us to setup the individualized therapy and achieve the best vision.Ophthalmologists should fully recognize the importance of wAMD individualized treatment and management.
8.Choice of current approaches to the management of diabetic macular edema
Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2016;34(12):1061-1064
Diabetic macular edema (DME) is the most common reason for visual impairment in diabetic eye diseases.DME is easy to relapse and the treatment outcome is beyond satisfied.Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) therapy has been proposed to be a first-line or key treatment regimen in the management guideline for DME.However,in clinical practice, there still are many ambiguous and controversial views in the choice and implement of different managing paradigms, including the therapeutical goal, the assessment of treatment effectiveness, the explanation of the guidelines, the regimen of anti-VEGF therapy, the value evaluation of laser photocoagulation, the use of steroids and the management of recurrent DME.Recently, the researches of treating drugs for DME are developing and making a great progress,so eye doctors should track the research results, improve the therapeutical regimen, fully understand the advantages and disadvantages of different treating methods and standardize the treatment process in order to release the best treatment effects on DME.

10.The variation of ADC values and pathological change in non-injured side tissues of traumatic brain injury of rat
Journal of Practical Radiology 2014;(6):1026-1029,1034
Objective This study was designed to investigate the correlation between the apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)value and pathological change of the non-injured side brain tissue of traumatic brain injury(TBI)of rat. Methods Sixty healthy adult Wist-ar rats were randomly divided into two groups:the control or TBI groups. The TBI group was divided into five sub-groups according to the different time intervals:1,3,6,12,24 h(n = 10).The animal brain of each group was scanned with MR-DWI,and the ADC value of damaged areas and contralateral non-damaged areas were measured. After that the brains were taken out at different time points after TBI.The cerebral edema and blood-brain barrier(BBB)changes in structure were examined with an optical micros-copy and transmission electron microscopy, and the IgG content in the same tissues were determined by means of immunohistochem-istry.The data was analyzed with SPSS 13.0 statistical software. Results There was no signal abnormality on MR-DWI and tissue structure in control group, and the IgG stain was negative. In the contralateral non-damaged areas of TBI group, pathological obser-vation revealed no variation at 1 h after TBI,and the IgG stain was also negative.Cellular edema was shown at 3 h and the IgG stain was slight positive. The cellular edema aggravated with time and angioedema appeared at 6 h.IgG stain was shown significantly posi-tive.At 12~24 h,cellular edema kept increasing more severe, however angioedema had a trend to mitigated along with time,IgG stain became slight and the proliferation of glial cells could observed.Compared with control group, the ADC values of the contralat-eral non-damaged areas in each group showed no significant difference (P >0.05).However,in the damaged areas of each group, angioedema appeared at 1 h and gradually aggravated, cellular edema occurred at 3 h,Both of them were aggravated with time. ADC values increased at 1 h,and then decreased until 6 h,then followed a climbing up to 24 h,showed as a “V”-shaped.Con-clusion When contused on one side brain, the contralateral non-inj ured side tissue also has pathological changes that occurs later than those on the inj ured side.Cellular edema of the tissues ap-peares first and is followed by angioedema, which lessens over time..There is no significant difference of ADC values between con-tralateral side of TBI groups and control group(P >0.05),which reveals a “pseudo-normal”phenomenon.
