1.Evaluate results of transcatheter patent ductus arteriosus closure using amplatzer duct occluders in children admitted into national hospital of pediatrics
Journal of Medical Research 2007;55(6):20-25
Background:Persistent ductus arteriosus is a common congenital cardiac disease. If it isn't diagnosed and treated on time, the patient will be suffered severe complication which can cause mortality. The surgery for ductus arteriosus closure is a treatment method which is being applied at many Surgery Center in our country. Objectives:This study aims to evaluate the results of transcatheter patent ductus arteriosus closure using amplatzer duct occluders in children admitted into national hospital of pediatrics. Subjects and method: A prospective study was carried out on 40 children with patent ductus arteriosus confirmed by echocardiography in National Hospital of Pediatrics from October 2005 to October 2006. Transcatheter closure by amplatzer was used in all patients. Changes in clinical, laboratory findings and particularly Echocardiography were obtained before and after treatment. Results: The mean age and weight of the patients were 44.86 \xb1 41.11 months and 12.44 \xb1 6.5 kg. Closure was successful in 38/40 patients (95%), complications occurred in one patient (2.5%), no death was occurred. The rate shunting was 15% after 1 day and 0% after 3 months. Conclusion: Transcatheter closure using the Amplatzer was an effective and safe treatment for patent ductus arteriosus in pediatric patients.

Journal of Medical Research 2007;55(6):1-5
Background:The progress of the cardiac intervention technique has been changed the doctors' viewpoint in the treatment for congenital cardiac. In the past years, treatment for congenital cardiac needed to surgery but nowadays, the cardiac intervention technique are being applied in many Cardiac Centers with very good results. This technique also helped to prevent the complication in cardiac operation. Objectives:This study aims to report the results for cardiac intervention in National Hospital of Pediatrics. Subjects and method:A prospective study was conducted on 298 children diagnosed with patent ductus arteriosus, atrial septal defect (ASD), ventricular septal defect, coarctation, pulmonary stenosis (PS), aortic stenosis (AS), small patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) infant with pulmonary atresia - ventricular septal defect (VSD) and Dextro- transposition of the great arteries (d- TGA) with intact ventricular septum at National hospital of Pediatric between June 2004and October 2006. Results: Transcatheter closure of PDA, ASD by Amplatzer or Coil was safe and effective. Critically ill children diagnosed with PS, AS and Coarctation may be saved by valvuloplasty and angioplasty procedures. Catheter interventions avoided the needs for surgery without scars. Catheter interventions had low complications. Conclusion: The hospitalized duration was short so the expenditures reduced.

Journal of Medical Research 2007;49(3):77-82
Background: Continuation of previous study of screening traditional medicinal plants with anti-diabetic effect, the hypoglycemic effect of glue extracted from Fructus Lycii which was named HPD was study. Objective: to investigate the hypoglycemic effect of HPD on diabetic mice caused by different doses of streptozocine. Subjects and methods: causing diabetes by streptozocine at difference doses was used to collect glucose intolerance mice, mild diabetic mice and severe diabetic mice. The effect of HPD p.o. at several doses was evaluated after 3 days of use. Results: By oral allocation with the dose of 500 and 1.000mg/kg body-weight for 3 days, HPD inhibited increasing blood glucose in streptozocine-induced glucose intolerance mice (intraperitoneal STZ 100 mg/kg). HPD 1000 mg/kg body weight had the potent hypoglycemic effect on streptozocine-induced diabetic mice, reverse the blood glucose self control ability of mild streptozicine-induced diabetic mice (STZ 120 mg/kg), meanwhile can not stop a hyperglycemic effect of high dose of STZ (STZ 180 mg/kg). Conclusion: HPD has the potent anti-hyperglycemic effect on streptozocine -induced diabetic rats. Anti-hyperglycemic of HPD is indirect under present of insulin\r\n', u'\r\n', u'\r\n', u'

Aims:
To isolate and characterize the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains from the “mam chua ca ro” (sour fermented fish) in the South of Vietnam and investigate their potential anti-bacterial properties.
Methodology and results:
Four LAB strains (MCR1, MCR2, MCR3 and MCR4) were isolated from the "mam chua ca ro" product and their anti-bacterial activity was determined using the spot assay and the paper disc diffusion method. The isolated LABs can inhibit Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Staphyloccocus aureus ATCC 25923 and Vibrio parahaemolyticus BV016 and produce bacteriocin to control the growth of E. coli ATCC 25922 and S. aureus ATCC 25923, except V. parahaemolyticus. MCR2 was chosen to sequence 16S rRNA of Pediococcus acidilactic.
Conclusion, significance and impact of study
On the basis of their prominent anti-pathogenic bacteria activity, LAB strains isolated from Vietnamese sour-fermented fish products were verified as prospective probiotics.
