Objective Peritoneal lymphatic features are studied to provide necessary data for understanding transport capabilities of the endothelial and mesothelial cells. Methods Enzyme\|histochemical staining methods were employed to investigate organization of the lymphatic networks and their endothelial ultrastructures in the monkey peritoneum using light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Results 5' Nase positive initial lymphatics showed extensive network, obvious valve like structures and numerous blind ends. The calibre of lymphatics with extremely irregular lumen varied greatly from 40 to 120?m.Lymphatic endothelium was usually separated from mesothelium by a small quantity of loose connective tissue,or they directly contacted each other in some areas. No basal lamina occurred between the peritoneum and the lymphatics originating from milky spots in the omentum and mesovarium.Milky spots are oval or round visible bodies aggregated by macrophages and lymphocytes. Both the endothelium of lymphatic lacunae and the mesothelium that forms the peritoneal stomata, represent a strong 5' Nase activity.Abundant microfibrils attached the stomatal edge. Conclusion The distribution and structure of peritoneal initial lymphatics reveal significant regional variations, and lymphatic endothelium has a close morphological and functional relationship with the mesothelium. We have determined the plasma 8-hydroxy-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels during endurance exercise. Eight untrained male subjects completed a 10-km run. Plasma 8-OHdG, total coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), ubiquinol, and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) concentrations were measured after exercise. Plasma 8-OHdG concentrations significantly decreased immediately after (0.21±0.13 ng/ml, p<0.01) and 1 hr after (0.23±0.09 ng/ml, p<0.05) the run compared to the resting values (0.36±0.09 ng/ml). Both plasma CoQ10 and ubiquinol concentrations significantly increased (p<0.05) immediately after the run compared to the resting values. On the other hand, plasma TBA concentrations did not change significantly at any point after the run. These results suggest that, during and after submaximal endurance exercise in this study, an augmented antioxidant defence system such as CoQ10 might thus play a role in the decrease of 8-OHdG in the plasma, and that exercise might stimulate the repair of oxidative damage to DNA.

Objective:
Glycemic control varies based on lifestyle factors and stress coping mechanisms, which are influenced by personality. The psychological factors associated with glycemic control have not yet been established in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The relationship between a 5-factor model of personality and glycemic control was evaluated in individuals with T2DM.
Methods:
The subjects were 503 Japanese outpatients with T2DM. Glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels, depressive status, insomnia and personality traits were assessed. Lifestyle factors of the patients, such as habitual alcohol consumption and smoking, were also included in the analyses.
Results:
Because the influence of insulin therapy on HbA1c is so strong, we stratified the patients according to insulin use. Simple regression analysis showed a significant correlation between HbA1c and neuroticism in patients who did not use insulin. After adjustment for confounders, multiple regression analyses revealed that none of the personality factors, including neuroticism, were found to be associated with HbA1c.
Conclusion
These findings suggest that personality traits do not have a large impact on glycemic control. Further studies are required to confirm the relationships between psychological factors and glycemic control using a longitudinal study design.
